Prior to posting this I learned more about screwdrivers than most people need to know! At least the next time he asks for a Phillips I know to look for the star!

Shot (without prior planning) through a closed window in shadow on a late afternoon under a dim sky. I decided to use this image to test my camera's high ISO abilities and shot it at ISO 51200. I used standard software to remove the resulting color noise, but couldn't improve much in the way of focus. A better than expected result (thanks to noise reduction software). I also like the chipmunk's look of concentration.

Last Sunday prior to going to Chatsworth for the firework display, i went for a walk with Helen around Derwent Reservoir. There was little breeze and therefore reservoir was still casting the reflections of all the colours from the trees. Personally i think Derwent is my favourite place to be in Autumn

Prior to the massive mud slide and the ensuing line change of 1983, Rio Grande’s Subdivision 6 main line ran parallel to the Spanish Fork River west of the small town of Thistle, Utah. The Rio Grande Zephyr train No. 18 rolls along what is now an abandoned track and highway, approaching Thistle the morning of April 22, 1979. In the upper background are the snow packed slopes of 10,192 ft. Spanish Fork Peak.

Taken prior to lockdown, from the top of Mam Tor, looking over the Hope Valley, Derbyshire. With all that is going on right now with Covid-19, we all feel for those affected and ‘hope’ that the spread can be contained and for a speedy return to normality.

When the shot was taken, the wind was brutal, we had hoped that there might be good light for a sunset shot, but it wasn’t looking favourable and in any event using a tripod was near impossible. So racked up the iso and shot handheld.

This is the first view that most people see when they visit Avebury.

We arrived nice and early because the place is so popular it gets crowded very quickly. We had finished our wanderings by 9.45am and the place was already pretty busy with coach parties arriving, etc.

The Burj Khalifa[a] (known as the Burj Dubai prior to its inauguration) is a skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is the world's tallest structure. With a total height of 829.8 m (2,722 ft, or just over half a mile) and a roof height (excluding antenna, but including a 242.6 m spire)[2] of 828 m (2,717 ft), the Burj Khalifa has been the tallest structure and building in the world since its topping out in 2009, surpassing Taipei 101, the holder of that status since 2004. (Wikipedia)

----------------

Of course, we had to go see the Burj Khalifa when we were there. I took this photo from the base, just outside the Dubai Mall, where we had spent the morning. Not an ideal time for photography, but with limited time and a desire only for souvenirs, this was the best I could do.

This is near Shaugh Prior in the south-west corner of Dartmoor where the River Plym joins with the River Meavy (just out of shot) and then proceeeds to the sea via Plymouth Sound. Now owned by the National Trust, this is an area with much industrial archeology including disused copper and tin mines, quarries and the remnants of ancient settlements.

I had spent the prior week in the park mostly getting skunked by blue and smoky skies ... not good conditions for landscape photography. But the first day back home served up this great sunrise. You never really know when Mother Nature is going to decide to put on a big show. Alta, Wyoming, USA, September 2024

Prior to taking the shot of the sun breaking over the Twelve Apostles that I posted a couple of days ago, I was on the beach at the Gibson Steps photographing another apostle. It's either Gog or Magog - I'm sure somebody will let me know - and it couldn't have been a nicer morning.

Morning? It was pitch black - the sun wouldn't rise for an other couple of hours and the little sliver of a crescent moon was also still an hour away - and the sky was literally heavenly.

On the left of the sea stack is the Milky Way rising. The southern cross is visible to the left of the Coalsack. Directly above the sea stack is the Large Magellanic Cloud and to the right is Canopus, the second brightest star in the sky. The Small Magellanic Cloud is just about visible through that wispy cloud between the sea stack and Canopus.

I could have spent hours watching it.

In fact, I did.

What began as a could line right at N Holly signal when I arrived 25 minutes prior to the train getting here, turned into partly cloudy skies and a nice early sunlight shot here at N Holly with Lake State’s EMD SD40-2 No.6303 leading.

Hounslow native ADE40401 is seen on route 203 outside the Treaty Centre prior to being subbed. This is the first Hounslow ADE on the route for some time; however, with the withdrawal of SPs and MCLs up ahead, more of these workings may occur.

Prior to my editing..lol

It was a pretty overcast day for landscapes in Devon, so I headed to the Ancient Oakwoods at Shaugh Prior. Spent most of the afternoon wading in and out of the River Plym looking for good compositions. Mossy boulders cloak the banks and the river bed so it can get a little slippery at times. Thanks for looking..

How have I never been to Shaugh Prior before, a return trip is definitely on the cards.

I did this shot a couple months prior with a blue leaser in the lead as seen here: flic.kr/p/2nFRZeX and have been wanting to attempt a do over with a proper red leader. And here it is.

Vermont Railway train 263 is slowing for a stop beside the Chester depot for the crew to grab luncc in this view ooking down the rusty rails of the Back Track that loops around the station. Leading the way is SD70M-2 431 built in December 2006 for the Florida East Coast, and one of only two six axle units on the roster. She is trailed by three geeps and thirty cars destined for Riverside Yard in Rockingham here at MP B13.5 on the Green Mountain Railroad's Bellows Falls Subdivision. This line dates from 1849 when the mainline from Bellows Falls to Burlington opened for business by the Rutland Railroad's precursor company.

At left is a classic old time Vermont Institution, the R.B Erskine feed store. While the sign says established 1952 there has actually been a feed store here much longer. The original R.B. Erskine was elsewhere in town but moved into this spot around 1962 when they purchased it from Park and Pollard that had operated a feed store going back much longer. It was a feed store at least as far back as 1939 when a young Richard Bedford Erskine started managing it before striking out on his own and from what I can find online it appears that it was a feed store as far back as 1917 though I don't know exactly how old the simple false fronted building actually is. To read a little history of the store if you're interested in that sort of thing check out this link: vermontjournal.com/featured-articles/erskines-feed-store-... And happily the store reopened in January 2021 under new ownership but keeping the name and this Vermont institution alive.
