A quiet stand of beeches rises against the pale autumn sky, their branches bare yet full of quiet grace. The light of late afternoon brushes the hillside, casting long shadows that drift like memories across the grass. Though the leaves have fallen, the trees hold a serene dignity—as if waiting, unhurried, for winter’s touch and the slow promise of spring.
La vallée d'Abondance, est une petite région du Chablais français, constituée par le bassin versant de la Dranse d'Abondance. Il s'étend sur environ 25 km de Chevenoz jusqu'à Châtel. Il est situé dans les Préalpes françaises, dans le Haut-Chablais.
La majeure partie du territoire est constituée de la partie haute de la vallée de la Dranse, et des montagnes environnantes dominées par les Cornettes de Bise (2 432 m) et le mont de Grange (2 432 m).
Cette région est un paradis vert en été et blanc en hiver, que je traverse plusieurs fois par an à moto avec des arrêts obligatoires pour des ballades et des photos!...
Le Dévoluy est un massif des Préalpes du Sud entouré par le Champsaur, le Gapençais, les pays de Buëch (Bochaine, Veynois), le massif du Diois, le Trièves et les Écrins.
In primavera, grandi nuvole bianche galleggiano nel cielo e sembrano volersi abbassare per incontrare le montagne.

I funghi sono organismi singolari: non sono piante, nè animali e dunque formano un regno a se stante. Misteriosi e spesso stupefacenti - basti pensare che l'organismo vivente più grande è un fungo - s'incontrano nei luoghi e sui substrati più diversi. Le loro forme e i loro colori gareggiano con quelli dei fiori per vistosità e bellezza, ma al tempo stesso, se mangiati, possono essere mortali. Pochi, tra gli uomini, li conoscono in modo approfondito ..... ..
At the border of the high Padan Plain, just at the feet of the first line of the Prealps, there lays a string of five lakes. They draw a line that is the base of the so-called Larian triangle, i.e. the triangle-shaped mountainous land between the two arms of the Lake Como (also called Lario). These lakes, often called the Lakes Briantei, or the Brianza Lakes (from the name of that land, Brianza), are way smaller than the Lario and the other great lakes of Northern Italy - just a string of beads in the higher plain - but they share the beauty of their larger cousins, although on a smaller, more intimate scale. I have always felt quite strongly the fascination of their common origin, which dates from the end of the Würm glaciation, some 11,700 years ago. I can easily see in my mind the enormous, mighty glaciers from the Alps flowing beyond the last mountains and spreading through the high plain. A powerful sight, indeed... Yet all that glory was deemed to end as the climate was becoming warmer, and eventually the glaciers began to recede, leaving behind deep ditches and huge semilunar terminal morains. You can easily fill in the story - the melting waters, the swamps, the debris from the looming mountains, and, eventually, the lakes.
Well, this is not a lesson in geology - I am by no means an expert, just a guy who perceives geology in a deeply emotional way (quite possibly a trait acquired from my late father, who was a passionate amateur mineral and fossil prospector).
I have begun a photographic exploration of those relics of the last glaciation, the Lakes Briantei. At sunrise, of course.
My first session was at the Lake Annone, the largest one, that is divided in two basins by a narrow peninsula. I limited myself to the Western basin, mostly looking Eastward.
This is a detail landscape showing, if needed, how a grand landscape may have smaller, complete landscapes nestled within itself. There could be many landscapes-within-a-landscape, every photographer might perceive and discover new ones. I loved this detail, as a gap between the mountains lets the eye run further and further away, following the outlines of distant mountains as the air becomes more and more transfixed with golden light, until it reaches the lone, elegant outline of the Pizzo dei Tre Signori (= "Peak of the Three Lords", a name stemming from the historical division of the area that it marked, between the State of Milan, the Republic of Venice and the Grisons canton of Switzerland). I am bound to this mountain by epic, adventurous memories from my youth and this quantum tunnel beams both my eye and my mind from the lake directly to that proud peak (which is some 30 km away), as the enticing, sparkling reflections on the waters of the lake make my soul dance. I hope that the photo is good enough to stir emotions within your heart as well... Have a happy Sunday!
I have processed this picture by blending an exposure bracketing [-2.0/-1.0/0/+1.0/+2.0 EV] by luminosity masks with the Gimp (EXIF data, as usual, refer to the "normal" exposure shot).
Along the journey - post-processing always is a journey of discovery to me - I tried the inverted RGB blue channel technique described by Boris Hajdukovic to give a slight tonal boost to several parts of the scene. As usual, I gave the finishing touches with Nik Color Efex Pro 4.

