Ever wonder about the thin line of difference between Data Processor, Data Controller and DPO ?
The purpose and method of processing personal data are decided by the data controller. Therefore, your organisation is the data controller if it determines "why" and "how" the personal data should be handled.
When your firm or organisation decides "why" and "how" to process personal data along with one or more other organisations, you are considered a joint controller. Only on behalf of the controller does the data processor handle processing of personal data. However, when there are multiple projects, one of them may serve as the processor for another.
Let's dig in in depth with Akanksha Sachan, Senior Data Protection Consultant at Tsaaro, CIPP/E and outline the obligations of the Data Processor, Data Controller and DPO.
