In Rabbit Valley, located in the McInnis Canyons National Conservation Area, the primary activities are motorcycle and ATV riding, and camping, while there are also opportunities for mountain biking.Trails are marked with permitted activities. There are three campgrounds: Jouflas, Castle Rocks, and Knowles Overlook. Dispersed camping is allowed ONLY in designated sites, which are numbered and signed. A fire-pan and a portable toilet are required for dispersed camping.

In late October 2013 I made a trip out to the Eden Landing Ecological Reserve to take photographs documenting the levee between Salt Ponds E9 and E14 before Save the Bay starts a project to establish vegetation along the levee. I photographed this levee in 2011, not long after it was reconstructed. The most noticeable change in the last two years is the transformation of Salt Ponds E9 and E8X to the south of the levee as they acquire natural colors and textures associated with their reconnection to tidal flow.
The session also afforded my first look at a large scale project reconfiguring Salt Ponds E12 and E13 into a series of smaller managed ponds. This construction project is in full swing as the "cradle of San Francisco's salt industry" goes through yet another transformation.
I am taking these documentary photographs under a Special Use Permit from the California Department of Fish & Wildlife. Kite flying is prohibited over the Eden Landing Ecological Reserve without a Special Use Permit, as is access to this part of the Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge.

Well, the venue doesn't permit cameras but they were cool with cell phone cams - so these are as good as they get.
Daughtry opened - excellent show - worked the crowd well - gave it his all. Sound was a bit rough in the arena... not sure if it's the venue or my old ears?
Bon Jovi - excellent, too. One of the first things my wife noticed was that my inner-keyboard-geek was showing because, while everyone else was screaming for Jon on stage... I was intently watching one of my favorite keyboard players (David Bryan) and taking it all in. I like his style, was ID'ing the gear in his keyboard rig, watching technique, and generally equally thrilled to be seeing him as much as the concert in general.
Great eye-candy elements to the show as well... the screens were impressive and did way more than I thought they could (separating, turning, rotating, twisting, etc.) and brought a lot to the party.
Speaking of parties... nothing sadder than a couple of drunk 40-something women reliving every MTV concert video they saw from the 80's. A beer in each hand and sunglasses. Seriously.

La estrategia Cosechando Agua Guanajuato promueve prácticas sustentables que permiten reducir hasta 60% el trabajo y 25% los costos, mientras se aumenta 35% la rentabilidad en la producción de granos y leguminosas en las zonas de temporal de Guanajuato. Los ejes fundamentales de la estrategia —promovida por el Centro Internacional de Mejoramiento de Maíz y Trigo (CIMMYT) y la SDAyR, a través de MasAgro Guanajuato— son la conservación del suelo y un mejor aprovechamiento del agua de lluvia.
Debido a que la agricultura de temporal depende de la lluvia del ciclo primavera-verano, las condiciones del suelo y los cultivos óptimos, entre otros factores, la estrategia fomenta la comprensión amplia de los diversos climas, suelos y plantas cultivadas. Cosechando Agua Guanajuato surge de Reto Rastrojo, otra estrategia impulsada por el equipo del CIMMYT en aquella entidad. En su enfoque, es fundamental realizar una planeación del ciclo de lluvias con base en propuestas sustentables y prácticas para implementar procesos de acondicionamiento y suplementación de humedad y nutrientes.
Los pilares de la estrategia son la Agricultura de Conservación, que fomenta el aprovechamiento de los residuos sobre la superficie cultivada, la rotación de cultivos y el mínimo movimiento del suelo; la labranza en banda, que se refiere al movimiento vertical de suelo sobre la línea de siembra; la rotura vertical, para una adecuada compactación de la tierra; y las curvas de nivel, que reducen la erosión del suelo y aumentan la retención de agua en terrenos de ladera.
Como complemento a estos pilares, la estrategia promueve el Manejo Agroecológico de Plagas, el Manejo Integrado de Malezas, la optimización de la fertilidad de los suelos, la selección de las variedades de semillas más adecuadas y la implementación de mejores prácticas para el manejo poscosecha de granos básicos, entre otros aspectos. De esta manera, la estrategia permite a los productores implementar prácticas particularmente útiles en zonas con lluvias irregulares, temperaturas extremas y suelos áridos o con otras limitantes físicas, químicas y biológicas.
Las propuestas de intervención que complementan a estos pilares son los siguientes:
I. Manejo agroecológico de plagas
Feromonas para el control de plagas.
Monitoreo de plagas en campo (determinación de umbral económico).
Tratamientos de semillas (uso de micorrizas y Azospirillum en maíz y sorgo, Trichoderma en frijol y garbanzo).
Uso de la biodiversidad funcional (enemigos naturales).
II. Manejo integral de malezas
Uso de herbicidas preemergentes.
Identificación y monitoreo de malezas en campo.
Control mecánico.
Control químico (calibración de equipo de aspersión, boquilla adecuada, acondicionamiento del agua, dosis adecuada, etapa adecuada del cultivo, entre otros).
III. Fertilidad de suelos (física, química, biológica)
Recomendación de mezclas y fuentes con base en análisis de suelo y meta de rendimiento.
Abonos orgánicos como fuente de nutrientes (compostas, estiércoles, lixiviados, abonos orgánicos fermentados)
Aplicación del fertilizante en momentos adecuados (con uso de las curvas de demanda de los cultivos).
Biofertilizantes como fuente de nutrientes.
Enmiendas de suelo.
Forma de aplicación del fertilizante para optimizar su efectividad: enterrado manual, enterrada mecánica, enterrada con yunta y foliar.
IV. Semillas mejoradas
Mejoramiento de criollos.
Variedades adecuadas mejoradas (incluye polinización abierta (OPV) maíz).

