Greetings mate! I love voyaging forth to Zion National Park to contemplate poetry, physics, the golden ratio, and the Tao te Ching! What's your favorite epic poetry reflecting epic landscapes? I recently finished a book titled Epic Poetry for Epic Landscape Photographers:

www.facebook.com/Epic-Poetry-for-Epic-Landscape-Photograp...

Did you know that John Muir, Thoreau, and Emerson all loved epic poetry and poets including Shakespeare, Milton, Homer, and Robert Burns?

How inspiring the grandeur of Zion is! It reminds us of those entities greater than ourselves, such as Homer's Iliad and Odyssey and Light Time Dimension Theory!

I recently finished my fourth book on Light Time Dimension Theory, much of which was inspired by an autumn trip to Zion!

www.facebook.com/lightimedimensiontheory/

Via its simple principle of a fourth expanding dimension, LTD Theory provides a unifying, foundational *physical* model underlying relativity, quantum mechanics, time and all its arrows and asymmetries, and the second law of thermodynamics. The detailed diagrams demonstrate that the great mysteries of quantum mechanical nonlocality, entanglement, and probability naturally arise from the very same principle that fosters relativity alongside light's constant velocity, the equivalence of mass and energy, and time dilation.

I used to HATE this spoon when I was growing up. Although I know probability surely dictated otherwise, it seemed like the utensil always got placed at my table setting. The scraped portion (caused by falling down into the spinning post at the bottom of the dishwasher) feels super weird in your mouth when you take a bite of food with it.

But those are childhood memories. Today, I love this spoon because of my childhood experience with it—especially since it once again ended up at my place setting tonight.

LR-7569 - A candid trio from the round the island race back on 1st June. My random probability nero device came up with a single title and after vetting thought it might need changing to something more appropriate, so Queen's Fat Bottom Girls (listen) was moved down the ranking. On the gentler side the Moments & Whatnauts Girls got to the number three position.

Anyways at eight minutes past seven in the morning the title wasn't even thought of until a bit later in the day. Hello Sailor was added at the last moment:)

Pretty sure they knew the person on a boat 1/2 a mile away and after a few minutes so did the other hundred plus people at Fort Albert on that morning, but which boat they are in was a different matter!

If you would like to see some more of this event click me to view the set which contains shots of boats and sails etc

If you don't feel safe looking at this then take me to the chickens

Kalenderhane Mosque (Turkish: Kalenderhane Camii) is a former Eastern Orthodox church converted into a mosque by the Ottomans. With high probability the church was originally dedicated to the Theotokos Kyriotissa. This building represents one among the few still extant examples of a Byzantine church with domed Greek cross plan.

The mosque is placed in Istanbul, in the district of Fatih, in the picturesque neighbourhood of Vefa, and lies immediately to the south of the easternmost extant section of the aqueduct of Valens, and less than one km to the southeast of the Vefa Kilise Mosque.

The first building on this site was a Roman bath, followed by a sixth-century (the dating was based on precise coin finds in stratigraphic excavation) hall church with an apse laying up against the Aqueduct of Valens. Later – possibly in the seventh century – a much larger church was built to the south of the first church. A third church, which reused the sanctuary and the apse (later destroyed by the Ottomans) of the second one, can be dated to the end of the twelfth century, during the late Comnenian period. The church was surrounded by monastery buildings, which disappeared totally during the Ottoman period. After the Latin conquest of Constantinople, the building was used by the Crusaders as a Roman Catholic church, and partly officiated by Franciscan clergy.

After the conquest of Constantinople in 1453, the church was assigned personally by Mehmed II to the Kalenderi sect of the Dervish. The Dervishes used it as a zaviye and imaret (public kitchen), and the building has been known since as Kalenderhane (Turkish: "The house of the Kalenderi"). The Waqf (foundation) was endowed with several properties in Thrace, and many hamams in Istanbul and Galata. Some years later, Arpa Emini Mustafa Efendi built a Mektep (school) and a Medrese.

