The seventh graders studied theoretical and experimental probability. The students conducted trials to determine whether two 2-player dice games were fair games (games in which each player has an equal probability of winning). Students identified the sample space in order to calculate the theoretical probabilities; the class then compiled its data in a shared Google Sheet and observed that the experimental probability approached the theoretical probability as the number of trials increased.
Introduction of Probability in 9th Grade When students come in 9th standard, they come into touch with one more branch of mathematics which is Statistics. All statistics solutions are based on predictions. This part of mathematics includes the predefined principles and formulas but none of them is able to generate the fixed answer. The output of them is only said to be a perfect guess but a guess is a random value which might change.

A warning sign about falling rocks. But, rains were more of a concern than the low probability of falling rocks in the distance.
How many topics in physics are contained in a simple rainbow produced on the wall (and toilet) by sun shining through a plastic privacy screen?
Well...the light from the sun is composed of many different wavelengths...the distribution of which is dependent on the temperature of the star - which ours is centered on the the yellow. When the the light encounters an optically dense medium (glass or plastic in this case), the light is absorbed by the molecules and passed from molecule to molecule, the probability of which an absorption and emission occurs is described by Feynman's QED. The principle of least action (from D'Alembert and Lagrangian mechanics) finds the maximum probability amplitude, and hence the interaction that occurs, or the direction the light is refracted. The path of light through the medium is dependent on the wavelength and frequency of the light. One can back up to PAM Dirac's relativistic quantum mechanics, ingeniously melded Schrodinger's wave equation and/or Heisenberg's Matrix mechanics with Einstein's relativity, which determined that the only certainty in the universe is the speed of light. Everything else including Newton's fixed stars and time...TIME itself are mutable to make the speed of light constant in every situation. Dirac faced with the actual energy of a particle being the square root of the rest mass and its motion, devised a Hamiltonian that required matricies, later interpreted by Pauli as spin states of particles. Schoedinger and Heisenberg following Bohr's amazing leap of quantized orbits to describe Plancks description of light as quanta....actually they were named by Einstein to describe the photoelectric effect....but Planck needed the quantized description of light to explain the ultraviolet disaster of Rayleigh. While the ladies cooked Paella the gentlemen calculated the odds at winning roulette, actually they spent all weekend doing this. Here they had even dug out the laptop to record their findings. I should mention they have math degrees. I had to document so that years later I can poke fun.
This final image is a composite of 6 separate shots, this one was tough because the sun was coming down real harsh, I sacrificed some detail in the chairs to capture the area left in shade.
At the Student Research Poster Session, students share their summer research projects with peers, highlighting the fascinating work that can be done at Lewis & Clark.

The universe is an infinite probability of the ability that life can exist outside the galazy of earth. THe ability for other planets to contain organisms capable of converting raw substances into oxygen-alternative elements and water-alternative elements are quite a provocative grasp of conception. What is the probability that life can exists on other planets? can man live on another planet...if so in what means is that necessary to allow accommodation for survival?