This is the first of a few images from a recent trip to Southern Utah. In case you don't know, it was actually taken just inside the border of Arizona (the hike begins in Utah and you eventually cross the border into Arizona), in the Coyotte Buttes area. It's a three-mile hike one way, which would have been much easier if I was actually in shape. But it was well worth it. In order to protect this area they only give permits to 20 people (or dogs) each day, and ten of those have to be reserved months in advance. I was EXTREMELY lucky to get a permit that day for me and my wife because there were 55 other people trying to get one of the ten remaining for that day. They have a lottery every morning. It was a close call - our number was the last to be drawn.
Anyway, this is my take on the formation often referred to as the Second Wave.

Permit Fly
Permit are a much sought after prize, on the tropical flats. and are known to be notoriously difficult to catch, on any pattern, and Mauro Genevri is a hardcore Permit fly fisherman, who worked tirelessly for a number of years in his quest to develop a fly, that would consistently catch Permit.
After many disappointments, and much experimentation experimental failures he finally came up with a novel, albeit deadly type fly, incorporating one or two applications, rarely if ever seen on other patterns.
The fly had its birth in 2009, but only really became known in early 2011, when it took the various fishing destinations of Cuba by storm, quickly becoming the absolute numero uno Permit fly throughout the Island. During 2011, it accounted for almost 75% of all Permit recorded at the destinations managed by the Avalon Company, and being previously unnamed, was thus christened The Avalon Fly.
The Avalon fly has continued to enjoy enormous success since its introduction, and while it would be foolish for anyone to state that any fly pattern designed to catch Permit, was a "No Fail Fly" there is no doubt that the Avalon Fly has helped the Cuban fishing centres increase their respective recorded catches of this species by almost 35% over the last couple of years, and is now beginning to have a real impact in other locations.
The main difference from other Permit flies, is the way the weighting is implemented. By looping 4 silver beads on a piece of mono, hanging underneath the fly, Mauro developed a pattern that swims horizontal in the water, at the same time adding a rattle effect to the fly. Unlike standard patterns, with mainly heavy eyes for weighting, which results in a jigging motion, the horizontal swimming pattern also makes Mauro's fly less prone to dive into weeds, thus out of sight.
The Avalon Permit Fly, is a shrimp imitating pattern, rather than the more commonly used crab imitations, using a different approach to imitate the shrimps claws, with short lengths of rabbit zonker, and has quickly become the MUST have pattern for any serious Permit fisher.

Gila River Indian Community Governor Stephen Roe Lewis hosted the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Los Angeles District for a public hearing regarding the Arizona Department of Transportation's permit request under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act May 9. District Commander Col. Kirk Gibbs and Regulatory Project Manager Jesse Rice explained the forum's ground rules and the Corps' permitting process. Junior cuenta con un grupo de amigos del colegio, diariamente gusta de practicar poco deporte, utiliza mucho el celular, pasa mucho tiempo en la computadora, ve televisión y tiene un reproductor de mp3 y esta al día con las novedades vanguardistas y tecnológicas.
Seguido Junior gusta de pasar tiempo en su cuarto, ya que es el espacio donde más a gusto se siente y normalmente no platica mucho con sus papas debido a sus estrictos horarios de trabajo, sin embargo es un muchacho saludable mentalmente y moralmente.

Es de estilo románico, de transición al gótico. Su singularidad estriba en adelantarse a su tiempo en la construcción de una "girola" (especie de galería semicircular que rodea el altar mayor y permite pasar por detrás de él), algo inusual en aquella época en los monasterios femeninos.

The 2019 Senior Regional Reduced Fare Permit Pilot Program (RRFP) helped educate seniors from North and South Seattle how to ride transit with their RRFP cards. Participating senior centers include South Park Seniors, Lake City Seniors, Asian Counseling Referral Services (ACRS), and International Drop-in Center IDIC.
These photographs mark the first KAP session under my 2011-2012 salt pond permits. I have just recently completed my status report from last year and, more importantly, the nesting season is winding down. It is nice to be out in this landscape again.
The Eden Landing Ecological Reserve is located on the edge of San Francisco Bay just south of the East Bay approach to the San Mateo Bridge. The center of the preserve is Mt. Eden Creek, a waterway that journalist Jon Sandoval once called the “cradle of the Bay Area salt industry.” The area does hold intriguing traces of many 19th Century salt works. It is also home to a series of interesting contemporary projects as the California Department of Fish and Game manages initiatives to restore habitat, provide recreation and control flooding as part of the South Bay Salt Pond Restoration Project.
The photographs in this series were taken over the eastern end of the preserve, above Mt. Eden Creek Marsh and North Creek Marsh, both recent wetland restoration projects. These lands were quite barren a few years ago and have recently been returned to tidal flow (North Creek Marsh in 2006, Mt. Eden Creek Marsh in 2008). The landscape continues its transition with levee construction currently underway and a new set of levee breaches in the coming months. It is fun to capture the changes as they occur and the old textures before they disappear.
I am taking these documentary photographs under a Special Use Permit from the California Department of Fish & Game. Kite flying is prohibited over the Eden Landing Ecological Reserve without a Special Use Permit, as is access to this part of the Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge.
