Whilst participating in Work Experience within the Photographic Section at R.A.F Waddington, I got the opportunity to go and take photograph’s of the firemen testing a new foam pump they had recently got. I was fifteen at the time and I got to use this enormous camera with a large heavy lens, which I had trouble holding up as I had never used anything like this before, seeing as I have an Olympus E-400. It was initially bought as a starter camera for me at the time, however I still use it today. It is a very light camera and has a small body, so in comparison I felt I was using a ‘real professionals’ camera. I was asked to take ‘dramatic’ photo’s of the firemen and I think I managed to achieve this.
I went to four different playgrounds and chose three that I actually liked and I felt like the raindrops and the dirt really sold it to me. and the angle of each .
This was a personal photo and have waited a full year to finally capture it.

“Since I came to Canada, I have never seen a new immigrant in higher positions. Little by little, some are making it as professors and administrative staff. Where you can see many new immigrants at the university is in the service industry (janitors, cooks, fast food). I am not ashamed to say that is how I started. Before teaching, I was a waiter and then a janitor. I see myself in those who are working in fast food restaurants, cleaning floors, as administrative assistants because many of them are also university students. Like me, they are not giving up.” Leonzo Barreno is from Guatemala and has been living in Canada for decades. I'm moving January 9 to Richmond VA.
"I have been applying to multiple jobs. I meet all the qualifications, in fact most times I am over qualified but I never tend to be the 'right' candidate. I always get to the interview phase but I just never receive call after the interview. I am not sure what it is. I have a masters in journalism with a few years experience and I'm in the middle of finishing a second masters in Women and Gender Studies. I am struggling a lot to find a professional job. It seems like as an international student, people just expect you to work at fast food restaurants and I refuse to do that because there is a reason I am working so hard at school, it's to have a better future. I feel like as an immigrant I constantly have to prove myself to others and that is exhausting." Sumaira Alwani is from Pakistan. She has been living in Canada for close to three years as an international student.