November 18, 2010 - "Roles for Third Parties in Improving Implementation of EPA's and OSHA's Regulations on the Management of Low-Probability, High-Consequence Process Safety Risks" - Penn Program on Regulation, in conjunction with the Wharton Risk Management Center, hosted a conference regarding the usage of third party auditors in the enforcement of regulatory safety measures in high risk industries. Industries which experts call "Low-Probability, High-Consequence," such as nuclear reactors, oil refineries, or chemical processing plants, are specifically hoped to be improved by third party inspections safety. The conference brought together numerous participants from a variety of fields, including from government, industry, insurance, academia, and non-profit sectors. The conference consisted of a day-long discussion spread over three separate panels. Over the course of the conference, participants stressed the importance of implementing a third party system to effectively and thoroughly audit industry despite lack of adequate funds and resources. Other potential scenarios offered for enacting effective third party auditing included making sure that these third party auditors were completely independent from the industries they would be inspecting so as to eliminate bias or a conflict of interest. Another issue to consider is the question of whose authority would the third party auditors be under and what kind of enforcement power would they have to enforce industry change. One of the panel discussions brought up the potential linkage of third party audits with insurance companies so as to provide an incentive for industry to decrease safety risks in order to pay lower insurance premiums. Workshop participants included Isadore "Irv" Rosenthal, a Senior Research Fellow at the Wharton Risk Management and Decision Processes Center; Howard Kunreuther, James G. Dinan Professor of Business and Public Policy at Wharton and Co-Director of the Wharton Risk Center; Laurie Miller, Senior Director of Environment and Process Safety at the American Chemistry Council; Erwann O. Michel-Kerjan, Managing Director of the Wharton Risk Management and Decision Processes Center; Scott Berger, Executive Director of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers; Don Nguyen, a Principal Process Safety Management Engineer at Siemens Energy, Inc.; Mike Marshall, Process Safety Management Coordinator at the Directorate of Enforcement Programs at the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) within the United States Department of Labor; Cary Coglianese, Edward B. Shils Professor of Law and Professor of Political Science at the University of Pennsylvania Law School and Director of the Penn Program on Regulation; Bob Whitmore, Former Chief of OSHA Division of Recordkeeping at the United States Department of Labor; Jim Belke, Chemical Engineer at the Office of Emergency Prevention and Member of the Office of Chemical Preparedness within the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA); William Doerr, FM Global Research Area Director; Manuel Gomez, Director of Recommendations at the U.S. Chemical Safety Board; Tim Cillessen, Manager of Sales and Marketing at Siemens Energy, Inc.; Mike Wright, Director of Health, Safety, and Environment at United Steelworkers; Jennifer Nash, Affiliated Researcher of Nanotechnology and Society Research Group at Northeastern University and the Associate Director of the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government, Executive Director of Regulatory Policy Program at Harvard Kennedy School of Government; Michael Perron, Senior Vice President of Willis Re New York.

While we have the probability of spotting several other grosbeak species up here, this is, by far, the more common. It's an adult female. Both sexes make daily multiple appearances at our created bird oasis.

Female Hummingbird IDs can be quite iffy. The other probabilities of similar species here are the Black-chinned and Costa's. Anna's has a straight, short bill and white supercilium. Its tail is reported to project beyond the wing tips but you need the ideal perspective of a perched bird to determine this. I also base my ID selection on the straight bill shape, but other local Hummers have similar bills. The blooms on which the Hummer is accessing are those of Parry's Penstemon, an early blooming native flower that seems to be the current choice of several birds and insects that thrive on nectar.

Made with Image Creator from Microsoft Designer, formerly known as the Bing Image Creator. Powered by DALL·E 3.
I think that AI image generation is similar in many ways to photography. The camera itself handles all the fine details, but the photographer is in charge of curating the types of images that will be created.
Ultimately, it is all about maximizing the probability that something good will be created.
This is very similar to AI image generation, in terms of the skills involved and what the human does vs. what the machine does.
You can't compare AI image generation to the process of actually making these images from scratch with 3D software or paint/pencils, where the human controls every detail.
However, I think the process really is very similar to that of photography, as I made the case for above. I think that DALL-E 3 is by far the most powerful AI image generation tool currently available.

A random graph of n nodes may be constructed by adding each possible link with a given probability p. The obtained graph then has density p.
One may roughly model traceroute measurements of the internet topology from one monitor as the collection of all shortest paths from this monitor to all other nodes in a graph, which we call an exploration of the graph.
Then, one obtains all the links which belong to a shortest path from the monitor to any other node; in other words, the only missing links are the ones between two nodes at the same distance from the monitor.
The number of such links higly depends on the density of the graph. If the graph is a tree (and thus its density is very low) then all links belong to a shortest path, and its exploration will show 100% of the links; if the graph is a clique (and thus has the maximal density, 1), then only n links are on a shortest path, and thus the exploration will miss many links ((n-1)(n-2)/2 precisely, i.e. almost all of them if n is large).
The plot gives the proportion of links discovered during the exploration of a random graph as a function of its density. It has several non-trivial peaks, and has been called camel plot for this reason. It shows that the exploration process has a very complex behavior which depends strongly on the density, but has no direct relation with it.
