Candid eye contact street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. It's obvious what caught my eye for this shot on the first properly warm day in the city this year. There was quite a mix of summer and winter clothing on the street but some people were out in, what I would consider if I wore it, underwear! Enjoy!

When the streets of the city are your home, when you are solely responsible for your own safety while other children are tucked safely at home, when your survival is depending entirely on the kindness of others...
These piercing eyes belong to one of the 300, 000 children that call the streets of the cities in Congo their home. "les enfants de la rue" ~ the children of the street, wild eyed, witty, emotionally fragile, hard shelled, untrusting... the sad product of a humanity gone wrong. But still the strength in them and the hope in their eyes could not be missed.
I met these children in a center in Kinshasa that offers them lessons, food, daytime shelter and guidance where needed. They sang to me, drew messages on the blackboard for me to photograph and sang me their national anthem in a most rhythmic excellence which I filmed and will share in a future post.

Kirsty joined us at a small group shoot in Meridian, Idaho in August 2021; unfortunately she was on her lunch back so she was only there briefly. What a bummer. My camera loves shooting Kirsty - she brings her A Game to each shoot. Spot on make-up, great attitude, and I just noticed she has awesome legs too. Fortunately we have more shoots planned in the future!

An unrecorded Class 43 locomotive pulls into platform 1 at London Paddington station, possibly with the empty coaching stock for 1C89, the 16:33 London Paddington to Exeter St Davids service on Friday 13th October 2017. Meanwhile on platform 3, sister locomotive No. 43124 has just arrived with 1A21, the 14:30 service from Bristol Temple Meads.

Since I uploaded this image today my Flickr photostream has passed the five million views mark - thanks everyone for your continued interest and support.
You can see by the background, this girl was in the crowd. It was for one of the performances in the Bath Fringe Festival. She had a lot of piercings in her ear and a couple in her nose. Her whole dress and demeanour seemed to be of the grunge sort of look, but still a pretty girl.

180 odd shots aimlessly fired off tonight before I arrived at this one. I was faffing about shining lights through this sheet metal with holes in before I thought I should stick it in front of the lens instead. A few shots fired off until I managed to align my eyes with a couple of holes.
Lit with 2 bare flashes on 1/2 power from either side.
This is number 294 of my 366.
This morning was filled with a dark light if any over the grand Lake Superior making it look and feel very ominous. It was still very beautiful, but also very humbling as we felt so very small in the scale of it all.
Austin is known for its wild and crazy 6th street. This body piercing place attracts many an ill-advised visit after a long night of ill-advised drinking! Actually, I think body-piercings are cool, so I wish more people would be ill-advised.

Those of you that are portrait photographers can probably relate when I say that there is something oddly intimate about photographing and then processing an image of someone. I'm often struck by it, particularly when it is someone that I know. Today's high resolution lenses and camera sensors render ever pore, every imperfection. I've sometimes been struck by a moment of melancholy as I process a portrait of a friend and realize that the signs of aging that I overlook in everyday life are there. It is strange, too, to process this image. I was going for a very intent, direct look right into the camera. No warmth in the photo, just intensity, as that suited the type of lighting and mood I was shooting for. It is somewhat strange to look so closely into your own eyes, and draw conclusions about yourself. The piercing nature of this shot affects me...and maybe you can relate to something that I've shared, too.