Il Campo dei Fiori è un massiccio montuoso delle Alpi che si trova nella sezione delle Prealpi Luganesi, a nord della città di Varese. Il massiccio è tutelato dal Parco regionale Campo dei Fiori.Agli inizi del Novecento, come su altre vicine vette prealpine sopra i laghi, come il Monte Generoso ed il Mottarone, anche sul Campo dei Fiori iniziò un importante sviluppo turistico. Nel 1911, dopo un anno di lavori, fu inaugurata la funicolare Vellone-Campo dei Fiori, che in poco più di 10 minuti raggiungeva i 1.032 m s.l.m. del Monte Tre Crocette, anticima del Monte Tre Croci. Subito dopo vi fu aperto anche il ristorante Belvedere e l'anno seguente fu inaugurato il Grand Hotel Campo dei Fiori, entrambi progettati dall'architetto Giuseppe Sommaruga in stile Liberty.
Lungo la strada carrozzabile che raggiunge il Campo dei Fiori furono edificate residenze private, progettate anch'esse in stile Liberty, dagli architetti Silvio Gambini, Arturo Taddio e lo stesso Sommaruga (villa Petazzi, villa Savina Armiraglio, villa Mercurio', villa Edera e villa De Grandi.
Negli anni venti e anni trenta la località si affermò come meta del turismo d'élite europeo. Durante la seconda guerra mondiale il complesso fu adibito ad ospedale dei feriti e nel secondo dopoguerra andò incontro ad un rapido declino: nel 1958 si decise di sospendere l'esercizio della funicolare, sostituendola con degli autobus e nel 1968 il Grand Hotel e il ristorante Belvedere furono chiusi. Dagli anni ottanta l'edificio dell'albergo è stato utilizzato come supporto di antenne e di ripetitori televisivi.
Unica struttura ricettiva della parte alta (Sacro Monte escluso) è l'Osteria Irma con bar e ristorante funzionante dal 1949.

C'è una eleganza essenziale nelle foto in bianco e nero. Le forme -e non il colore- colpiscono chi le osserva. Le ombre e le luci creano una impressione profonda che sconfina nell'immaginario.

Laghi di Revine
Immersi nella Valmareno, tra le Prealpi venete e le colline trevigiane si trovano i due pittoreschi e caratteristici laghi glaciali di Santa Maria e di Lago, comunemente noti come Laghi di Revine.
Separati oggi da un piccolo istmo, formavano un tempo un grande specchio d'acqua nato dopo il ritiro del grande ghiacciaio del Piave. Un angolo suggestivo, a pochi passi dalle località di Vittorio Veneto e Conegliano. Sulle acque tranquille dei due laghetti, orlate di canneti e d'estate punteggiate di ninfee, si specchiano su una sponda le caratteristiche casette di sassi del comune di Revine Lago e delle sue frazioni, sull'altra quelle di Tarzo.
Le località che si affacciano sui piccoli laghi accolgono i turisti in cerca di un soggiorno a contatto con la natura e le antiche tradizioni, conservate gelosamente e rivissute nelle pittoresche manifestazioni e feste popolari.
Il rif. si trova nel cuore delle Prealpi Orobiche a 1845 m. di quota proprio sotto il Passo di Portula visibile alle spalle del rif. con alla sua sinistra il M. Madonnino a 2502m.
La Rh1116.222 nella livrea promozionale "Red Bulletin" corre in testa ad un Railjet verso Rosenheim attraverso le colline e le prealpi della Baviera orientale. (2/11/15)

A quiet autumn light settles over the Alta Lessinia, soft as a breath.
The small mirror of water in the foreground holds the sky like a secret,
while the grass—faded gold and whispering—leans gently toward evening.
Beyond the rolling pastures, the world rises in layers:
first the dark line of the forests, then the distant summits.
To the left, the Adamello gleams with a pale crown of snow;
to the right, the Brenta Dolomites carve their ancient silhouettes into the fading blue.
The mountains feel both close and unreachable,
standing watch over a landscape that moves slowly with the seasons.
It’s a moment suspended—calm, luminous,
as if the land itself were pausing to listen to its own heartbeat.
