Prompt: Something you think is art. For this, we'll allow Melissa's caption to explain: "Pinstripe in the sky created by a jet today. Reminds me that art creates different perspectives depending on how you look at it! My view is totally different from what that pilot sees!"
Journal spread prompted by assignment #2 over at Wreck This Journal -- I drew on the left-hand page with a white crayon, then blotted a tea-bag on the page a few times to give the page some color. Then, I drew/collaged on top of it. There's a secret picture drawn in crayon under there....can you see it?
i had a lot of fun with this prompt. but it also brought up some intense emotions and memories for me.
Biography:
With a BFA in Photography I spent many years behind the scenes working in photo-labs in Boston and San Francisco. Recent events have prompted class work at CCSF and a career change. But even as I look to the future, I will always be drawn to photography. This work was created at CCSF in the digital negatives class in the spring of 2012. A simple assignment struck in me a chord and allowed for lensless image creation. Moving beyond the camera, images were created via direct light exposure through flora found in and around San Francisco. The impermanent images were then scanned and cleaned up using photoshop. Outputting to a transparent negative the pictures were printed using traditional darkroom techniques onto silver-gelatin paper.
CCSF Photography and You:
Going back to school to update my job skills allowed me to take a couple of courses in the City College of San Francisco photo department in 2012. An advanced photoshop class heightened my photoshop skills and taught me how to make panoramic and HDR photographs. The digital negatives class encouraged experimentation, something I thoroughly enjoy. The classes reminded me what I used to enjoy about photography, that being the possibility of experimentation and the joy of creation both in and out of the darkroom. I’m glad that City College still provides those opportunities and I’m thankful for the reminder that there is always more one can learn.
It might not be Spring in every part of the world, but tomorrow it is officially Spring. I could not let that go by unnoticed.
Yesterday evening I was aware that the hedgehogs have awakened from their hibernation. Just before midnight I heard a sound of nibbling outside the kitchen door. A hedgehog had found its way to the leftovers of the cat kibble outside. It was a very recognizable sound and it awakened something inside of me too. Also this week the sun shone in abundance and I found these little ladybugs climbing out of their hiding places by the dozens.
Winter has officially left.
Thinking about what prompt I would give you I felt gifted by this sudden awareness of change of season. What I would like to do this week is look for subtle signs of spring. These subtle signs can be noticed by little creatures that have been awakened by the clock of spring or little sprouts emerging from the soil. Maybe there is still cold in the air, or snow on the ground, but maybe that is also accompanied by a scent that floats through the air, a scent or discovery that gives you a feeling of promise.
My linen jacket --first one is an outline and paint for detail: and the second one has more line work with color to define outline,texture,and tone. I could not have tackled this subject a few weeks ago - feels great! The version with more lines looks too harsh for my taste -- my cross hatching (for tone) looks like fur to me - and I think its because it reflects that I am uncomfortable with this style -- I just love to get to the painting part - and loose works well with my temperament.
