When the lifting in the upper atmosphere is very smooth and gentle, cloud droplets all grow to the same size. Uniform droplet size causes diffraction, leading to iridescence. Yes, the clouds really looked like this! Colors and textures in this photograph intensify the longer you gaze at it, especially with the full-size original version. Look for this effect near the Sun whenever you see thin, fresh, and gentle altocumulus clouds! Seen along the Briones-Mt. Diablo Trail, on the way up to the Wall Point Trail. Mt. Diablo State Park, CA.

Zabriskie Point is a part of Amargosa Range located in Death Valley National Park in the United States noted for its erosional landscape. It is composed of sediments from Furnace Creek Lake, which dried up 5 million years ago — long before Death Valley came into existence. The name Zabriskie comes from Christian Brevoort Zabriskie, who in the early 20th century was the vice-president and general manager of the Pacific Coast Borax Company, whose famous twenty mule teams were used to transport borax from the company's mining operations in Death Valley.

Decided to go for a quick hike around the Old Rocky Point fairgrounds in Warwick RI. It has been covered to a walking area open for investigating. The kiddos loved exploring.
Decided to try the little ZV-1 that I normally use for video as a stills camera. It makes suprisingly nice and flexible RAW files and it is a ton of fun using such a small camera.
PS: Zac Bryan was amazing!

Taken from the boat on our way out to see some Gray Whales. We did actually see a group of 5-6 about 10 miles from shore.
Point Loma is a seaside neighborhood of San Diego, California. Geographically it is a hilly peninsula that is bordered on the west and south by the Pacific Ocean, the east by the San Diego Bay and Old Town and the north by the San Diego River. Along with the Coronado peninsula, Point Loma separates San Diego Bay from the Pacific Ocean.
Point Loma was first discovered by Europeans on September 28, 1542 when Portuguese navigator Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo (João Rodrigues Cabrilho in Portuguese), departed from Mexico and led an expedition for the Spanish crown to explore the west coast of what is now the United States. Cabrillo described San Diego Bay as “a very good enclosed port,” and historians believe he probably docked his flagship on Point Loma’s east shore, likely at Ballast Point. Fort Guijarros was constructed there in 1797.

"Stormy Point offers you the chance to view one of the best preserved sequences of river terraces in the world. Each major terrace formed during a period cooler than the present. An increase of erosion in the Rangitikei River headwaters filled the valley with greywacke gravels. Each intervening period of warmer climate allowed the river to cut into these deposits, forming a deep gorge as seen at present. Continued uplift of the land, which is being tilted to face south, raised the older terraces above a level where they could be buried by each successive terrace forming episode".
