These are some of the title slides that we put together for the Greater Ones series back in March. I think you'll all probably notice from what gets uploaded that the week we did Superman, it was one of my favorites. He's not even my favorite superhero, but just how that week's media turned out looked really great, in my opinion.

The focus was all about bringing out types and shadows of Jesus that are seen in modern superheroes that most everyone seems to love today. Each week our Pastor focused on the particular characters, pulling out certain attributes from each one that were clearly characteristics of Jesus.

Each week we had a video that kicked off the sermon that would highlight each hero, as well as a quick teaser at the very end of service for the next week. If you want to see these videos check out the links below:

The video portion of this project was a lot of fun to work on because it really helped to push our 3D titling abilities, and was a ton of fun to get to edit and piece together. It also helps that our church building is located in an old movie theatre. So our main auditorium has 2 large projection screens that helped really make this series a lot of fun.

Hello Design Cutters! Simon here today. For our exploration of the Beautifully Artistic Designer’s Kit, we are going to create a fictitious poster for a fictitious concert by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

The concert in question will for a performance of Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, which you might remember from Walt Disney’s Fantasia movie (the part about life’s birth on Earth). If you don’t remember the piece, some kind soul put it in full on Youtube. It makes for a great soundtrack while designing.

The bundle’s typefaces, and extensive collection of watercolor textures and elements are a perfect fit with a spring-like atmosphere. Let’s get to it!

I made a Valentine's Day thingy for my latest process piece for Design Cuts!

This one was quite a lot of fun to put together. Roverd is a great script typeface, with plenty of luscious swashes to play with. Add a few ornaments around it, sprinkle with a texture or two, and you'll get a neat card/poster to share with your loved one.

The bundle features some interesting resources for your print projects. You should check it out, and grab it before it's gone forever.

typeset dialect is an attempt to gain a better understanding of the people and subsequent culture that embodies the Whittier neighborhood. This is realized by analyzing a detailed source of imagery (captured while exploring the streets on foot) taken from textual samples residing within the prescribed Whittier boundaries.

Ladies and gentlemen, my latest process post for Design Cuts is live!

In these two mini-tutorials, I'll walk through my process to create two type-driven pieces.

One focuses on the idea of wanderlust, and leverages some delicate script type from their current bundle.

The second poster is a mock horror B-movie poster. It features all the grunge, grime, blood splatters, and fake folds you could ever want.

I hope you'll enjoy following along as much as I enjoyed writing the post! I believe these pieces will help you to get a sense of how much is possible with the 30 different type families present in the bundle. Don't miss out on it.

My first tutorial for the good people at Creative Market is now live!

I will walk you through the process of re-creating a poster I call "Structure." We will go through all the steps, from conceptualization to execution.

I used quite a few resources from the Creative Market community along the way. This writeup should give you a glimpse of how versatile they all are.

I hope you'll enjoy the process piece. Until next one, cheers!

Welcome!

Client: Maestro 1 Productions

Media: Logo and Business Cards

Target:Musicians and Producers

Description: This project was done for Maestro 1 Productions by Matthew Binks whom I have done previous work for with his musical group Under Heaven. Matthew needed a business card for when he went to Popkomm regarding musical business and his band. He initially came to me looking for something simple that he would be able to pass out.

My objective was to make the simple yet sophisticated. I used a musical staff as the background because it proved to be an interesting graphical element. I have always loved the tone-on-tone look so I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to give it a try. The background of the card is 95% black with a musical staff being 100% black. I wanted the staff to stand out so I had the business cards printed with a UV Varnish Coating so when it was it with the light you would see it pop out. I had the cards printed at print100 with double-sided matte lamination and Varnish Coating.

FA researched, designed, and implemented the company into the market space in four short months, which was before schedule. Since the rebrand, Hosted Solutions has grown into a $200 million company servicing some of the biggest fortune 500 companies such as Bank of America and Skanska North America.

This week, for our exploration of the 22 Professional & Artistic Fonts bundle, we are going to create a typographical poster promoting an alas fake chocolate festival. Yes, you have read that correctly: it’s all about chocolate today!

We’ll focus on techniques, tips, and tricks that will help us to design a file that will be ready to screen print. This printing technique has been around for a long time, and involves a manual process.

We’ll cover the limitations of the process, but also its advantages.
