I was a Canon (fan)boy for quite a long time but I have never owned their manual focus FD line. That is, until now. :)
This little boy was oblivious of other library patrons, lost in his book. I like his casual attitude and love of reading.
The library sponsors a great summer reading program for children with perks, rewards and a club to be enrolled in.

The Fall 2010 Student Hackathon brought in hundreds of students from 30 universities to NYU's Courant Institute for 24 hours of creative hacking on New York City startups' APIs.
Selected startups presented their technologies at the beginning of the event, and students formed groups to brainstorm and begin coding on their ideas. Many students worked into the night, foregoing sleep to fulfill their visions.
On Sunday afternoon students presented their projects to an audience including a judging panel, which selected the final winners.
hackNY hosts hackathons one each semester, as well as a Summer Fellows Program, which pairs quantitative and computational students with startups which can demonstrate a strong mentoring environment, a problem for a student to work on, a person to mentor them, and a place for them to work. Startups selected to host a student are expected to compensate student Fellows. Students enjoy free housing together and a pedagogical lecture series to introduce them to the ins and outs of joining and founding a startup.

Community health workers (CHWs) with the Tingathe program prepare to ride their bicycles to patients’ homes in central Malawi. Since 2008, Tingathe CHWs have brought critical services for preventing mother-to-child transmission of HIV into the community, where they perform door-to-door HIV testing and counseling and support linkage to care for individuals with a new HIV diagnosis. Newly identified HIV-positive breastfeeding and pregnant women are supported by Tingathe CHWs at their homes and health facilities throughout pregnancy, breastfeeding, infant HIV testing, and successful initiation of antiretroviral therapy amongst HIV-positive infants. Tingathe—“we can” in the local Chichewa language—has provided care to over 17,000 HIV-positive patients in the last year and demonstrated a transmission rate as low as 4.1% is possible in a routine programmatic setting. By implementing a robust community-based approach to minimize vertical transmission of HIV—a route of infection still responsible for over 300,000 new infections every year—Tingathe mitigates the impact of the HIV/AIDS epidemic that has disproportionately affected impoverished communities globally.

By accident it seems that I have started a new initiative - a Mouse Relocation Program. At the same time I have invented, again by accident, a new "mouse friendly" mouse trap.
Twice this week a mouse has fallen into a plastic tub which sides are too high and too slippery for the mouse to escape.
Twice this week I have taken the mouse (should be mice) to a nearby scrub and let them go and they quickly scamper off to a new life and freedom.
Our goal is to help with the care and treatment of diabetes including diagnosing the symptoms. Being able to diagnose quickly is very important. We also aim to give the most useful information we can find, with as much help as possible..
