Coming back from indisposition hiatus and not fully recuperated yet to run Cracow streets at will, I've started to learn printing again.

But the home fun was enormous and wonderfull. Any shot like this will not convey the quality of the Epson prints in real day light. :)

Basics:

- Debian 14 Forky (testing) + GIMP (freeware)

- TurboPrint (paid)

- VueScan (prof, paid)

- Epson ET-8550

- Epson papers:

- Premium Semigloss Photo Paper A4, A3+

- Epson Archival Matte Paper A4, A3+

I've been designing a cargo bike recently. This is partly because cargo bikes are A Good Thing, and partly because graphic designer, cyclist and friend Nick Hand wants to take a printing press to local schools to teach them about letterpress printing (and the power of the bike). Oh, he's also going to pedal it across France later this summer, printing postcards as he goes. Pop over to Kickstarter to help make it happen and get yourself a lovely hand printed, bicycle powered postcard or two :

A Swanage tobacconists printing set???

These were together in a metal pencil case, 2 standard 'cigarette' printing blocks, 2 standard blocks of the Swanage crest (one steel on wood and one brass) A brass plate with the tobacconists details then the curious brass round blocks with a hole through the middle and a screw thread hole that I assume held them on a rod. What are they and how were they used?

The address reads

Manufacturers :-

Messrs Bick's

(Proprietor E. Phillips)

2&3, Exeter Place Swanage

Bick's certainly existed during the 2nd world war, caught fire and then re established, may have been there earlier but has gone now.

The round blocks say Bick's, Best Virginia, crest and the image of the garland.

Any suggestions on what they are or history on the shop most welcome.

I got brave and removed a couple more bits .. gulp!.. but it has made the whole job of rubbing down and painting with the Kurust so much easier. I was using Jenolite before but the Hammerite is sooooo much quicker easier and cleaner. Some painting will be required because, if you look at the back section, one of the arms is a replacement from at least 65 years ago and is not cast iron.

This is seriously taking over my spare time, good job we had a typical rainy Bank Holiday!

we offer custom screen printing at my studio.
