The frigid weekend gave me a good excuse to stay inside and work on salted-paper printing after a long hiatus. Did a bunch of test prints to refamiliarize myself with the process, and also started working with digital negatives using the curves generated at the Eastman workshop. Then had to spend some time re-learning how to finish the prints with beeswax and lavender oil.
These are not final prints, generally being coated somewhat sloppily and not toned fully (or, in some cases, at all). But I did manage to get through the process multiple times, found good exposure values, and was able to wax a bunch of prints without tearing any. Now to get some more gold toner, recalibrate the digital negative curve for my own workflow, and generate some real prints. Also want to try out developed-out salt prints when I have some more time.
This shot was an old Sigma DP2 shot; I want to rework the digital negative: the curve on the one we generated at the workshop may push the contrast a bit more than I like, made it tough to print this one with reasonable contrast.
Enviro Image Solutions always looks for creative ways to keep printing blanket waste out of landfills. Recycling is included in the Blanket Renewal Program as we only every send back and charge for those blankets that can be reused on press. Accordingly, we always have an inventory of blankets that need to be recycled. In addition to recovering the blankets for use as alternative solid fuel, we also make many products from used printing blankets, which have been a huge hit for our customers and their customers.

The stencil's been used a lot. It's cut from a double layer of clear sticky plastic, and bits have broken, but I quite like the look of that.

There was an interruption in the filament feed for this job with only about an hour left before the part was finished. A new job was started that tried to resume printing exactly where the last job failed. The results weren't perfect, so some PVA glue was drizzled down the infill to help bind the new layers to the original layers. Not sure if this is a 'standard' technique, but we don't stand on tradition here. The final part came out strong, and a little touch-up sanding and paint will hide the blemish where the job resumed.
The old Government Printing Offices on Murray Street. The original two stories were built in 1894. A third was added in 1907, and the fouth in 1922. I guess the government had a lot of printing to do. These days it's part of Curtin university.