In 1746 Hacı Beşir Ağa (d. 1747), the Kizlar Ağası of the imperial palace, built a Mihrab, Minbar and Mahfil, converting the building into a mosque. Ravaged by fire and damaged by earthquakes, the mosque was restored in 1855 and again between 1880 and 1890. It was abandoned in the 1930s, after the collapse of the minaret due to lightning, and the demolition of the Medrese.

The conservation of the building dates from the 1970s, when it was extensively restored and studied in a ten-year effort by Cecil L. Striker and Doğan Kuban, who restored its twelfth century condition. Moreover, the minaret and the mihrab were rebuilt, which allowed the mosque to reopen for worship.

The restoration also provided a solution to the problem of the dedication of the church: while before it was thought that the church was named after Theotokos tēs Diakonissēs ("Virgin of the Deaconesses") or Christos ho Akatalēptos ("Christ the Inconceivable"), the discovery of a donor fresco in the southeastern chapel and of another fresco over the main entrance to the narthex both bearing the word "Kyriotissa" (Greek for Enthroned), makes highly probable that the church was dedicated to the Theotokos Kyriotissa.

The building, whose masonry consists of brick and stone, features a central Greek Cross plan, and is surmounted by a dome. An esonarthex and an exonarthex (added much later) in the west side, and a sanctuary (where was placed the reconstructed mihrab) in the east side belong to it too. An upper gallery over the esonarthex, following the same plan of the one existing in the Church of the Pantokrator, has been removed in 1854. Also the north and south aisles along the nave were destroyed, possibly during the nineteenth century too. The tall triple arches connecting the aisles with the nave are now the lower windows of the church.

In Kalenderhane are present also the two small chapels named prothesis and diakonikon, typical of the Byzantine churches of the middle and late period. The decoration of the church, consisting of beautiful colored marble panels and moldings, and of elaborated icon frames, is largely still extant.

The building possessed also two features which both represent an unicum in Istanbul: a mosaic, one meter square, representing the "Presentation of Christ", which is the only pre-iconoclastic exemplar of religious subject surviving in the city, and a cycle of frescoes of the thirteenth century (found in a chapel at the southeast corner of the building, and painted during the Latin domination) portraying the life of Saint Francis of Assisi. This is the oldest known representation of the Saint. Both have now been detached and partially restored, and can be seen in the Archaeological Museum of Istanbul.

As a whole, the mosque of Kalenderhane represents – together with the Gül Mosque in Istanbul, the Church of Hagia Sophia in Thessaloniki and the church of the Dormition (Koimesis) in Iznik, one of the main architectural examples of a domed Greek cross church from the Byzantine middle period.

Probability help in statistical analysis Friends, mathematics is a very vast subject which plays an important role in our daily work starting from buying goods to cooking. It is like playing game, which requires a lot of practice and hard work to succeed and become best in it. Similarly Probability is also a very important topic which plays an important role not just in maths but also in different areas of study like Physics, Chemistry, statistical analysis etc. Starting from tossing a coin to the population calculation probability plays a major role.

Our Constitution Article 40.3.3 states

"If it were established, as a matter of probability, that there was a real and substantial risk to the life, as distinct from the health, of the mother and that this real and substantial risk could only be averted by the termination of her pregnancy, such a termination was lawful." (emphasis added).

However our Governments over 20 years have failed to enact the legislation required to allow for the above Act to be enshrined in LAW Shame on them all. Who are they afraid of. Pro lifers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, it's cloudy and there's a probability of rain, and...

8 1/4 x 10 in. double-page Moleskine cahier spread; watercolor, ink, whatever on paper.

I won’t hazard a guess as to their identification beyond the genus Morchella (the true morels). While probability alone says they are Yellow Morels (M. esculentoides), the most widely distributed morel in the Great Lakes area; they could also be M. cryptica, which is virtually identical to esculentoides, overlaps it broadly in range, and is found in virtually the same habitats; or maybe they're M. americana, described as new in 2012 strictly on the basis of DNA, and which may actually be synonymous with M. esculentoides.

These beauties appeared in the front yard less than 48 hours after we had received 1.36 inches (3.4 cm) of rain and just 72 hours after the yard had been buried in 2 inches (5 cm) of wet snow.

