It has always been my wish to photograph the secretive Sora head-on showing its laterally compressed body, which allows it to slip and weave easily through dense vegetation. However, seeing the Sora in the open is notoriously difficult.

I was justifiably excited when I spotted this Sora walking cautiously along the path. And when it turned and looked straight into the lens for a brief instant, the angle, light and position were just right, as seen in this picture. Luck!

I am glad that I was ready and took advantage of that opportunity.

Saturday, several of us are gathered at Commonwealth Lake (at safe distancing), waiting for the osprey. Finally, one showed up, and did take the strike position a few times, but never took a dive.

An overcast day was not what I was hoping for but at least there was some movement in the clouds to capture!

I will be visiting Mwnt again for another go soon!

The Church of the Holy Cross at Mwnt, Ceredigion, Wales, is a parish church and Grade I listed building dating probably from the 13th century. The building was restored in 1853 and again after storm damage in 1917. A 1912 photograph shows the south windows in different positions.

We had a brief encounter with this very cooperative American Kestrel this past winter while photographing Owls. It was happily perched and suddenly started getting a bit anxious as other people tried to approach it. Luckily I was positioned decently enough to get a few shots as it made a getaway.

Happy Caturday~ Looking on the Bright Side

When a cat is playing or frightened, they try to make themself look as big as possible. A stiff-legged hopping gait often accompanies this puffing out of their fur.

Jerri often assumes this pose when playing with Oscar, much to our amusement and delight!

I positioned this bright white Clematis to cheer up a dark corner in the garden. It has turned out to be quite stunning !

These Sandhill Cranes are coming into a field nearby so we see more wing positions. Normally they fly 300-400 miles per day and follow the wind currents at an altitude of 3-5000 ft above ground. Using the tailwinds there is not as much need to constantly flap but do so when coming down or climbing up – they are like other fowl using the wings to control the flight.

Unfortunately, I was not able to see this guy pupate. It happened in the wee hours of the morning when I was still snug in my bed. However, there is a beautiful Chrysalis hanging from this leaf now. I’ll post that picture tomorrow. Good luck on your transformation Monarch!

No wonder orchids have become so popular. Once considered difficult to keep, I now have two that seem to be happy in their current position.

I love the intricate composition and have taken many macro shots of the interior, but as this one was illuminated in the morning sunlight coming through the window, I could see an angel emerging.

There is still much to do. Seems as if work has caught up with me again.

Have a great time, dear friends! Take care!

Llandanwg Beach sits between the towns of Barmouth and Harlech on the southern side of Tremadog Bay. It is also part of the wider Snowdonia National Park and situated close to the pretty Afon Dwyryd estuary.

The sand dunes to the back of the beach conceal the tiny church of Saint Tanwg which dates from the 13th century. A small path winds through the dunes and leads you to the beach from the central car park area or you can take a trail from Cardigan Bay. As you sit on the pristine sands you will also be able to enjoy vistas of the rugged Rhinog Mountains in the distance.

The beach here shelves gently into the sea making this a good place to swim, although there is no lifeguard so care should be taken. When the tide is low, it reveals a causeway out to pretty Mochras which is also known by its local nickname of Shell Island due to the plethora of different hued shells found on the its beach.

Due to its strategic position, Llandanwg Beach is shielded from the well known Welsh winds which can be a little fresh at times meaning that you can enjoy this area even in the off-season. The beach is also well-loved by locals including fisherman who come here for the plentiful supplies of bass, mackerel, flatfish, and dogfish. With that in mind keen anglers will find plenty to do here, or you can explore dainty rock pools or simply go for a stroll on the soft, pristine sand.

Amenities at Traeth Llandanwg include disabled access and the village is also home to the quaint Y Maes Cafe close to the beach which operates from June to October.

This fallen tree has adapted to it's inclined position and regrow into a bow shaped branches.

Positioned deep within the frame, perfectly splitting the mid-ground and background, the frog is draped in tiny patches of duckweed, camouflaging him into the swampy carpet. In the distance, the scene is framed by weathered, moss-covered logs, adding a rustic texture to the soft, aquatic environment.

I am grateful for your continued support and appreciate every view, fave, and comment!

As I was observing this Eurasian Hummingbird Hawkmoth, it occurred to me that it could be a female, overpositing onto the Valerians. Still awaiting confirmation from iNaturalist.

Brisk and breezy, but manageable, and not a cloud in the sky, I was out on the lake yesterday, comically trying to accomplish this photo for about 20 minutes as the wind, stronger in the middle of the lake, continually blew me out of position. So it was paddle back to try to accommodate the drift (you can see the wind direction from the waves), reach into my parka for my camera, bring it up to shoot...only to find myself well to the left of the shot. I performed this sequence numerous times, never really achieving the desired "directly into the sun" shot. This is the best I could do before getting completely disgusted...you can see it's STILL left of center...and retreated to the calmer shoreline.

Not many of these days left...every one now a treat before the canoe is brought ashore for the winter.
