Saturday 23rd March saw the arrival of CT Plus as the operator of route 20 (Walthamstow Central - Debden), using a fleet of E400 City vehicles.

A panorama consisting of 6 single exposures stitched together. In winter 2013/14 we got snow late, at the end of January, but really a lot of it. In some other parts of Carinthia there is snow 3m high on top of the houses. Some towns were disconnected from the grid for some days, schools were closed and so on. Doesn't sound that funny, but better like this, than green winter. Just my opinion. We here in Radenthein have around 1m of snow in sum till now, forecast predicts snow for next week again!

I bought a little gorilla tripod with a cellphone attachment. The idea being I could video band practices and then try to sync the video to my garageband recordings and have quality sound on a rehearsal video for the first time in human history.
I was playing with the little tripod thing tonight. I set it on my desk and then used my Apple Watch to remotely take a couple of pics of the cat. she was not amused.

Les Padaung, ou Kayan, sont un sous-groupe d'environ 7 000 personnes du peuple Karen, minorité ethnique tibéto-birmane du Myanmar (Birmanie). En 1990, à cause du conflit avec le régime militaire birman, beaucoup de Kayan sont partis pour la Thaïlande voisine. Ils y vivent près de la frontière nord, avec un statut légal incertain.
C’est autour de l’âge de cinq ans que les fillettes reçoivent leur premier collier-spirale et celui-ci est remplacé par une spirale plus longue au fur et à mesure de leur croissance (ce ne sont donc pas des anneaux que l’on ajoute, mais toute la spirale que l’on change).
Contrairement à la croyance populaire, ces spirales n’affectent pas les vertèbres du cou pour les allonger, mais elles pèsent sur les côtes qui évoluent en penchant vers le bas. Ainsi, plus les côtes penchent, plus le collier tombe sur les épaules, ce qui le rend trop large et pas assez grand pour envelopper encore tout le cou. C’est à ce moment qu’il est remplacé par une spirale plus longue, afin de continuer le processus.
Ces spirales doivent être enlevées pour pouvoir être remplacées par des plus longues, ce qui infirme l’idée selon laquelle les enlever serait mortellement dangereux pour la femme. Cependant, la plupart des femmes les gardent toujours car la peau et les os de leur cou sont meurtris et décolorés par le fait qu’ils aient toujours été cachés par ces colliers. De plus, l’habitude de les porter continuellement fait qu’ils deviennent presque une extension du corps de la femme.
Beaucoup d’hypothèses ont été émises par les anthropologues sur la raison du port de ces colliers-spirales. Ce pourrait être pour se protéger contre les morsures de tigres ; pour rendre les femmes moins attrayantes aux yeux des autres tribus afin qu’elles ne se marient pas en dehors de la leur ou qu’elles ne soient pas prises en esclavage ; pour leur donner une ressemblance avec un dragon (qui est une figure importante du folklore kayan) mais la plupart de ces hypothèses ne sont pas vérifiées et la véritable origine de cette tradition reste encore un mystère.(D'après Wikipedia)
Une des polémiques récurrentes à propos de ces femmes consiste à voir dans les villages qui les regroupent des "zoo humains" Je ne prétends pas apporter une réponse définitive à la question mais j'y ai, pour ma part, vu des femmes sereines et souriantes, vivant en famille et se livrant à des travaux artisanaux dont elles vendent le produit aux touristes, en même temps que leur image, ce qui ne me parait pas dégradant. Réfugiées en Thaïlande pour des raisons politiques, elles semblent mener ici, si on fait abstraction des problèmes dus au déracinement, une vie qui me semble bien plus enviable que beaucoup de Thaïlandais que j'ai pu croiser dans les campagnes ou dans les grandes villes.

The first time I set foot on Wellingborough was in the early 80s while working in North London. On a day trip to Chesterfield, I stopped off between trains and captured this Rat with a single GUV. Today I visited the same spot for the first time since and captured a 222. Apart from the change in the interest level of the passing hardware, little else has changed. A new footbridge and lift towers, a few missing chimney pots and a lick of paint … and of course … the knitting!
