Fort Point has been called "the pride of the Pacific," "the Gibraltar of the West Coast," and "one of the most perfect models of masonry in America." When construction began during the height of the California Gold Rush 1853, Fort Point was planned as the most formidable deterrence America could offer to a naval attack on California. Although its guns never fired a shot in anger, the "Fort at Fort Point" as it was originally named has witnessed Civil War, obsolescence, earthquake, bridge construction, reuse for World War II, and preservation as a National Historic Site.

A cold clear morning makes for a beautiful sunrise over Lake Erie from the tip of Point Pelee National Park.
Ιf we take into account all the parallel horizontal lines of real life, we will identify them in a photograph and extend them, then where they join, we will find the point of departure. "DSC_0102
Point Betsie Light is located on the northeast shore of Lake Michigan — at the southern entrance to the Manitou Passage — north of Frankfort in Benzie County in Northern Michigan. Construction began in 1854, but it was not completed until 1858, and began service in the shipping season of 1859.
The name Point Betsie originates from the Native American people who were in the area and communicating with the French at the time. The French "Pointe Aux Bec Scies" comes from the Indigenous word "Ug-Zig-A-Zee-Bee" which People of the Three Fires [Tribal] Council gave to a river flowing into Lake Michigan just a few miles to the south, where sawbill or Merganser ducks thrived. Translated, Point Betsie means Saw Beak Point.

Peak period on Sydney harbour.
Last Saturday night at McMahons Point Wharf.
Saturday 12th October, 2024.
Part of my recent dusk walking tours around the harbour.
Lately I have been parking the car along Blues Point Road, and walking down to the harbour.
A catamaran had just picked up more wedding guests from the McMahons Point Wharf, and was embarking on its dusk wedding cruise.
Meanwhile, the 'John Nutt' ferry - coming from Darling Harbour - was just about to dock at McMahons Point Wharf, to collect passengers going to Luna Park (Milsons Point) and then under the bridge to Circular Quay.
The 'John Nutt' is Sydney's newest ferry, commencing service in July, 2024. It is one of the new Parramatta River Class of catamarans. John Nutt was an engineer who was chiefly responsible for constructing Sydney's Opera House.

Point Fermin
San Pedro, CA

I posted my first processed drone photo on Oct. 17th. It was a sunrise taken from above my house in the mobile park where I live.
I took the DJI Mavic Air 2S out on a Photo Expedition to Cabrillo Beach and Pt. Fermin in San Pedro, a couple of favored local spots for my photography, on Sunday morning.
This shot of Pt. Fermin was taken about 18 feet up and out enough so that you can clearly see the lighthouse and buildings on the Point, and get the turbulent sea and the wonderful cloudscape as well.
Not bad for only my second processed drone photo.

Zabriskie Point composed of sediments from Furnace Creek Lake, which dried up 5 million years ago—long before Death Valley came into existence.
Zabriskie Point was used as surface of Mars in the film Robinson Crusoe on Mars; The Joshua Tree. Zabriskie Point is also the name of a 1970 movie by Italian director Michelangelo Antonioni; its soundtrack features music by British band Pink Floyd and Jerry Garcia.

This view is just as big a cliché as Elgol and is, almost always, crawling with photographers around sunset. Just to make my attempt slightly different, I used the NDx1000 filter to get a long enough exposure to smooth out the sea.

Another shot of Beckley Point in Plymouth, taken on an evening out with Jay Stone.
Beckley Point is Plymouth's newest student accommodation tower block and at 23 floors it's the tallest building in the South West. A lot of local people think it looks ugly and is a blot on the landscape, but at night I think it looks pretty cool.
I do like doing night time photography, I don't do enough of it but I think we're quite limited in Plymouth. We don't have lots of lit up buildings and futuristic looking skyscrapers like they do in London, so once you've shot an area here at night there aren't really many options left.
