Consistently praised in earlier editions as the best volume on classic elements of web site design, Web Style Guide, now in its Third Edition, continues its tradition of emphasis on fundamentals. Focusing on the needs of web site designers in corporations, government, nonprofit organizations, and academic institutions, the book explains established design principles and how they apply in web design projects in which information design, interface design, and efficient search and navigation are of primary concern.

Explore each of the formal compositional principles below. In some cases, several principles may be involved in the composition of the image. This is fine, but the principle you choose should be what you feel is the PREDOMINATE one in the look of the image. Submit one image for each principle below.

This is the first and one of many art-pop style posters that Steve Frykholm was asked to design to promote the company picnics at Herman Miller where he works. This is a very fun piece that uses many design principles. Instead of having a face of a person eating corn, Steve Frykholm gave this piece a more interesting approach for the composition by cropping the image so it focuses just on the mouth. By doing this, the poster emphasizes two common things that can be found at a picnic, eating and ears of corn. The mouth and corn are further emphasized through the color choices. Using the bright white, yellow and red on the black background creates contrast that allows the colors to pop. The balance of this design is simply wonderful, using symmetry to evenly distribute the weight of individual shapes.Speaking of shapes, the design principle sequence was put to use repeating the similar yet slightly different figures over and over again, creating a nice pattern for the corn and teeth, The red lips help to unify and complete the piece, asserting that it is in fact, a mouth eating an ear of corn. Frykholm is known for the picnic posters he designed, as well as his collection of the annual reports for Herman Miller. www.aiga.org/medalist-stevefrykholm/
Helene van Rhijn Primary School, Mural
Primary learners painted a mural based on the seven principles of ocean literacy. It turns classroom ideas into colour, showing how the ocean shapes Earth, climate, and our lives.
This photo is part of the Waves of Change initiative, a community-based art and ocean literacy project along Namibia’s coast. The project uses creativity and storytelling to inspire young people, connect communities to the sea, and share their voices with decision-makers. Supported by local partners and the NIMPA+ project, Waves of Change empowers champions of ocean conservation through murals, workshops, and education activities.

Molarchae's BOOK collection melds together our love of science, creativity, and reuse. Science is an ever-evolving body of knowledge, and as a result, many older books are almost laughably outdated. We rescue books that are past their informative and/or physical prime and give them a new life with the help of a laser cutter and a lot of love.
