Same shooting position as yesterday's posting. The left edge of this photo is the right edge of that photo.
I increased the saturation of red, but minimized its luminance. I maxed out the saturation of blue and maxed out its luminance. Also did some slider gymnastics: maxed out shadows, maxed out contrast, and increased brightness to 0.34; all in Photos for Mac OS.
Ditto on everything else from yesterday's posting.
While positioning myself to attempt capturing a pair of Stonechat by some gorse last week I accidentally spooked this Buzzard from a tree. I remember being disappointed that it flew in front of the low Sun as I sprayed away, so I was quite relieved when looking at the back of camera to see a pleasing rim-lighting effect around its feathers.

As the smaller guy on the right seems to be supporting the bigger guy, today's Mupic (Music and Picture combination) came to mind. Another Sixties classic; He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother, by The Hollies. I spotted them while mowing the lawn and the overall colour combination also appealed to me.

The road is long
With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows where
But I'm strong
Strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
So on we go
His welfare is of my concern
No burden is he to bear
We'll get there
For I know
He would not encumber me
He ain't heavy, he's my brother
If I'm laden at all
I'm laden with sadness
That everyone's heart
Isn't filled with the gladness
Of love for one another
It's a long, long road
From which there is no return
While we're on the way to there
Why not share
And the load
Doesn't weigh me down at all
He ain't heavy he's my brother
He's my brother

I hate to overplay a theme, but again I just find myself seduced by the light and neck position of the swan in this image. I can never tire of just observing these beautiful creatures.
Locked in on some north pacific humpback whale activity in Mamala Bay.. off the southern coast of Oahu Island, Hawaii.
Before the latest snowicane hit our beloved state, my wife and I made a quick sojourn to see how various wildlife was anticipating what was to come. For whatever reason, within a few miles out of town, we were able to spot a half dozen eagles flying about. A couple of them were carrying Florida maps, not sure what that was about.
I saw one eagle flying toward our vehicle but by the time I had stopped, grabbed my camera and opened the door, all I was able to snap was an in-focus shot of his posterior. But before I could climb back into our vehicle, this one came from out of the western skies and I was a little better prepared.
When I photograph flying eagles, I try to get different positioning of their wings. If I am close enough like for this photo, wings in an open position show off the wonderful texture and color of their feathers.
Not everyone shares my enthusiasm for eagles. I laughed one time when I posted an eagle shot on a site and a fellow from Alaska was not very impressed. He said in their area eagles were considered a nuisance and looked on as just more colorful crows.

China, Harbin, City Impressions, St. Sophia Cathedral Place.
Heilongjiang Province, the most northeast part of China, when viewed on a map has the shape of a swan. Its capital city is Harbin, which is located south of Heilongjiang.
Not only for its special position, but also as the centre of Heilongjiang's political, economic, educational & cultural life, Harbin is described as the pearl beneath the swan's neck. Lying on the east of the Songnen Plain, what is more, Harbin plays a vital role in communications between South & North Asia as well the regions of Europe & the Pacific Ocean.
Harbin was the birthplace of Jin, 1115-1234 & Qing, 1644-1911, Dynasties, the latter of which had a very considerable influence on modern Chinese history.
At the end of the 19th century, Russia built the terminus of the Middle East Railway here. Later, more than 160,000 foreigners from 33 countries migrated to Harbin, promoting the development of a capitalist economy in the city. The economy & culture of Harbin achieved unprecedented prosperity at that time & the city gradually grew into a famous international commercial port. Assimilating external culture, Harbin created its unique & exotic cityscape. The majestic St. Sofia Orthodox Church & Zhongyang Dajie each built in a European style have the effect of bringing you into an 'eastern Moscow'. Even though you are sure to be attracted by various exotic buildings, the Dragon Tower which embodies the wisdom of the Chinese people is a must on your journey.
Besides these rich cultural heritages, Harbin is favoured with beautiful natural scenery. Based on meandering Song Hua River & subject to severe low temperatures in winter, down to -30°C, when I took this Pictures the Temperature varied between -20°C & -26°C but dry air, Harbin boasts a unique ice & snow culture. So, Harbin is also called the "Ice City".
The impressive "Ice & Snow Festival" is the greatest & unusual one in the world, therefor Harbin is also called the "Ice City".
As well the large Siberian Tiger & white tigers research centre, with about 500 tigers & a few other species, does an important work to prevent this species from extinction. The Research centre can be visited, tours in small a bus are available, passing through wide natural, separated, sections, however the focus point is to save the tigers.

