Beautiful pre-dawn colour yesterday morning.

Crummock first light - As blue hour gives way to the approaching dawn, faint traces of pink appear in the light wispy clouds above still Crummock Water, with the subdued tones of the distant fells from the pre-dawn light.

A long exposure shot just before sunrise taken at Lake Kolsay, high in the Tian Shan mountains in Kazakhstan near the border with Kyrgyzstan. I found a small gravel beach along the lakeshore where the curving shoreline lead the eyes towards the start of the sunrise at the end of the lake.

The red cliffs of Capitol Reef tower above the well maintained Gifford homestead in Fruita, Utah in the predawn hour. The glow of sunrise on the horizon is catching the east facing portions of the cliffs, formed by ancient windblown sand deposits (Wingate Formation, lower portion) and from riverine depsoits (Kayenta Formation, upper layer). The white dome sticking up in the back is Navajo Sandstone, deposited as sand in a desert environment.

Once one of the most isolated communities in the U.S., Fruita (formerly known as "Junction") is now HQ for Capitol Reef National Park, who maintain fruit orchards and a few of the old buildings. The park is a great example of how human impact on the landscape can be nicely blended in with the surroundings, with "historical" (100+ year old) orchards adjacent to 1500+ year old petroglyph panels, just below the cliffs of the reef.

Feliz dia de los Muertos- this photo is an ofrenda (offering) to my departed family members and friends who helped instill in me a deep appreciation of the beauty of nature- gracias.

Predawn in St Mark's Square

To cut a long story short my plans on going to Corfe today to photograph Christmas lights have been slightly scuppered and I am running out of time to do that now so this is another one from the other morning where we witnessed some wonderful pre-dawn colours. It was almost like having tickets to an event waiting for the sun to rise through the door.

I would like to wish everyone a wonderful Christmas wherever you are. Hoping for peace on earth and er... a new set of ND grad filters.

Love to all xx

I'm sadly too busy to go on photography trips these days, so I'll upload some "older" shots from last summer. Hope you like.

Forced myself to wake up early one day on vacation so I could shoot the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean and I'm glad I did.

memories of times when we could travel....

A very grainy shot of the Matterhorn, but to be expected given the lack of light when I took it.

This is the pre-dawn, about 20 minutes before the sun rose, and the sky starts to turn an amazing pink purple colour that develops into the sunrise. I think the sunsrise is more beautiful at the start, just so damned difficult to photograph...

As I left Sheffield and saw the amazing pre-dawn sky in my rear view mirror, I almost diverted to Higger Tor where I could have included in my shots. I carried on to Curbar Edge and though, the impressive sky was mostly behind, there was enough colour in the frame shooting away from it.

I still can't believe I actually got up before daylight at stupid O'clock in the morning.... which looked a whole lot like nighttime to me! Drove up to Skyline drive in the Shenandoah National Park for some sunrise photos and to meet the rest of the camera club there. From where this was taken, it's a half hour drive from my house. The light was very intense before the sun came up and I was not awake in the least bit! LOL Spent the better part of the day up there looking for some fall color (not much yet) and exploring around looking for bears but came up empty again. Now... it's back to Normal and I will catch up with everyone tonight ! :)

took this on my morning ride. It is predawn and the sunrises over the land giving the sea some beautiful colours. Beautiful time of the day

I walked up to the ridge just before dawn. I hunkered down on in the road ditch to stay out of their radar and enjoyed watching them graze in the corn stubble.

It's been over a month since my last post, and it was nice to get out and shoot some last evening and this morning. I didn't make it to the DC Cherry Blossoms last year, so I made a point of going at peak bloom this year. The crowds were ridiculous, but a little patience and some good conditions paid off, as I came away with a few keepers during the two shoots.

This is one from Saturday morning prior to the sunrise.

Thanks for looking!

Simply point and shoot with the iPhone! The sun is still way below the far hillside, but the sky turns a fiery red. I couldn't resist the call - and this is the zoomed-in final shot I took.

The pre-dawn sky was wonderful this morning. This was taken just a minute before the sun was due to rise.

A predawn drive through Atlanta yielded two shots of this fast moving OCS before work. I was initially planning on just getting one shot but its hard to break away from something this nice!

The novice mistake from a few years ago, photographing nearby Crummock Water instead of Buttermere (Doh), were long forgotten. Not much of a dawn to speak of, however, the purple hues early doors made for some interesting long exposure work.

Thanks in advance for any comments or favourites you may wish to make.

A little predawn action by the Snow geese and Sandhill Cranes, Bosque del Apache, NM

I went to shoot a time-lapse at the pier this morning and took the time to take some long exposure images before starting the time-lapse. I’m glad I did as the sun never made an appearance. By the time the sun rose the horizon was covered with clouds, nothing like shown in this image. The long exposure gave a somewhat surreal look to the pier and rally showed off the decorative shade covers. (Sony a9iii, 12-24mm lens @12mm, f/5.6, 121 seconds, ISO 125)

Each Autumn I try to time a visit to Wedge Pond so that it will render some colorful work. The landscape is nestled in a kind of bowl inside the mountain range. The sizable pond is surrounded by trees while access from the highway is easy with convenient parking.

Take heed though, there will be a plethera of photographers at this wonderful place most mornings. This predawn image delivered a violet cast in the sky, while the trees stoicly held their color back until later when the sun rose.
