"Pollux" (as well as it's twin design "Castor" was made from a gorgeous and oh so beautiful knit fabric with silver threaded pattern. My favorite piece from the new collection and Gigi's too -I had to make an extra for her own closet ; ).

It looks very lovely on the little ladies as well, such as Barbie and Poppy.

Dear flickr friends,

this has been an amazing year so far (and it went by so fast, too ; )) – thank you very much for your lovely comments and support! You are true levitationistas!

My latest collection will be the last collection for year 2018. It’s not as big as my other collections when it comes to the numbers of pieces, but it’s BIG in shimmer and glitter and sparkle *lol*.

Perfect for the festive season to come, my collection “The Stars” brings you gorgeous fabrics and lovely designs.

May you all have a wonderful Christmas time and enjoy the magical moments it offers : )!

... at the top of the stairway on the right.

Two large statues of the Dioscuri twins stand at the top of the stairway that leads up to the Piazza del Campidoglio on Capitoline Hill. Most of the statue is a restoration/reconstruction dating to the 16th Century, but they include fragments found at the Temple of Castor and Pollux in the Roman Forum.

Castor and Pollux, were 'youths of Zeus' (from the Grrek, 'Dioskouroi'). They are said to be the twin sons of Zeus/Jupiter; the 'Gemini' which means twins in Latin. They are also associated with horses and horsemanship; 'horse tamers' was one of their honorifics.

The many monuments in prominent locations to Castor and Pollux that you encounter in Rome and Italy is because they are said to have helped the Roman Republic in its victory over the last King of Rome.

They were the heroic cavalry twins. They were said to have lead the cavalry at the front of the Roman army at Battle of Lake Regillus in 495 BC, and later brought news of the victory to Rome.

The current statues of the Gemini twins replaced the ones placed here by Michelangelo

The temple was originally built in gratitude for victory at the Battle of Lake Regillus (495 BC). Castor and Pollux (Greek Polydeuces) were the Dioscuri, the "twins" of Gemini, the twin sons of Zeus (Jupiter) and Leda. (wiki)

The Pollux was the last in the Gorgon series of US Navy post-war experimental missiles. It was derived from the airframe of the Gorgon IIC, but with the pulsejet mounted internally to improve aerodynamics and improve speed. The type flew only three times from 1948 to 1951 and was then cancelled due to its slow development.

Probably the only surviving example, this Pollux was transferred to the Smithsonian Institute from the US Navy in 1971 and is now part of the National Air and Space Museum. It is seen on display in the James S. McDonnell Space Hangar at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center

Antoine Coysevox's copy of the Castor and Pollux group, executed between 1685 and 1707 and signed it 1712, was first exhibited in Palais du Louvre. It was moved here to the gardens of Versailles in 1712.

The Castor and Pollux group (also known as the San Ildefonso Group, after San Ildefonso, the location of the palace of La Granja at which it was kept until 1839) is a 1st century AD ancient Roman sculptural group, now in the Museo del Prado. Drawing on 5th and 4th century BC Greek sculptures in the Praxitelean tradition, such as the Apollo Sauroctonos and the "Westmacott Ephebe" without copying any single known Greek sculpture, it shows two idealised nude male youths, both with laurel wreaths, leaning on each other, and with a small female figure on an altar to their left (usually interpreted as a statue of a female divinity), holding a sphere (variously interpreted as an egg or pomegranate).

The identification of the figures inspired many choices of male pairs during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. During the 19th century, it became known as "Antinous and Hadrian's genius", "Antinous and a sacrificial daemon", or simply as Antinous and Hadrian pledging their fidelity to one another. All these identifications are now thought to be erroneous, and the group is now accepted as Castor and Pollux, offering a sacrifice to Persephone.

In Greek mythology the Dioskouroi (Διόσκουροι), Kastor and Polydeuces (Κάστωρ και Πολυδεύκης), in Roman mythology the Gemini (Latin, "twins") or Castores, Castor and Pollux are the twin sons of Leda and the brothers of Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra. According to Liddell and Scott's Lexicon, kastor is Greek for "he who excels", and poludeukeis means "very sweet".

Pollux has joined our household with a hearty meow.. He's just about 4 months old and is the sweetest kitten I've ever met... Castor is tolerating him but Pollux so badly wants castor to love him... Castor is diabetic but picked up some weight again and I'm going in tomorrow to have him retested because he may be in remission... That is the best and biggest hope here if I can get him to a point that I don't have to give him the shots 2 times a day... Big fingers, legs, toes crossed that that's the case... I love them both so much and really want to have them grow old together...

I was originally enrolled into the GETTY IMAGES collection as a contributor on April 9th 2012, and when links with FLICKR were terminated in March 2014, I was retained and fortunate enough to be signed up via a second contract, both of which have proved to be successful with sales of my photographs all over the world now handled exclusively by them.

On November 12th 2015 GETTY IMAGES unveiled plans for a new stills upload platform called ESP (Enterprise Submission Platform), to replace the existing 'Moment portal', and on November 13th I was invited to Beta test the new system prior to it being officially rolled out in December. (ESP went live on Tuesday December 15th 2015 and has smoothed out the upload process considerably).

With visits now in excess of 19.602 Million to my FLICKR site, used primarily these days as a fun platform to reach friends and family as I have now sold my professional gear and now take a more leisurely approach to my photographic exploits, I would like to say a huge and heartfelt 'THANK YOU' to FLICKR, GETTY IMAGES and everyone who drops by.

Photograph taken at an altitude of Fifty five metres at 12:47pm on Tuesday April 18th 2017, in front of the Tempio dei Dioscuri (Temple of the twins ), the Temple of Castor and Pollux located in Regione VIII Forum Romanum, seen here on the right.

Castor and Pollux (Kastor and Polydeuces) were twin brothers known as Dioscuri or dioskouroi, who's mother was Leda. Castor's father was Tyndareus, King of Sparta while Pollux was the divine son of Zeus. In Latin the brothers are known as Gemini or Castores, and when Castor was killed, Pollux asked Zeus to let hgim share his own immortality, thus they were transformed into the Constellation Gemini. They were seen as patrons of sailors, apopearing to them as St Elmo's fire (St Erasmus of Formia), and also associated with horsemanship.

To the left we see Tempio di Vesta (Temple of Vesta), one of the oldest known structures located in the Roman Forum, once a storehouse for legal wills, documents of Roman Senators and cult objects including the Palladium. It is believed that the temple was built in the 7th century BCE by Numa Pompilius. Destroyed and rebuilt countless times, the current surviving section was reconstructed in the 1930's during the Dictatorship of Benito Mussolini, following it's complete destruction in 1549.

An adult entry fee in April 2017 is twelve Euros, which allows a two day pass into the Colosseum and nearby Palatine Hill.

Dioskouros (Kastor or Pollux) - rear view

Roman, A.D. 1 - 200

Marble

The Dioskouroi were twin sons of the mortal woman Leda, but Pollux's father was the god Zeus, while Kastor had a human father. They became great horsemen and hunters and were among the heroes, known as the Argonauts, who sailed with Jason in his quest for the Golden Fleece. The twins were also invoked in Greek and Roman cult worship as savior-gods who would come to the aid of soldiers and sailors. This statuette depicts one of the brothers standing in his typical heroic pose, wearing only a cloak over his shoulders and a pilos (soft conical hat). He once held an upright spear, and his horse is indicated by the head at his feet. The other twin would have been standing next to him in mirror image.
