This exhibition addresses issues of online privacy and digital surveillance. Next to several historical examples of encrypting, ‘Design my Privacy’ also shows some surprising contemporary strategies by more than 35 young designers and artists to maintain control over our data.

Earth Designs Garden Design and Build were asked to created a landscape and propose garden design in Walthamstow, London*. Here are the details of the project
The Mosaic Garden in Walthamstow, London E17
BRIEF:
This small garden was a completely blank canvas – an unappealing patch of concrete with a small, overgrown area of lawn in one corner. Surrounded by other gardens on all sides, the space benefited from high, rendered block walls, giving it a strong sense of privacy and providing a secluded environment that allowed for a variety of planting possibilities.
SOLUTION:
Taking inspiration from Anton Gaudi’s Parc Guell in Barcelona, this garden features curved and undulating raised beds that flow organically around the space. Intricately adorned with colourful hand-laid mosaic patterns, these beds slope gently upwards from their lowest point in the left hand corner. The centre of the space features a kidney shaped area of artificial turf (chosen to withstand the attentions of the household dog) edged with a variety of earth toned tiles and surrounded by a hard flooring comprising a mixture of decorative pea shingle and plum coloured paddlestones in black dyed concrete.
The entertaining possibilities of the garden are enhanced by the integration of a free standing hot tub in the top left of the space, and curved fixed-bench seating in the top right corner. The seating area benefits from a bespoke kidney shaped wooden table with built in patio heater, allowing ample space for summertime alfresco dining.
The high block walls are adorned with mosaic panels in a chequerboard pattern, each panel individually designed and hand laid. Added privacy to the space is provided by rusted steel trellis set into the top of the walls, through which a variety of vines and creepers are trained. The boundaries are given extra embellishment with the inclusion of an assortment of wall-mounted sculpture, lanterns, planters and other ephemera.

I am thrilled that these two have each other. Both thrive on intimacy and affection. Best bed buddies. They share the catbed on top of the manschest just about every afternoon. Here they are cuddling on the couch while I sat on the floor working on the computer. Yes, on the floor. Well, the couch was crowded. . . Raven and Gumbo were there as well, and I didn't want to disturb them. The room was dark, but I turned on the lamp to take the photo. Couldn't resist. Doesn't it feel like we are invading a private moment? Am I being scolded?

Taormina is a comune and small town on the east coast of the island of Sicily, Italy, in the Province of Messina, about midway between Messina and Catania. Taormina has been a very popular tourist destination since the 19th century. It has popular beaches (accessible via an aerial tramway) on the Ionian sea, which is remarkably warm and has a high salt content. Taormina can be reached via highways from Messina from the north and Catania .Just south of Taormina is the Isola Bella, a nature reserve. Tours of the Capo Sant' Andrea grottos are also available. Dopo aver attestato l'esistenza di una sede di siculi ( antichi abitanti dell'isola, detti anche sicani) presso Taormina, per certo vi passarono e vi lasciarono le loro tracce I Greci, i Romani, i Saraceni, dunque gli Arabi, i Bizantini ,I Normanni , Gli Aragonesi , e per ultimi i Borboni.Un soggiorno a Taormina non è semplicemente una vacanza al mare. Questi luoghi, pregni di storia e di fascino, chiedono infatti di essere vissuti con uno spirito diverso da quello comune e la ragione è semplice: qui tutto è fuori dall'ordinario.Ogni pietra reca in sé una storia millenaria, il mare meraviglioso su cui Taormina riflette tutta la sua bellezza, condiziona e scandisce lo scorrere del tempo ed i luoghi che furono l'incanto dei greci trasmettono tutt'oggi un'atmosfera vibrante di emozioni. Ma tentare di descrivere con le parole ciò che rende unica Taormina è davvero difficile.
