A long distance shot of Point Bonita Lighthouse just outside the Golden Gate and San Francisco. A still functioning lighthouse although maritime guidance is enhanced with additional GPS, radio beacons, etc. these days. Prior to the Bonita Lighthouse being built (??) and moved to this location in 1877, there were dozens of ships that sank in the fog trying to navigate into San Francisco Bay.
Illuminated in 1855, it is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the West Coast. Automated in 1975.

I just got back from an amazing trip to the Grand Canyon, Page AZ, Bryce Canyon and Zion. I arrived at the Grand Canyon just before sunset. I'd never been here before so I stopped at Mather Point to catch my first glimpse of the canyon. There was so much anticipation and excitement as I approached the rim.
