My first white line print. The image is made by carving grooves in the surface of a wood block (shina plywood, in this case). The grooves outline elements of the image and print as white lines in the final work. Water-based colors are painted on the block and printed onto paper by hand, one color at a time. White line prints (a.k.a. "Provincetown" prints) are similar to other types of woodblock prints but one block is used for all the colors, and the white outlines are characteristic. The block can be re-printed many times. Image is 6"x8" on 8"x10" paper.
In January and February 2022, I returned to physical studios for the first time since Covid-19 and took part in four different courses/workshops (silkscreen, photo-etching, various monoprinting techniques).
