Another flashback from my trip to Alaska, this time in Skagway, AK. Such a beautiful city. At the end of the stay someone recommended a small hike out to Dyea Point, boy was it worth it. Do you agree?

PS-It's exciting to note that this image had the "honor" of being chosen by flickr as an "EXPLORED" image- what is EXPLORE ??
Explore is Flickr's way of showcasing the most interesting photos within a given point in time -- usually over a 24 hour period.
Flickr receives about 6,000 uploads every minute --
That's about 8.6 million photos a day!
From this huge group of images, the Flickr Interestingness algorithm selects only 500 images to showcase for each 24-hour period.
That's only one image in every 17,000!
Pretty Cool - huh?

I never thought much about rodeos until I went to one and had a chance to shoot it. I came to appreciate an entire culture and way of life I knew nothing about, and a contest of man vs animal that has been played out for many generations. This is a bull rider, generally accepted as the craziest of them all, less than half a second into what he hopes will be his 8 second ride. The bull, for his part, hopes to see to it that he does not make the 8 second mark. His opening moves are strong. We’ll see who gets his way. Eight seconds is a long time on a bull.
Idaho's Initial Point is a volcanic butte rising from the western Snake River Plain. Beginning on April 19, 1867, surveyors mapped the entire state starting from this butte. Every piece of land in the state is referenced by its direction and distance from a brass survey marker located on top of the butte.
Gogerly's Point was named after Charles James Gogerly a young man that was charged for shoplifting and sentenced in England. He made his journey as a convict to Australia in 1818 as a labourer with the Australian Agriculture Company. He was pardoned in December 1840 and made his home at Port Hacking.
Gogerly's Point is located in the Royal National Park on the west side of Port Hacking estuary, about 25k south of Sydney.

A very cold and windy night. I had to hold the camera and tripod while I took 20 -15 second shots for this panorama. I am really surprised it worked.
Looking back from the smaller light "Winkie" toward the foghorn and Point of Ayre lighthouse. There is no beach as such here as the currents off the coast wash any sand away leaving pebbles most of which are rather large,

One day there was a parade of Fiat 126p cars. The one shown here is painted appropriately to commemorate August 1, 1944. This is the date of the outbreak of the Warsaw Uprising.
I am adding a link if any of you would like to know this story card.

My motivation to take a quick shot was also the surroundings. I hope you will like this photo as well.

This was the magnificent view that greeted us at Bryce Canyon upon our arrival, close to sunset. This is from Sunrise Point.
Point Reyes Lighthouse, standing tall against California's rugged coastline. With its classic white and red stripes, it contrasts with the stormy sky. Surrounded by lush greenery and wildflowers, a winding path leads to the lighthouse, hinting at a challenging journey. The vast Pacific Ocean stretches into the horizon, emphasizing the lighthouse's role as a guiding beacon. The scene evokes a sense of isolation and natural beauty, with mist adding mystery and adventure. Steps leading down to the lighthouse add depth and perspective.
Rattlesnake Point receives its name from the snake-like path cut by glaciers along the edges of the Niagara Escarpment, rather than from the Massassauga Rattlesnake. It is one of the most scenic areas between Toronto and Hamilton, with old cedars, limestone cliffs, beautiful caves, and hiking trails. It is a United Nations Biosphere-protected area.

Nestled in the quiet Frogner neighbourhood, the Vigeland Sculpture park is home to Gustav Vigeland’s unique creations and the world’s largest sculpture park by the same artist.
The sculptures symbolize every aspect of human life.
All 212 statues depict human beings of different ages, sexes and sizes, stuck in different and sometimes perplexing poses. Vigeland wanted his statues to capture all the aspects of a person’s life, both in a literal and in a metaphorical sense. And he made them all naked, so that they remain timeless.
Vigeland Park is, in itself, an open-air museum. But there’s also an actual museum, located just outside the park in the space where Gustav Vigeland used to live and work, which most people either neglect to visit or are not even aware it’s there in the first place. (But it is definitely, positively worth a visit !!)

The Monolith stands at the highest point in Vigeland Park, and measures 17 meters above ground. The sculpture is carved out of one stone block, hence the name. The stone was originally shot out of the quarry in Iddefjord, Norway, and transported to the park during the late 1920s.
The sculpture depicts 121 human figures clinging and floating together. There's women and men of different ages, and the top of the Monolith is crowned with children. The sculpture has been interpreted as a kind of vision of resurrection, and our longing and striving for spirituality.

Our Navajo guide (Bernard) said stand on the "x" and take the shot. Even though I have stood in this spot a number of years ago as have many others it was fun to frame up this classic shot in beautiful Monument Valley.
