The rents and I went to Tehachapi for Valentine's Day (it was Mum's request) and we were giddy, that's right, GIDDY, to see some sparkling white snow!

I've been wanting to see snow for months now too so it was the perfect Valentine's Day :D

The process in which the seeds of a tropical plant are selected, planted, grown, harvested, separated from the fruit that surrounds them, fermented, washed, dried, hulled, sorted, roasted, ground, and brewed is long and complex. Here we see hot water pouring onto the seeds (called beans, although they are not) after grinding into a coarse powder. A dark infusion, called "coffee" is the final result. A sip of fresh black coffee may not be enough to animate the dead but it certainly makes my day better.

Taken for Macro Mondays "powder".

We finally got a decent storm and it looks like another one is coming in, tomorrow. This is my boss, Alta Marketing Director, Brandon Ott, taking a turn in front of the camera. Man, I love a good powder day!

Another powder day in the Cascade Mountains - the season started off slowly but Feb has been the snowiest month in quite some time with temps much lower than normal

The Powder House (Y Cwt Pwdr) dates to the mid-18th Century and takes its name from its original use as a store for the gun powder unloaded from ships for use in the local slate mines.. In approximately 1897, the then redundant gunpowder store was converted into a dwelling house.

Definitely seem to have got through more of the above than the actual fruit in the last ten days or so... I hope to be putting them away in the cupboard again soon!!!

Lucky : yes we have been ! A beautiful weather for one day followed by a snowy night, and the landscape is totally changed by the next morning. That's the magic trick of Scotland and the Isle of Skye.

Like usual, a feast for our eyes.

I made two shelves of some leftover balm(?) wood I had. The room is looking way more cosy already. I wish I had a narrow bench or something to add to it..

When I took this photo, I first thought this is a church, but it's not . . .

I learnt that this is a Kruithuis (Gunpowder House). Seen in Stellenbosch, South Africa. It was built in 1777. Today the building is used as a museum.

"After a quick half-a-dozen bacon sandwiches each, they pulled on their coats and Mrs Weasley took a flowerpot off the kitchen mantelpiece and peered inside.

‘He’s never travelled by Floo powder,’ said Ron suddenly.

[...]

’You must speak clearly, dear,’ Mrs Weasley told Harry."

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Chapter 4

Totally cumbersome, idiotic and backward, this Floo Powder system. I wondered what happened right after they invented it - suddenly every household needed to enlarge its fireplace times three? Imagine arriving in a muggle sized one… Anyway, now we know why the Weasleys have this massive fireplace.

I took some creative liberties here, using dark orange and shape-wise, since the one in the movie is bland and boring. It was important to me to create one different from Marcel’s Gryffindor fireplace but at the same time have something that was simple enough for the Weasleys. Not easy, with the magnificent and intimidating version that his is!

There's a small rug with a Weasley tartan right in front - not sure how practical that might be in the long run with all the ash though.

I do like the arch just above of the opening. It's construction is actually quite simple and uses a couple of clips but it's look is nice. The rug took me a while but it was worth the effort I think. The colors work well and the pattern is nice, too.

This series is obviously heavily inspired by my friend Marcel who did the inspirational undertaking of doing a series of daily builds covering Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone last month. Please follow him as his work is amazing and deserves way more views than it currently has!

Thank you, Marcel, for allowing me to continue what you started. You are indeed a wizard.
