Power was out, but the moon was showing in the sky over Montreal along with the stars Pollux and Castor.

My half of our 32nd and final entry to the Iron Builder.

(Also for SHIPtember! The POLLUX is 126 studs long and weighs a hefty 9 pounds!)

***************

The United Nathalian Starship Pollux, built for incredible torque and strength, so exquisitely designed, that this behemoth can be run solely by 3 human personnel and 9 androids. Powerful enough to reach speeds of Warp 12 in 4.3 seconds, and armed with devastating photon torpedoes and dilithium phaser banks, the POLLUX is a stunning sight to behold.

But is it powerful, great, and mighty enough to destroy Mark of Orion's latest acquisition, the alien ship DOOMSDAY?

The Nathalians, once a harshly oppressed culture ruled with an iron fist of communism, underwent a brutal and costly civil war, and now they are finally a stable, honest, and established republic. But the aftermath of the war remains. The population is only half what it used to be, and the mechanical-mindedness and intelligence of the Nathalians is the only thing that has kept them from extinction. With their science and technology, they applied machines and robots in place of what they had lost, and are now climbing back into a glorious new age.

Thank you, all my loyal contacts, for your awesome support during this epic (and slightly stressful!) Iron Builder... and I'm only sorry that I couldn't reply to each of your great comments! Believe me, I do appreciate every single one!

The ruins of the Temple of Castor and Pollux in the Roman Forum, May 2013.

Templo a los gemelos de Géminis

Bien

Temple to the Gemini twins

All right

The Temple of Castor and Pollux is one of the most emblematic and evocative monuments of the Roman Forum. Although the remaining three columns are some of the most immediately recognizable elements of the Roman Forum, they are only a fraction of the original temple that was destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries.

The original temple was built in the 5th century BC for the cult of Castor and Pollux, also known as the twins of Gemini, figures originally from ancient Greek mythology. The temple was later destroyed in a devastating fire and rebuilt by Tiberius in AD 6, the remains of which we see today. During its life, it was used as a temple, a secret meeting place for the Senate, a warehouse and a government office. In the dark centuries that followed the collapse of Rome, the temple was dismantled with its recycled parts in other buildings around the city, leaving only the three ghostly columns we see today.

It is one of those typical monuments that is pleasant to see in real life, but whose real interest lies more in the history behind it than in the ruins that are found today. Even so, it deserves a visit without a doubt.

Two more peaks, west of the Lyskamm, are Castor (4223 m, left) and Pollux (4092 m).

Remnants of the Temple of Vesta (left of centre) and Temple of Castor and Pollux (right of centre) as seen from Via Sacra (near Basilica Aemilia).

The Temple of Vesta contained Vesta's holy fire within a circular chamber; it was believed this flame had to be maintained to ensure Rome's safety and prosperity. The Vestal Virgins who lived in a house nearby were responsible for maintaining the flame.

The huge temple to Castor and Pollux was built in remembrance and gratitude for the aid of the twin sons of Jupiter gave to the Roman Republic in its victory over the last King of Rome at the Battle of Lake Regillus in 495 BC.

The Temple of Castor and Pollux (Latin: Aedes Castoris) was a temple dedicated to the twins Castor and Pollux from Greek mythology.

The temple was located near the House of the Vestal Virgins and was built in honor of Vesta, the goddess of the hearth. In, or near, this temple used to burn a fire that was never allowed to go out and the Vestal Virgins were responsible for this.