I positioned myself between some large rocks and waited for the big waves. As all the water was funnelled into the gap I was standing in - it was quite hard to keep my footing. Lost a flip flop and nearly my phone in the pursuit of 'the shot' - trying to get the impact splash of the wave hitting with the rock illuminated by the setting sun.

There are lots of charming, kind and smart Border Collies on the Faroe Islands.
On the smaller islands, where people travel by boat (or helicopter), the Border Collies usually come to the dock to see what's happening and who's coming and leaving ツ
This is one of the three Border Collies who came when we waited for the boat back from Fugloy. They were really cuddly, and one of them found the dog treats I had forgot in my jacket ; )
This one was standing like this for a long time, watching the puffins on the cliff right over the dock. He followed them with his eyes as they were flying in and out ツ

Chess players from a chess set depicting the conflict between Muslims and Catholics in Spain about 600 years ago.
I positioned the two most powerful pieces hiding behind the two weakest pieces. Consistent with many conflicts today those in power will sacrifice weaker players to achieve their personal goals.
I choose black and white over color to represent that regardless what side of a conflict you are on, there really isn't much difference between all of us.

ANother day, another Grevillea. This time, I found this 12 foot shrub just blooming. I don't know how long it flowers, but this should give y'all plenty of time to come and see it. I think that the flower of this one is one of the prettiest and certainly not quite as bold as the others which you'll see in due time.
Grevillea petrophiloides (pink pokers) is a shrub grevillea native to Western Australia. It is 1 to 3 metres high, with thin, needle-like leaves and dense, cylindrical flowers. Grevillea petrophiloides occurs in sandy and rocky areas. The fruits are sticky follicles, 5 to 7 centimetres long. The flower stalk two weeks before this was taken was like two six inch tightly packed - like catkins - and there was the promise of hundreds of stamens. I fully expect the Anna's Hummingbirds to start showing up (they're nesting right now, the only time of year when I don't see them on a regular basis). And the bee hive in the willow tree trunk down the street is just showing signs of life. It's spring!
I'd like to have given this the black background treatment, but it's just not possible with such tightly packed flowers. I knew that when I was choosing this particular branch, the only one without part of the tree as background. Rather, I could position myself to get one of the paths to be "behind" the flowers and naturally blurred at that time of day.
View large to see the individual stamen emerging.

Now that we all had a chance to relax for a couple of postings, kick back, put up our feet and enjoy some birds in their posing positions, let’s dive right back into the high octane charged world of flight action and observe the Chickadee trying to catch up to her buddy the Nuthatch as he’s trying to hit that wormhole on his way back down south. Will she catch him? Not likely. Two separate portal openings will occur, annoying the heck out of my California friends although it should not be that bad this time around because sound baffles have been installed in an effort to keep the cross border peace. I find myself in an awkward position here, trying to accommodate the natural inclinations of the yard wildlife and at the same time balancing that with the needs of my neighbors for peace and quiet. Kind of like being between a …

The Marble Temple, Bangkok, Thailand.
“The Marble Temple” as known to foreigners is most satisfactory architecturally with its symmetry and lovely proportions. The Hall was constructed from Carrara marble from Italy and showing distinct European neo-classical influence. It has been reckoned for its architectural and decorative arts of finest Thai craftsmanship, say, second to none in the world. After spending the last week in Houston and pondering how it could be the last of scores of trips to the Houston area over a 40+ year career, I came home to look at what I shot when I lived in that area. One of my favorite railfan days was to head west on the Katy freeway hoping to catch something on the parallel Katy. If I got to where they crossed the Santa Fe at Sealy, I would head either north or south on Rt 36 that paralled the Santa Fe. I would sometimes get as far north as Temple but on this particular day, at the encouragement of a rare mileage friend from Boston, I rode the Houston section of the Lone Star just a few weeks before it was taken off. The couple of hours layover in Temple gave time to walk around and be in position to shoot this early CF7 leading an octet of 4 axle power on a trailer train into town. Sept 29, 1979.
I was not expecting to pull a bat out of the water today. This little bat was attacked by seagulls then dropped into the river. While I was looking for something to reach it the bat flipped over and started swimming for the dock. I picked it up, it was pissed, and put in in a bucket until after work. I took it to an abandoned building, in safe spot. It was still pissed when i took it out of the bucket. Seemed to be fine, other than bothered.
