Predawn monsoonal thunderstorms with nearly continuous lightning departed just in time for the sun's rays to illuminate the receding showers producing this beautiful double rainbow.
Picture of the Day
took this on my morning ride. It is predawn and the sunrises over the land giving the sea some beautiful colours. You can see the moon setting in this one.
As the moon approaches the ocean it turns bright golden orange and then disappears.

Hello my friends : )
There was a slight frost across this pier in the middle of May!
I walked onto it (directly after shooting) and it was very slippery as well.
(We had snow & hail just two days before I shot this photo!)
I left the house around 03:00 and was rewarded with some beautiful scenes early on : )
This predawn shot was taken at 04:24 and you can already see some small clouds beginning to glow from the coming sunrise.
Unexpectedly, a huge fogbank rolled in later that morning and completely enveloped the entire scene!
It was amazing!
I'm not really experienced with shooting heavy fog scenes, but I gave it a try and will upload some of those in the future too : )
This scene is SOOC (straight out of camera).
I wanted to leave it as it was, to try and show the early morning darkness still hanging on during the predawn stage...
and it shows in the darker water near the shoreline (and the pier reflection as well).
The place brightened up within moments though ; )
Hope you guys find something interesting or enjoyable here : )
I'll be around to visit soon... wishing all of you a wonderful day ahead!
☺

An early morning view of the predawn sky silhouetting the mountains to the east of us on Sumas Prairie in Abbotsford, British Columbia. (24-10-14-3073-74)
My first visit to the magical Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, East Java, Indonesia. This is one of the first photos I took, shortly before sunrise.

Smoke from Eastern British Columbia and Alberta (West of Edmonton and around Calgary), Canada.
Dozens of forest fires began recently after a bout with heat and continued dryness in these Canadian Provinces. The winds carried the smoke directly to the Denver Metro Area; nearly 1,300 miles to the Southeast of these fires.
Today the Air Quality Index (AQI) was so poor here, that Denver, Colorado was ranked in the top five cities of the world with the worst AQIs. It is easy to smell this smoke from the burning trees this far away. Edmonton, Alberta, for example, is ~1,255 miles (or ~2,020 km), from the Denver Metro area!
Praying for our Canadian neighbors' safety as they battle these fires. Trusting that the smoky air here will clear out soon.
An another photo of the church I like very much. A panorama of 6 shots.

This old bridge isn't going to get any prettier for a long while with the retrofit work making itself more visible above the deck. So, I am trying to get as many angles as I can photographed at moments that lend themselves to photographs. Sometimes it is the early morning that tells you to make an exposure. This was one such case.
Thank you, as always, for your support!
It has taken me too long to realize that the rich colors of predawn occasionally trump the brightness of first sunlight, despite what my eye may tell me. This view of Valley of the Gods was taken 30 minutes before sunrise, yet the rocks and clouds were already picking up the rich light of the sun filtered by a long path through Earth’s atmosphere. Two of the buttes are named on maps: second from the left is “Rudolph and Santa” and on the far right is Castle Butte. Lime Canyon is the furthest drainage in this view. My guess is that there are different names for these features used by indigenous cultures that have inhabited this area for millennia (Puebloan, Ute, and Navajo).
While this area remained in Bears Ears National Monument during 45’s term in office, it is appropriate at this time to express gratitude to President Joe Biden and Interior Secretary Deb Haaland for the restoration of the earlier boundaries of this national treasure. Hopefully some Utah lawmakers will get on board and help promote this effort.

Another image of this wonderful millstone on Over Owler Tor to add to the collection. No direct light but some lovely mist and colour in the sky.
I took this photo early morning on a small lake near Bishop, in the Owens Valley, against the Eastern Sierra Mountains.

winter predawn from my veranda ...
which according to Flickr Maps is in some mysterious place with no name 😃
The ancient limestone karst mountains along the Li River in Guangxi Province are silhouetted against the rose coloured sky of the pre-dawn and a soft breeze ripples the water and the reflections of the mountains in this long exposure. The rare complete absence of people give the image a timeless look.
