The beautiful Kennal Vale river flows through the old gun powder works, one of my fave spots to visit particularly at this time of the year. The leaves are down spreading their reds and yellows over the mossy rocks, a polariser helps to reduce glare and bring out the colours. There are so many lovely compositions to be had here, I have a few more images to show yet from this amazing spot.

One big mistake with this shot is I should have thought at the time to focus stack, I was a bit like a kid in a sweet shop I think.

happy, busy, time for nothing

As of late I have either had difficulty remembering where I took a photo or misplaced my notes altogether. Fortunately I have the notes from this shot of a loaded coal train on the sweeping curve at Belle Ayr in the Powder River coal basin. 9.01

Okay, so its 95 degrees Fahrenheit (35C) in Denver at the moment, working its way up to a forecast 100F (38C)... So what do I do, I reach into the archives and pulled out some freezing-ass cold shots from winter.. This was the morning after two feet of fresh powder had just fallen and Belle was surveying her new virgin playground. She proceeded to dive right in (literally). It's my girls' favorite weather...snow. I think it was about 10 degrees (-15C) as I shot this

Went out last night to try and get the super moon climbing over the horizon at Seahouses......sadly, too much cloud up there to get it at its maximum size but the sky looking west wasn't too bad and used a little light painting to add some light and details in to the little stone building know as The Powder House which was built in 1886. It was used to store the gunpowder while constructing the long pier at Seahouses Harbour.

Couldn't believe the temperature last night....mid Nov and it was 16 degrees....very pleasant!

This circular building was where the gunpowder was stored away from the main buildings at Magpie Mine, it would have had a lightweight roof so any explosion went upwards.

Yesterday was dreamy. I can make more sophisticated and subtle ski photos. But this right here is what it's all about - first tracks on deep powder day. This is why I don't think I'll ever leave Utah.

Powder day at Monarch

Had a brilliant day of backcountry skiing last Monday with Claire and B. Pro. A very high avalanche danger day, so kept the slope angles down. Knee deep light floaty effortless powder. I love Utah.

Alta welcomed the first weekend of spring with almost two feet of fresh, fluffy snow. I have no complaints.

What a nice surprise. I expected five inches or so of snow today and it turned out to be a 13-inch powder day. This is Alta's Marketing Director and my boss, getting absolutely buried. I think this may be my favorite powder photo of the season. It's so kinetic and chaotic. I love it! I'm really glad I took the day off to ski, today. Chances are, this was the last legit powder day of the season.

Macro Monday's Theme 30 May 2022. This is vegetable protein powder that we have in our thick breakfast shakes, made with Soy Milk and sliced bananas, every morning since 1990. The only time we wouldn't have this drink is when we're away for a short break. It's coupled with a fresh vegetable juice drink made from carrots, beetroot and celery with a touch of root ginger. Yum

Calliandra haematocephala

(Red powder puff / Carbonero)

Calliandra haematocephala, commonly called red powder puff, is an evergreen shrub or small tree native to Bolivia. Raspberry-like flower buds open to hemispherical red powder puff flower heads (to 3” across) consisting of masses of scarlet stamens.

Genus name comes from the Greek words kalli- meaning beautiful and aner or andros meaning male, hence a stamen in reference to the flower's many stamens.

Specific epithet means blood-red head in reference to the flowers.