Tarin Perian frowns as she starts to scroll through the numbers. This...looks really strange. She starts mapping them, listing them to probable locations....

**

Tarin Perian: **private com to Coage & Netizen**

Simon Netizen: *C* What's up?

Tarin Perian: Um...I got a match on that print. 98% probability.

Jonathon Coage: *C* Who?

Simon Netizen: ((Simon remains silent))

Tarin Perian: And..um...most of these calls....are off-island. And the timing is...strange. I'm still mapping that. " Yeah, she's wary about saying who it is.

Jonathon Coage: Tarin *who* matches it?

Simon Netizen: Wait...what calls?

Tarin Perian offers quietly, voice muffled. "Roma, Dad..."

Simon Netizen's slow exhale is heard through the comms

Jonathon Coage mutters "AH fuck. Simon, Roma left her phone out last night. I picked it up and checked the call log to see whose it was and found all sorts of weird calls. This clinches it. FUCK."

Tarin Perian: "An hour before...and an hour after the shooting...relays. Disposables, probably, but bounced all over hell and creation...off island. Every single one..."

Simon Netizen replies quietly. "I'll tell Parx."

Jonathon Coage: "Simon...she's in there with Tarin..."

Tarin Perian: "Dad...I'm armed."

Tarin Perian: "And she's upstairs. I'm not worried."

Simon Netizen: "If she doesn't know YOU know anything she'll be cool."

Tarin Perian: "Exactly." She pauses. 'Okay..going..she's incoming..." *click*

:: [Blackstar] Roaman Enzo: People watch the apartments that would be a good place for a big boom

:: [Blackstar] Johnathon Parx: This is parx, Taking myself and Simon into the Park, Figured a moonlight stroll and a lovely walk through the park tonight'll help.

Tarin Perian mutters. "Want pictures.."

:: [Blackstar] CaptainJenna Gravois: Better let those Rangers know you're on their turf or they'll have puppies.

:: [Blackstar] Simon Netizen: North half of the park is clear. Found a bunch of other interestin' shit though.

:: [Blackstar] Roaman Enzo: like what

:: [Blackstar] CaptainJenna Gravois: sighed into her ear bud, "Anything yet guys? Times runnin' short here.

:: [Blackstar] Johnathon Parx: Pauses and swears loudly, three different languages, German, Dutch and French rattled off, "Mein Gott verdammen, verdomme fils de pute!! Foudn the third bomb - it's in a fountain here at the Park.

Roma Paule wanders downstairs, looking for Tarin. She spots her in the control room and takes a steadying breath. She raps on the glass with her knuckles before sticking her head in. "Hiya...sorta...bored. Anythin' I can help ya with?"

Tarin Perian sits at the coms and glances up, the cup near her almost empty. She looks a little jittery and gives Roma a forced smile. "Heya. Bout time for more coffee?"

Roma Paule shrugs. "I'm good...don't drink it much." She looks around, pretending not to care mucha bout the screens. "Wow, this is some room..."

Tarin Perian slaps the control panel and closes down the side screen on the fingerprint match, but not probably before the flashing 98% Match was seen. "Yeah..and so far, only a couple of us know how to make it dance. Guess I'm lucky I don't have to crawl through the sewers tonight."

Roma Paule giggles and continues to wander the room. The flashing number had caught her eye, but she isn't reacting to it. She stops just behind Tarin, and leans over her shoulder a little, as if suddenly curious about her screen. "Whacha been doin?"

Tarin Perian types a few things and sets the screen scrolling again. "Oh, trying to match data streams. The stuff on the left is relay towers, the stuff on the right is the grid map. Maybe a way to block the electronic signal if the bomb is found."

Roma Paule blinks a few times, and while in truth she understands exactly what's going on, she keeps up the ditzy facade. "Wow, I think my head'd just explode if I had to look at that all day."

Tarin Perian chuckles and shakes her head. "Naw. It's like a video game. You type this here...." she types a few words "...and send it here..." and she types over to the other side. "And it shows up on that screen over there.." she frowns. "Or it should..."

***

Tarin Perian: **ic message** She's over my shoulder. I hid the data proof in the..../message cut off and sent abruptly.

