MacKenzie and MacRae
During the Jacobite rising in 1745-46, Kenneth MacKenzie, 6th Earl of Seaforth and later known as Lord Fortrose, supported the government and did not bring his clan out for Bonnie Prince Charlie. He had seen the many sufferings of his father and his clan from the prior Jacobite rising and chose to preserve the status quo. He did not lead the MacKenzies or the MacRaes into battle.
George MacKenzie, 3rd Earl of Cromartie together with Simon Fraser, Lord Lovat made a joint recruiting effort in the east around Glenurquhart on the Black Isle, and took part in the Battle of Falkirk on 17 January 1746. Many MacKenzies fought in his regiment but very few MacRaes, perhaps because their population was greater in Seaforth's domain. Both the Earl and his son Lord MacLeod were taken prisoner the day before Culloden. They were later pardoned, but Lord Lovat was also taken prisoner and was executed with great barbarity at the advanced age of 80 via the method known as hung, drawn, and quartered. He was the last nobleman executed in Britain. The majority of the men taken at Culloden were either executed or transported.
As a result of Seaforth's non-participation and Cromartie's recruiting being in the east and not the west, very few MacRaes fought in this decisive battle.
The English never claimed battle honors for the Battle of Culloden, perhaps in shame at the butchery by Cumberland, the King's son, whose policy was give no quarter. Fallen soldiers were murdered where they lay wounded on the field. Of the English who attended the public executions in Carlisle and London, it is said that many turned away. It is hard to believe how savagely the Scots were treated in defeat during the alleged Age of Enlightenment, and historians who want to understand the causes of the American Revolution can look to the aftermath of this one battle and take note of the many Scots names who led America to independence.

Prior to the battle 400 fascines were constructed, 11 feet in diameter and 10 foot long. Whilst the construction work was the responsibility of the Tank Corps Central Workshop the majority were made by the 51st Chinese Labour Company who were attached to the Workshop.
Once the major cities in the DRC and Zambia had been retaken, the only Eurasian strongholds remaining were their bases scattered throughout Central Africa. Some of these were located near a few of the major cities, but many were in remote and distant locations, having helped kept them hidden prior to Operation Isandlwana. To ensure Central Africa remained under UFA control we knew it was imperative to stomp out the Eurasian presence at these bases and preemptively end any chance at them reigniting the war from within. Multiple strike teams consisting of Oceania Advanced Infantry were again called in after their exemplary performance at the port of Soyo and airstrips throughout the region. Led by ranking members of the UFA, these teams infiltrated all the various Eurasian bases, killing the soldiers and higher ranking officers.
After we had taken out the Eurasian presence in Kinshasa the final mission of Operation Cetshwayo was taking out the Eurasian bases. My squad and I were sent on from Kinshasa up to the base near Kisangani, while other strike teams were deployed at the other bases. Our objective was simple: infiltrate the base and kill everyone. Then, destroy the base so as to make sure no one else could use the remaining supplies. This would be the final blow to Eurasia’s efforts in Central Africa, and with it we would be able to annex the DRC and Zambia, using their resources to further the UFA’s strength.

EPILOGUE:
Operation Cetshwayo was over, and a resounding success. Eurasia’s presence in Central Africa was completely pushed out, with no remaining bases or forces left in the DRC or Zambia. All that remained were a few rough militant and rebel groups that had received funding from Eurasia before the start of the war, and without Eurasia’s continued presence these groups would be able to be easily eliminated as well. UFA casualties had been very low, and the alliance with Oceania had proven extremely useful as their operatives had been highly successful on the specialized objectives they were called in for. After taking the cities of the DRC and Zambia, the UFA also now had control of much of sub-Saharan Africa, and the resources gained from their invasion would be invaluable in continuing their ascent up the world power chain.

Decently happy with this scene, I like most of it a lot except for the window on the left, the foliage outside that didn't turn out as I had wanted. However I'm quite happy with the lighting for this and most of the rest of it, hope you all like it and that you enjoyed these three scenes for this story!

This is one of the 9 ducklings which were being watched over by their very attentive mother. Prior to taking to the water they were all resting next to mom but headed for the water shortly afterwards. After 10 minutes in the water, they all got back out on the grass and, as a group, walked along looking for tasty treats(bugs) in the lawn.

