Our neighbour's cat the other day.
I spotted him on the post, so after grabbing my camera, I crept closer and closer, taking the odd photo. All the while, he kept staring at me. Eventually he got bored of my antics and jumped down.

A Marine MARSOC unit advances into the face of the unknown...
Advancing, though we know not the peril we may face.
Darkness.
It hides, trapping objects and beings in it's choking mist.
Always coveting what it cannot have.
Ever trying to regain lost ground.
Stealing our humanity, grinding us down.
In the depths it cries aloud, "ALL IS MINE".
It's thirst for blood, unquenchable.
It reaches out and snares the timid, the simple, the blind.
They go to the edges of the depths, they know not the danger they face.
Like the lion, it's stillness is peaceful.
They are drawn to it's strength.
They are captivated by its power.
They fall to it's clutches, and in their frailty, blow away like chaff in the wind.
But even though the darkness has power over the weak.
It has no chance against...
The Light.
The warmth He grants us.
The strength He gives us.
The light advances, and the darkness shrivels away.
It cannot shield itself from...
The Light.

Ok, I'd be a liar if I said www.flickr.com/photos/129897679@N05/ didn't inspired this. I wanted a MOC to show off the APC I built, and I think it turned out great.
Creds to Yitzy for the awesome gas/water barrel design.
GOD BLESS & AND HAVE A GREAT LIFE!!!

It's nice when a plan comes together.
On a couple of previous early morning trips to the fen I had noticed this male Marsh Harrier enjoying the sunrise on this perch - on the farside of the river at its widest point (or course).
As I couldn't get any closer without a boat I decided to take the 800mm + 1.4 hoping that he would be there again.
On arrival I could see he was there - but mist was hanging over the river so I stood behind a bush waiting for it to lift.
Once it cleared I had a couple of minutes before he flew off. On a previous occasion I had stood there for a good 20 minutes, so don't think it was my presence that made him leave, he had probably finished his morning ritual of stretching and preening - and it was time for breakfast.
Ability of light to pierce through the space is very nice to catch on a photo. Yet it creates a contrast that can easily turn to overburn. I'm dealing with that art my whole photo-life and never really get the grasp on it. The light is burning through my space and my lenses. I must try a neutral density filter someday. But I always remember that AFTER the photoshoot, haha...

CSXT train Q364 (Avon Yard, Indiana to Selkirk manifest) pierces the morning fog as it passes old New York Central Tower 30 just east of Union Station near MP 237.5 on modern day CSXT's Mohawk Sub mainline. I'm not sure when the tower was built, but presumably between 1912-1914 in conjunction with the new station. I have no idea when it closed but I understand it served as a yard office in the early Conrail era but is now derelict.
Leading the train is CSXT 8903 an EMD SD70AH-T4 blt. in 2019.

I’m not sure if I caught this Tufted Duck (Aythya fuligula) by surprise or if it was just naturally suspicious of my presence but it sure gave me a look.

As the evening flights pierce the evening sky the setting sun lights up the clouds and the Barley field. This field has now been harvested I think they made it just before the rains came back today, again.

The appearance of daylight often heralds the departure of both mist and mystery from a shadowed morning scene, and so it was a short while later here--but for these few minutes, this beautiful light streaming into the mist added a great deal more atmosphere than the shadows alone, on Pine Island Pond, near Uncertain, Texas.
On our recent trip to explore and photograph some of the southern swamplands, Josh Krasner and I arrived a day early and joined our excellent boatsman, John Winn, for a pre-dawn excursion on one of his small flat-bottomed swamp boats that are perfect for exploring the bayous in the greater Caddo Lake area. It was much, much colder than we expected being this far south--about 24 degrees F when we got on the boat. The frigid air turned out to be ideal for misty conditions although not exactly for comfort as the boat quickly plied the waters of Big Cypress Bayou toward locations where we could drift closely among the great trees and their moss canopies.
It was incredible from the first moment seeing this environment shrouded in billowing mist and grayscale shadows rich in mood, but when this early light started streaming between the tightly packed trunks, it was truly special.
Thanks for viewing!

by popular request, I uploaded this one as it's own.
so, I'm all packing and stuff, because I leave to drive across the country for college in 3 days.
I can't hardly believe it! I'm going to miss everyone out here in Colorado so much.
and I'm kind of nervous, picture wise.
I'm going to be minoring in Photography at school, and the book for the class is so super easy, it's not even funny. chapter one is basics, like how to put your memory card in your camera. so I'm not concerned about my ability, but more of how much artistic liberties I'm going to be able to take.
I'm not going to school for Photography, otherwise I would have picked a more intense school photography wise, I'm going for Biblical Counseling. so the main thing is, I dont know how much they're going to want me to do things "by the book" there for Photography, and so anyways...
long story short, I have no idea how much more or how often I'll be posting to Flickr. I'll have to wait and see how that whole photo class goes. cause it's not like I'm going to have a lot of privacy to take self portraits in my dorm room! =P
so... I'm a little nervous about all of that that I just typed, which probably doesn't even make sense. not majorly concerned, but I had to explain my thought process at least a little bit.
and I sent out most of the prints! so keep an eye on your mail. ;)

A macro shot of my cactus.
Amazing what the surface tension of water is able to do. One would expect the drop to just flow away.
I took this capture with my good old Nikon D7000 and the stunning Tokina 100mm macro. I think this lense is even better than the Nikon 105mm macro (in terms of sharpness).
It is just a pity that the Tokina is not internally focused. The tube extends quite a bit while focusing. Thats a bit of a problem for me when I want to use my Metz M-15 macro flash. The flash is attached to the filter thread of the lense and extends with the tube while focusing. At least the whole setup does not rotate ;-)
Twenty minutes past sunset on a very pleasant Saturday, June 1, 2024 evening, a BNSF baretable train charges through Pierce City, MO on its journey west from Memphis to Los Angeles.
I couldn't believe how close this Northern Harrier hen came to me. This was the last photograph before she was too close to keep in the viewfinder. I love her piercing eye contact! Shot at f8, 1/6400s, ISO 2500, 200-500mm@500mm
For the last few weeks I've been sorting through older photos, deleting the duplicates and bad ones, and trying to better organize the rest. In the process I've come across photos I'd never edited or shared, including this one taken all the way back in 2009. I was a total beginner back then, with my Nikon D90 and 70-300 f/4.5-5.6. I got some really nice photos with that combination, including this one.
But back then I didn't always understand why a photo turned out well, so I had a difficult time getting good photos consistently. And I shot everything in JPEG and never did any post-processing because why would I need to do that? Haha! Let's just say I've learned a whole lot since those early days. But this is still one of my favorite images,.
