View of the three columns of the Temple of Castor and Pollux in the Roman Forum from the Capitoline Hill. A rain squall had just passed through, and a ray of sun broke on the three columns in an otherwise overcast sky (just before sunset). In the background, against the sky, the statuary on top of St. John Lateran. Background left: the superstructure of the Colosseum. Background right: the Arch of Titus.

PILOTS POLLUX / in Zoutelande

"Pollux" (as well as it's twin design "Castor" was made from a gorgeous and oh so beautiful knit fabric with silver threaded pattern. My favorite piece from the new collection and Gigi's too -I had to make an extra for her own closet ; ).

It looks very lovely on the little ladies as well, such as Barbie and Poppy.

Dear flickr friends,

this has been an amazing year so far (and it went by so fast, too ; )) – thank you very much for your lovely comments and support! You are true levitationistas!

My latest collection will be the last collection for year 2018. It’s not as big as my other collections when it comes to the numbers of pieces, but it’s BIG in shimmer and glitter and sparkle *lol*.

Perfect for the festive season to come, my collection “The Stars” brings you gorgeous fabrics and lovely designs.

May you all have a wonderful Christmas time and enjoy the magical moments it offers : )!

In Latin called: Templum Castorum or Aedes Castoris, and in Italian: Tempio dei Dioscuri. Of the original eight Corinthian columns three remains.

The remains seen today are mostly from the third incarnation of the temple, built in 6 A.D. by Tiberius. The reason for that was that the one before that, built in 117 B.C. Lucius Caecilius Metellus Dalmaticus, had burnt down. And that one had in its turn replaced the first one, built around 484 B.C. after the victory at the battle of Lake Regillus (Regillus lacus) where Castor and Pollux is said to have appeared helping the Romans to victory. The place for the temple is also based on a legend, after the victory the twins were (supposedly) spotted watering their horses at the Spring of Juturna which was located here, and this was seen as a sign as this being the right place to build the temple.

It's a bird!

It's a plane!

No, it's a flaring satellite!

Three kids climbed a hill near their home village to watch a flare of the Iridium 29 satellite. Below the flaring satellite, the planets Jupiter and Venus (the brighter one of the two) grace the twilight sky. At far right, the twin-stars Castor and Pollux are visible, while Regulus, the brightest star in the constellation Leo, can be seen left of the satellite trail, forming an almost straight line with Venus and Jupiter.

In Greek and Roman mythology, Castor and Pollux or Polydeuces were twin brothers, together known as the Dioskouri. Their mother was Leda, but Castor was the mortal son of Tyndareus, the king of Sparta, and Pollux the divine son of Zeus, who seduced Leda in the guise of a swan. Though accounts of their birth are varied, they are sometimes said to have been born from an egg, along with their twin sisters and half-sisters Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra.

In Latin the twins are also known as the Gemini or Castores. When Castor was killed, Pollux asked Zeus to let him share his own immortality with his twin to keep them together, and they were transformed into the constellation Gemini. The pair were regarded as the patrons of sailors, to whom they appeared as St. Elmo's fire, and were also associated with horsemanship.

Today, I was walking in the meadows and I saw some saplings, cut off about six inches above the ground, very neatly, on a bevel. Seemed strange, that someone with would be chopping brush in such a remote area. Closer inspection showed teethmarks -- beavers. I walked down the edge of the pond, looking for a lodge. Beavers build these wigwams of sticks and mud in the middle of the water, thick-walled, with the entrances on the bottom, under water. I couldn't see one. Eventually, I ended up in a big tangle of vines, standing on a pile of corn cobs and beaver scat and it comes to me that this beaver hadn't finished the lake house, yet.

Then I heard a loud slap on the water. Beavers slap the water with their tails, to warn each other of predators. But Mr. Pollux wasn't hiding from me -- he was swimming back and forth, watching. And, since I was standing in his living room, I could understand his interest. Biggest beaver I'd ever seen, like a mastiff. He kept slapping the water and I began to think it wasn't a warning to the other beavers so much, as it was a warning to the idiot with the camera.

Glacier in the Monte Rosa Region between Switzerland and Italy near the Matterhorn in Zermatt - Switzerland.

Pollux (4,092 m) is a mountain in the Pennine Alps on the border between Valais, Switzerland and the Aosta Valley in Italy. It is the lower of a pair of twin peaks (Zwillinge), the other being Castor, named after the Gemini twins of Roman mythology. It is separated from Castor by a pass at 3,845 m (12,615 ft), named the Passo di Verra in Italian and the Zwillingsjoch in German. The peak is known as Monte Polluce in Italian.

The first ascent was by Jules Jacot from Geneva with guides Josef-Marie Perren and Peter Taugwalder (father) on August 1 (the Swiss national day) 1864. Their route was via the Schwartztor, a pass first crossed by John Ball and Gabriel Zumtaugwald in 1845. The impressive north ridge was first climbed by Captain John Percy Farrar (a future President of the Alpine Club) and Wylie Lloyd with guide Josef Pollinger on 18 August 1893.

Ascents are usually made from the Rifugio Ottorino Mezzalama (3,036 m), the Monte Rosa hut (2,795 m); if traversing the peaks via Pollux's north ridge, PD+, the Capanna Quintino Sella (3,585 m), and the Cesare Volante e Giorgio Rossi bivouac hut (3,850 m).

The first winter and ski ascent of Pollux was by Dr Alfred von Martin and Karl Planck on 7 March 1913.