From Wikipedia: The paradise shelduck (Tadorna variegata), also known as the paradise duck, or pūtangitangi in Māori, is a species of shelduck, a group of goose-like ducks, which is endemic to New Zealand. Johann Friedrich Gmelin placed it in the genus Anas with the ducks, geese and swans. Both the male and female have striking plumage: the male has a black head and barred black body, the female a white head with a chestnut body.
Paradise shelducks mate for life and usually live as pairs, and moult their feathers from December to February. They are primarily herbivorous, and mostly graze on pasture grasses and clover, but have been observed eating a wide range of invertebrates. They are seasonally hunted as a game bird throughout New Zealand, and today the IUCN Red List classifies them as a species of least concern.
Description:
The paradise shelduck is a colourful, large bodied species of duck that differs in features depending on the sex. Both females and males have chestnut-colour undertails, primarily black wing feathers with green secondary wing feathers, and upper wing surface feathers that are white. They have black legs and webbed feet for swimming.
The adult male has blue-black head and neck, with a black rump and tail; back and flank are lightly flecked with a pale yellow colour. The wing of males have contrasting white upper-coverts and black remiges, metallic green speculum feathers, and rusty brown tertials feathers. The male also has a dark grey flecked with pale-yellow breast and abdomen, chestnut undertail and underwing, and black iris, bill, legs, and feet. The female, unlike the male, has an entirely white hand head and neck with a dark grey back heavily flecked with pale yellow. The rest is very similar to the male with the female's body being dark or light chestnut depending on age and stage of molting.
The downy young are white with a brown crown and brown stripes from crown to tail. Juvenile males look much like the adult males, but the females are smaller with a white patch at the base of the bill. The females assume their white head during the first molt and 1–2 months after fledging their breast and abdomen turn dark chestnut.
Behaviour and ecology:
The male adopts a threat posture by dropping its head low with bill horizontal to the ground. If a female notices a threat on the water she responds by stretching out the neck and body while swimming towards the threat swinging her body back and forth, and making a high pitched call. On land she will lower her head and charge. Males will respond to the females by charging with her or taking on "high and erect" posture. In this posture the male will stretch its neck and head upwards and forwards, raise its feathers on the lower neck, call rapidly, and pivot between facing the threat and the female. When a predator threatens an adult pair with young, the parents will adopt the "broken wing display". The pair will run away from the young in a crouched position, raising and lowering its half-opened wings to distract the predator. Once the predator follows the pair away from the young, one of the adults will return to them.

Prior to settlers arriving, groups from the Molalla and Kalapuya tribes visited the park site to harvest huckleberries, fish and hunt. Cascadia Cave is nearby. The cave is an 8,000-year-old American Indian petroglyph site considered to have the largest concentration of rock engravings in western Oregon.
Willamette Valley settlers developed a bypass at the park site for horse-drawn wagons. Old wagon ruts are still visible near where Soda Creek meets the South Santiam River.
In 1896, George Geisendorfer opened a resort to capitalize on what he called the "curative powers" of Soda Creek's mineral spring water. The resort included a hotel, tennis courts, croquet course, garden and bowling alley. The hotel later burned and the property was acquired by the state of Oregon in 1940.

THE PALACE OF THE PRIORS OR THE MUNICIPALITY
The Palazzo dei Priori, or Palazzo del Comune, can be visited by accessing it from a portico located in the central Piazza IV Novembre. The construction period of the Palace goes from 1293 to 1443. The various construction phases can be traced in the façade. It is a building with a square shape and an imposing appearance, aspects lightened by the three-mullioned windows in Gothic style that adorn the longest façade. The Palace, on the side overlooking the cathedral, takes up the façade of the latter, thanks to the decorations of the portal, decorated in the same way as that of the cathedral. From the Portal the visitor can access the National Gallery of Umbria, which displays the masterpieces of Perugino, one of the greatest exponents of Umbrian art.

Prior to heading out for the day I had guessed that the D&RGW heritage unit might show up on westbound empty garbage train OGLSE. While I had hoped that it would be an afternoon move, about halfway between Cascade Locks and Hood River we rounded a bend to see UP 1989 and 8612 headed straight at us from across Lindsay Lake. It's not a great shot, but then again it was shot across a car, across an interstate, and through foliage. Plus, it continues my pattern of only encountering UP heritage units from fast-moving vehicles.