Johnathon Parx was eerily calm. Letting a cold, slow mounting fury start to raise. He'd shift and start moving the blue wire. "Moving the Blue wire." He'd flick hsi head back as if trying to shoo off a fly, linking up to the data, He'd caught a message and he was decoding it, he wanted to know what the fuck Tarin had meant in her message.

***

:: [Blackstar] Simon Netizen: Support staff return to the bunker, immediately please.

Roma Paule leans in even further, and brings her left hand to hover just behind Tarin's head. She reaches in with her right to point at something on the screen. "What's this mean...righ' here?" With the last word, she leans in further, and slams her left hand toward the back of Tarin's head, attempting to smash her face into the desktop.

Esha Rajal entered the bunker grumbling at her stupid comms unit and it being ineffective, as she hadn't even received -any- messages, including the one about the bomb being located.

Leigh Parx (Kayleigh Jigsaw) skidded to a stop once they were inside. Amazing how fast the kid still moved even in full body armor. "Esha you ain't leavin here either. Got the orders from Daddy."

Tarin Perian 's head bounces off the desk , nose first, blood streaming. She fumbles for her gun and chokes. "Dammit..."

Roma Paule moves to wrap her left arm around Tarins' throat and her right hand tries for Tarin's right to thwart her move for the gun. "Don't think so, sweetie," she whispers against Tarin's hair.

Tarin Perian is -so- going to demand hand to hand combat lessons after this. She wheezes a breath, hands clawing at the arm around her throat before she goes limp in the chair, nose bleeding down her chin and onto her shirt.

Spanning more than a football field at 306 feet (~100m), Landscape Arch got much thinner in 1991 when a big chunk from the right fell. The path to the arch has since closed. The probability of Landscape Arch collapsing before any of the others seems quite high.

I made this ID based mainly on the head features. The other juvie probability up here (Broad-tailed) does not have as much dark feathering behind its bill. Both of these female species have some red wash.... this one typically has more.

Part of the Church of Ireland (Anglican) Diocese of Derry and Raphoe, belonging to the Castlerock (Christchurch), Dunboe (St Paul's) and Fermoyle (Church of the Ascension) grouping.

The Church of St. Paul is situated in Articlave, which is about one mile to the east of Castlerock.

Within the parish and within walking distance from Castlerock are the beautiful grounds and walks around Downhill Castle and the Mussenden Temple. Downhill Castle is famous, for the Earl of Bristol who was then bishop of Derry built it.

St Paul’s Church was built to replace the ruin at Downhill. It is generally believed that Articlave village was the first settlement on the Clothworker Company Estate in 1611 and that the site was in all probability selected on account of the nearby river. When the ecclesiastical authorities had to consider the necessity of providing a new church for the parish it was natural that they should select the most advantageous position. A certain Captain Jackson gave a grant of one acre of land, and on this land the church was built. Bishop Hopkins gave the consent for the building of this church and Bishop King consecrated it on June 2nd, 1691.

Another notable day in the history of St. Paul’s is June 24th, 1848. On that day within these walls five young men stood before the Bishop to be admitted to the Order of the Priesthood. One of the five was destined to occupy in later years, the highest position in the Church of Ireland. Here William Alexander received his sacred commission as Priest. William Alexander was then a curate attached to Derry Cathedral. In 1867 he was consecrated Bishop of Derry and Raphoe and in 1896 became Primate of all Ireland. In 1850 he married the talented Miss Cecil Frances Humphreys in the old Parish Church of Strabane. Mrs Alexander was a hymn writer of world wide reputation and her hymn (one of many) “There is a green hill far away” is amongst the best known hymns in the Christian world today.

St. Paul’s Church was built in very troubled times and consequently the structure is of a plain and very simple type. The square tower at the West end is imposing and well proportioned and on the South wall near the door the attention of visitors is attracted by a sundial of blue slate. It bears the date 1823, with this suggestive inscription: ‘Tis greatly wise to talk with our past hours, and ask them what report they bore to heav’n.’

