This is a traditional looking cedar screen however the construction is not. This lattice is all notched into each other to create a smooth look to the screen. Traditonally lattice is overlapped and brad nailed. This screen is notched and glued. There are no nails holding the lattice together.

This was taken coming home from my office Christmas party. I was waiting for the 7 train at Bryant park around 2:30am and MTA employees were cleaning the station walls. I found this interesting, an activity that most people never see so I started to snap some pictures.
You'll notice in the background there is a fairly fat women walking toward me, and at the time I didn't notice her. I turned around and started to take some photos and when she got to me, my back was facing her. She ripped the headphones out of my ears and said "you can't take photos down here!"
Thats a lie, and I told her she was wrong. She said she was going to get a police officer, I told her to fuck off and die. Drama ensued.
If you can see it, you can shoot it.
If you're on public property you can photograph anything you like, including private property. There are some limits, using a zoom lens to shoot someone who has a reasonable expectation of privacy isn't covered, but no one can come charging at you and tell you not to take photos. You can take photos any place that's open to the public, whether or not it's private property. A mall, for example, is open to the public. So are most office buildings (at least the lobbies). You don't need permission; if you have permission to enter, you have permission to shoot.
You can take any photo that does not intrude upon or invade the privacy of a person, if that person has a reasonable expectation of privacy. Someone walking in a mall, or cleaning the subway at 2 in the morning. Fair game?
Further, they cannot demand your camera or your digital media or film. You are under no obligation to give it to them. In fact, only an officer of the law or court can take it from you, and then only with a court order. And if they try or threaten you? They can be charged with theft or coercion, and you may even have civil recourse.

With a landscape that seems naturally designed for adventure, Mukutmanipur offers opportunities in rock climbing, trekking and a variety of water sports.
The local festivals, Tusu, Bhadu, Sahrai and Badna are symbolized by much music and dance, and strengthen the Mukutmanipur experience, laden with the relaxed air of nature in the heartland. The Bankura district has a tribal population famous for its music, art and culture. Mukutmanipur is one such quaint village. The community will provide the tourist with a life that is stress free.
Palash(Butea monosperma) is a species of Butea native to tropical and sub-tropical parts of the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia, ranging across India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, and western Indonesia. Common names include Palash, Dhak, Palah, Flame of the Forest, Bastard Teak, Parrot Tree, Keshu (Punjabi) and Kesudo (Gujurati).
It starts blooming end of JAN and arround mid March it is in full bloom. Perhaps the most attractive flower of the season. When in full bloom, it is a sight to behold ! The mountain ranges are transformed into a spectacular phenomenon making them appear as if the flames of saffron-red colors are leaping from them. No wonder the tree is also known as-and aptly so- ' Flame Of The Forest '. In West Bengal, it is associated with spring, especially through the poems and songs of Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore, who likened its bright orange flame-like flower to fire. In Santiniketan, where Tagore lived, this flower has become an indispensable part of the celebration of spring. The plant has lent its name to the town of Palashi, famous for the historic Battle of Plassey fought there.
It is a medium sized dry season-deciduous tree, growing to 15 m tall. It is a slow growing tree, young trees have a growth rate of a few feet per year. The leaves are pinnate, with an 8–16 cm petiole and three leaflets, each leaflet 10–20 cm long. The flowers are 2.5 cm long, bright orange-red, and produced in racemes up to 15 cm long. The fruit is a pod 15–20 cm long and 4–5 cm broadIt is said that the tree is a form of Agnidev, God of Fire. It was a punishment given to Him by Goddess Parvati for disturbing Her and Lord Shiva's privacy. In the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh, these flowers are specially used in the worship of Lord Shiva on occasion of Shivratri. In Telugu, this tree is called Modugu chettu.
In Kerala, this is called 'plasu' and 'chamata'. Chamata is the vernacular version of Sanskrit word 'Samidha', small piece of wood that is used for 'agnihotra' or fire ritual. In most of the old namboodiri (Kerala Brahmin) houses, one can find this tree because this is widely used for their fire ritual.
Use as a dye
The flowers are used to prepare a traditional Holi colour. It is also used as a dyeing color for fabric.
Use as a pesticide
This plant kills Mosquitoes. They are attracted by the smell and color of the flower. Eggs that are laid into the liquid within the flower will never hatch. Any mosquito that touches the fluid can never escape from it.( Source: Wikipedia)