As we linger at St. Paul’s Church, we remember that here for over 300 years God has been worshipped and the glad tidings of the Gospel have been preached. The members of the Church of Ireland today in the district of Articlave love their Church with all its hallowed associations. In 1991 the Church was refurbished at considerable cost to commemorate its tercentenary. May it long continue to be a source of Spiritual blessing.

Dunboe or Drumboe (description from Lewis's Topographical Dictionary of Ireland, 1837)

DUNBOE, or DRUMBOE, a parish, in the barony of COLERAINE, county of LONDONDERRY, and province of ULSTER, 5 miles (w. by N.) from Coleraine ; containing 5018 inhabitants.

This appears to have been a very important district from an early period, for, even in the 5th century, we find it mentioned under the name of Le Bendrigi, which seems to have comprised the northern parts of the present barony of Coleraine ; and it is stated that St. Patrick founded the old church here. The parish comprises, according to the Ordnance survey, 14,811 ¼ statute acres, of which 14,576 are applotted under the tithe act, and valued at £5796 per ann. On the south and west it is composed of basaltic mountains, which afford good pasturage, and on the opposite sides it is washed by the ocean and the river Bann, towards which latter the surface gradually descends, and the sands at its mouth formed the most extensive rabbit warrens in the kingdom, until the decline in the price of the fur, when the warrens were mostly destroyed, and the land brought into cultivation. Numerous streams descend from the mountains, fertilizing the meadows through which they pass. Near Articlave and Downhill the land is good and under an excellent system of cultivation.

Downhill, the splendid residence of Sir Jas. R. Bruce, Bart., occupies an elevated point of land between the (rivers) Bann and Foyle, opening in full view on the Atlantic ocean; was erected by the late Earl of Bristol, Bishop of Derry, and is built in the Italian style, of hewn freestone; the pilasters are extremely chaste and beautiful, the interior is finished in the most costly manner, the saloons being adorned with marble statues, and the halls and galleries with statuary and paintings of the most celebrated ancient and modern masters. In the glens, the plantations are extensive, beautifully laid out, and ornamented with rustic buildings and bridges, On the lawn stands a unique and beautiful mausoleum, erected by the bishop to the memory of his brother, who was ambassador to the court of Spain, exhibiting a full-length statue of him, beneath an elevated canopy.

The living is a rectory, forming the corps of the archdeaconry of Derry, and in the patronage of the Bishop : the tithes amount to £480, The glebe-house is a commodious residence, occupied by the Rev, Archdeacon Monsell ; there are four glebes, containing together 550 statute acres, 382 of which are cultivated land, the remainder being hilly and affording good pasturage for cattle, The church is a large and handsome edifice, situated at Articlave, for the repair of which the Ecclesiastical Commissioners have recently granted £230 ; it was erected on a new site in 1691, the old church having been destroyed by King James's army, on its retreat from Derry.

In the Roman Catholic divisions the parish forms part of the union of Killowen. (Note: Parts of this R.C. district were also inculded in the parish of Tamlaghtard or Magilligan according to the article on that parish and not mentioned in the article on Dunboe)

In the village of Articlave is a meeting-house for Presbyterians, in connection with the Synod of Ulster, and at Ballinrees is one in connection with the Seceding Synod, both of the second class

The parochial schools, situated at Articlave, are supported by the archdeacon; there are also schools at Downhill, built by Sir J. R. Bruce, and supported by him and Lady Bruce. Schools are maintained in other parts of the parish, together affording instruction to more than 500 children, There are also two private and eight Sunday schools.

The parish belongs partly to Sir J. R. Bruce, and partly to the Clothworkers' Company; the latter contribute £15 per ann, to the poor on their own estate. Not far from Downhill are the ruins of the ancient abbey of Duncruthin, which became the parish church previously to 1291 and in the western part of the parish stands a great fort, called the Giant's Sconce, occupying the summit of a lofty isolated hill of basalt, strongly fortified by nature.

Did you know that John Muir, Thoreau, and Emerson all loved epic poetry and poets including Shakespeare, Milton, Homer, and Robert Burns?

I recently finished my fourth book on Light Time Dimension Theory, much of which was inspired by an autumn trip to Zion!

Probability is a part of mathematics is related with the random phenomenon. Probability Calculator is an online tool to find probability of a given situation or problem. It makes calculation easy and fun. If number of possible outcomes and number of event is given then it can easily find the probability.

Gladstone Gander is a character created by Carl Barks, first used in the story "Wintertime Wager" in Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #88 (January, 1948). He is a lazy and infuriatingly lucky goose who never fails to upset his first cousin, Donald Duck. Gladstone's luck defies probability and provides him with anything he desires, with hardly the need of effort. As Disney comics writer Don Rosa has commented on the character: "Gladstone is unwilling to make the slightest effort to gain something that his luck cannot give him, and, when things go wrong, he resigns immediately, certain that around the next corner a wallet, dropped by a passer-by, will be waiting for him". For all his luck Gladstone has no achievements to be proud of and no true ambitions, as he is incapable of long-term planning. All of this is in stark contrast to his relative Scrooge McDuck, who is also capable of taking advantage of opportunities but works hard to create situations favorable for him, is strongly motivated by his ambitions and takes pride in forming his fortune by his own efforts.

He is a rival of Donald for the love of Donald's girlfriend Daisy Duck. Gladstone is also considered among the prime candidates for Scrooge McDuck's succession. For all of these reasons, he and Donald have formed an intense rivalry with each other. Gladstone's arrogance and outrageous luck, combined with Donald's own ego and belief he can still best him despite all odds---or as Don Rosa's version of Scrooge comments, "Donald's eternal tendency towards self-destruction" have set the stage for many stories featuring the two cousins' confrontations.

Barks gradually developed Gladstone's personality and at first used him frequently—in 24 stories between 1948 and 1953, the first five years of his existence. Gladstone's luck evolved slowly. In his first three appearances in 1948 ("Wintertime Wager", "Gladstone Returns", "Links Hijinks"), he was portrayed as the mirror image of Donald: an obstinate braggart, perhaps just a little bit more arrogant. In his next two appearances, "Rival Beachcombers" and "The Goldilocks Gambit", Gladstone is portrayed as merely lazy and irritable, and also gullible. The breakthrough of his lucky streak occurs in December 1949, and the long adventure story "Luck of the North". His and Donald's rivalry over Daisy is established in "Donald's Love Letters" (1949), "Wild About Flowers" (1950), and "Knightly Rivals" (1951), and as potential heirs to Scrooge's fortune in "Some Heir Over the Rainbow" (1953). After that, Barks felt unable to develop the character further, finding him basically unsympathetic, and began using him less frequently. But by then, Gladstone had found a steady place in the Duck universe. He was first used by a different Duck comic artist in 1951: "Presents For All" by Del Connell and Bob Moore.

His exact relation to the Duck Family Tree is somewhat uncertain. In Carl Barks' original version of the family tree from the 1950s, Gladstone was the son of Luke the Goose and Daphne Duck, who died by overeating at a free-lunch picnic. He was later adopted by Matilda McDuck and Goosetave Gander. Later, Barks is reported to have done away with the adoption, which was never featured in any story. (Of course, no stories denying the event were published.) In a more recent version of the family tree created by Don Rosa, Daphne Duck (Donald's paternal aunt) married Goosetave Gander and the two were Gladstone's parents. This is consistent with what Gladstone says in "Race to the South Seas": "Scrooge McDuck is my mother's brother's brother-in-law". Don Rosa's stories follow this viewpoint; in "The Sign of the Triple Distelfink" (first published on February 4, 1997), he added the fact that Gladstone was born on the day of Daphne's birthday on 1920, under the protection sign of the Triple Distelfink, thus inheriting his mother's luck.

Outside of comics, Gladstone appeared in several episodes of DuckTales, where he was voiced by Rob Paulsen. In the episode "Dime Enough for Luck", Gladstone is an unwitting stooge for Magica De Spell in one of her attempts to steal Scrooge's Number One Dime. He returns in the episode "Dr. Jekyll & Mr. McDuck", where he accidentally bids on an item that turns out to be valuable. This inspires Scrooge to bid on the next item—a trunk containing Dr. Jekyll's formula—which sets the plot in motion. He also makes non-speaking cameo appearances in the episodes "Sweet Duck of Youth" and "Till Nephews Do Us Part", as well in the House of Mouse episode "Goofy For A Day". Gladstone also appears in the video game Donald Duck: Goin' Quackers!in his traditional role of Donald's rival for Daisy's affection.