The medicinal values of Palash have long been acknowledged in our ancient scriptures. Gum secreting from its bark cures Mucus Dysentery, Acidity & many stomach ailments. Its seeds are useful in treatment of worms and intestinal bacteria. ' Panchang ' of Palash or ash prepared from its five parts i.e. leaves, flowers, seeds, skin and root cures urinary tract, Obesity, Kidney problems, Backache & many more ailments. Earth Designs Garden Design and Build were asked to created a landscape and propose garden design in Chelsea, London*. Here are the details of the project
Brief: This very small garden was overlooked on all sides and had an odd layout that offered little room for meaningful use of the space. A small bed at the rear of the garden was dominated with large architectural plants. The client wanted to modernise the garden to create a chic, usable and child-friendly space.
Solution: Simple, clean lines combined with bespoke features give this design garden a stylised yet uncomplicated feel with a strong sense of privacy and seclusion.
Flooring throughout was laid with attractive and durable Iroko hardwood boards, selected with specifications to match an existing raised platform above. Steps were constructed on the left hand side of the space to lead down to a small sunken adjoining a basement room. For safety, a metal and wood balustrade to match that on the platform above was constructed along the exposed edge of the decking, with a metal gate installed at the top of the steps to ensure paramount safety for the client's child.
A shallow raised bed across the back of the space, retained by an aquamarine-painted rendered block wall one metre high, is planted with a variety of strong architectural specimens, such as willowy blue grasses and sculptural allium, and features a series of thick, tall bamboo poles set vertically at intervals along the rear boundary.
To create a uniform appearance to the garden, the side boundary walls were built up to the same height, rendered and painted to match the raised bed wall. A solid, 2 metre high fence, constructed from 4-inch thick split bamboo pole, was installed along the top of both walls to create a high boundary for maximum privacy.
Entertainment possibilities were provided with the installation of an impressive bespoke solid oak seating and matching table. This comprises a long 'suspended' bench fixed centrally along the raised bed wall, complimented by long, narrow bench table.
Finally, an atmospheric lighting scheme allows the client to enjoy the space long into the summer evenings. The raised bed is gently illuminated by a series of low voltage spotlights situated throughout the planting. The suspended bench seat is framed by two stylish glass block lights fixed to the top of the raised bed wall, while two similar wall mounted block lights affixed to the front of the existing decked platform impart a gentle blue wash to the decking below. Decked stairs (existing before the re-design) stairs are illuminated by eye-catching rope lighting running along the underside of each step. To complete the scheme, stainless steel up/down lights secured to the bamboo fence between each potted Cypressa cast ample light across the centre of the space.

Design my Privacy
Nowadays, we continually share data: a message via WhatsApp, a picture on Instagram, an update on Facebook or an e-mail through Gmail. With whom do we really share this data? And how can we make sure that our personal data stay strictly personal?
This exhibition addresses issues of online privacy and digital surveillance. Next to several historical examples of encrypting, ‘Design my Privacy’ also shows some surprising contemporary strategies by more than 35 young designers and artists to maintain control over our data.

The Begijnhof is an enclosed courtyard dating from the early 14th century. Nothing survived of the earliest dwellings, but the Begijnhof, which is cut off from Amsterdam's traffic noise, still retains a sanctified atmosphere.
Purpose of Begijnhof
The Begijnhof was originally built as a sactuary for the Begijntjes, a Catholic sisterhood who lived like nuns, although they took no monastic vows. Houses in Begijnhof are still occupied by single women, so respect their privacy and also be quiet.
Beguines lifestyle
The women were not nuns nor did they live in the seclusion of a convent. And they did not make lifelong vows. They did have to be unmarried and to make a vow of chastity for as long as they were part of the community. Also to promise obedience to the parish priest. But since they were not expected to make a vow of poverty, they were free to manage their own possessions. They could renounce their vows at any moment and leave the Beguinage. This happened for example when they wanted to get married.
The oldest house in Amsterdadm
Het Houten Huis, Begijnhof, Amsterdam
Begijnhof includes the Amsterdam's oldest surviving house "Het Houten Huis" (No. 34.) dating from around 1420. It is one of only two wooden-front houses in the city, as timber houses were banned in 1521 after a series of catastrophic fires. Most of the houses in the Begijnhof were not built until after the 16th century. On the adjoining walls, there is a fascinating collection of wall plaques with biblical themes.

Southern fringe of the square is dominated by the Engelse Kerk (English Church) which dates from the end of 15th century and possesses its original medieval tower.
Engelse Kerk dates from the end of the 14th century. There had been a chapel in the Begijnhof in 1397 on the north side of the courtyard. An extra piece of land to the south was purchased in 1417 and in the same year the building of a new church began on the site of the present building. Disastrous fires during the 15th century, in 1421 and 1452 heavily damaged the church building.
The church is known as the Engelse Kerk (the English Church). The English title is now the English Reformed Church, perhaps to distinguish it from the Anglican congregation which was founded late in the 17th century and now found in the Groenburgwal.
Sunday worship at 10.30 am. Visitors are welcome.
Begijnhof in historic documents
It is not known when exactly the Beguinage was founded. But deducting from mentiones in historic documents we can approximate it's beginnings.
Around 1150, a group of women came here to live in a religious community, primarily to look after the sick. These were, effectively the first 'Beguines' although the name was not yet used.
The first time the word 'beguines' was used was in an official document of 1307 found in the accounts of the Bailiff of Amstelland.
Another document, dated 31 July 1346, speaks of the Beghijnhuis (house of the Beguines) ceded to them by one Cope van der Laene on St. Peter's Eve.
In 1393, on 7 August, Albrecht van Beieren (Albert of Bavaria) ratified the regulations of the Beguinage by letter, taking them under his protection and giving a number of rules for those in the Beguinage to obey. He also stipulated that a woman could only be admitted as a Beguine after she had lived at the Beguinage for at least 18 months.