How many topics in physics are contained in a simple rainbow produced on the wall (and toilet) by sun shining through a plastic privacy screen?

Well...the light from the sun is composed of many different wavelengths...the distribution of which is dependent on the temperature of the star - which ours is centered on the the yellow. When the the light encounters an optically dense medium (glass or plastic in this case), the light is absorbed by the molecules and passed from molecule to molecule, the probability of which an absorption and emission occurs is described by Feynman's QED. The principle of least action (from D'Alembert and Lagrangian mechanics) finds the maximum probability amplitude, and hence the interaction that occurs, or the direction the light is refracted. The path of light through the medium is dependent on the wavelength and frequency of the light. One can back up to PAM Dirac's relativistic quantum mechanics, ingeniously melded Schrodinger's wave equation and/or Heisenberg's Matrix mechanics with Einstein's relativity, which determined that the only certainty in the universe is the speed of light. Everything else including Newton's fixed stars and time...TIME itself are mutable to make the speed of light constant in every situation. Dirac faced with the actual energy of a particle being the square root of the rest mass and its motion, devised a Hamiltonian that required matricies, later interpreted by Pauli as spin states of particles. Schoedinger and Heisenberg following Bohr's amazing leap of quantized orbits to describe Plancks description of light as quanta....actually they were named by Einstein to describe the photoelectric effect....but Planck needed the quantized description of light to explain the ultraviolet disaster of Rayleigh. Planck was working for the electric company to maximize the light output of municipal utilities at the least cost.... TBC

The Epic Seascape! Malibu Sea Caves!

Landscape photography is not only about traveling through space, but it is also about traveling through time. One may return to the same beach time and again throughout the seasons to find a million different universes, changing in an infinitude of manners with each passing wave.

Not only do we voyage outwardly to get the shot, but we travel even further inwardly. While I spend my year trekking along the John Muir Trail, and on through Zion, Yosemite, the Grand Canyon, Death Valley, and the Colorado Plateau, my heart always finds its home in these Malibu sea caves, where I have stood in awe during all hours of the day and night.

Included within are a few shots that only I have so far captured, including a miraculous winter solstice sunrise.

Best wishes throughout the coming year!

Old Pine Street Church, Third Scots and Mariners Presbyterian, 1768

(Remodelled 1790's, 1837 and 1857)

412 Pine St, Philadelphia, PA

Robert Smith (1768), John Fraser (1857)

Old Pine's colonial architecture is with us today — hidden from view by facade changes made in the 1790's, 1837 and 1857. The 1768 church stands on its original foundation, retains its original brick walls (stuccoed and modified with different openings), and above it all is the original cedar shake roof (now encased in the attic below a steeper pitched metal clad roof).

Two years passed before architect Robert Smith was hired. He was a member of the prestigious Carpenter Company and had already designed churches for Second Presbyterian, St. Peter’s and St. Paul’s churches. For a new Third Church, Smith designed an 80' x 60' building on a north-south axis. Walls on the north, south and east sides had two levels of rounded arch windows. Entrance to the church was a centered pedimented door on the east wall connecting to a gravel path through the graveyard to Fourth Street.

By 1835, the church had growing pains. The only practical solution was to horizontally bisect the large, single room sanctuary and create two levels. Worship orientation was switched from east-west to north-south. An extension at the midpoint of the south wall created space for the new pulpit. A new primary entrance was added to the Pine Street facade. Palladian windows above the centered entrance provided much needed light for two opposing interior curved staircases with open side rails. In all probability, additional window openings were created on the west wall. The exterior facade was uniformly stuccoed.

In the 1850's space again became a problem. This time there was a need for additional galleries, Sunday School and meeting rooms as well as office space. A decision was made to take the "unsightly and unattractive building and transform it into a beautiful and classic temple—uniting venerated antiquities with demands for modern taste." To accomplish this, the church hired noted Scottish-born e'migre' architect, John Fraser.
