If time permits, then any trip to the Basque Country should include a visit to Gaztelugatxe. It's a 'must-see' destination. Gaztelugatxe - which means 'Castle Rock' in the Basque language (“gaztelu” = castle + “aitz” = rock) - is an island located just off the shore along the Bay of Biscay, 35 km east of the provincial capital, Bilbao. The island is cone-shaped and is connected to the mainland by a man-made bridge. On top of the island stands a hermitage (named Gaztelugatxeko Doniene in Basque; San Juan de Gaztelugatxe in Spanish), dedicated to John the Baptist dating from the 10th century, although discoveries indicate that the date might even be the 9th century.
The hermitage/church is by no means original; having been burnt down and rebuilt several times over the centuries. In the 12th century, it became a convent. However, two centuries later, the friars abandoned it taking with them everything of value.
The main starting point for the walk to Gaztelugaxe is a large restaurant/parking/picnic area on top of the cliffs overlooking the island. There are two paths down to the shoreline, which both provide spectacular views. Once at the man-made bridge, the route transitions into a narrow path made up of 241 steps zigzagging their way back and forth up to the hermitage at the summit. According to legend, after completing the climb, visitors should ring the bell, hanging on the outside of the building, three times and make a wish. The walk back up the hill beckons but - no matter - the round-trip will have been quite exhilarating!

Texcoco, Edo. Méx.- Los problemas de nutrición en el mundo van en aumento. La estimación más reciente —correspondiente a 2018— de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas (ONU) indica que alrededor de 821 millones de personas en todo el planeta están subalimentadas. Es decir, una de cada nueve personas no consume una cantidad suficiente de energía alimentaria que satisfaga sus necesidades para llevar una vida activa y saludable.
Aunque en el caso de México la prevalencia de la subalimentación es de alrededor de 5% —siendo de 13% el promedio de los países en desarrollo—, los problemas de nutrición persisten y se han vuelto complejos. Actualmente, existe más de una forma de malnutrición, desde la obesidad hasta la carencia o insuficiencia de micronutrientes (vitaminas y minerales).
De acuerdo con la Comisión EAT-Lancet —en la que participan reconocidos científicos junto con representantes de los sectores público y privado relacionados con la producción de alimentos y la salud humana—, la problemática de la nutrición requiere reorientar la producción agrícola para focalizarla en la elaboración de alimentos más saludables y de mayor calidad. Lograr la seguridad nutricional poniendo énfasis en la calidad de los alimentos beneficiaría adicionalmente la salud del planeta.
¿Cómo pueden las dietas más saludables reducir el impacto ambiental? Si se implementan prácticas agrícolas más eficientes y sustentables, se puede producir más y de mejor calidad con menos recursos, disminuyendo también la deforestación para la expansión de las tierras de cultivo. Esto es relevante en un contexto en el que el aumento de la población exige, y exigirá, cada vez más alimentos.
Sin embargo, para reorientar la producción agrícola, producir alimentos de mejor calidad y reducir los problemas nutricionales y ambientales, hacen falta sinergias y estrategias que involucren y beneficien a todos los actores de las cadenas de valor de los cultivos fundamentales para la dieta y la nutrición en México y el mundo, como el maíz.
El proyecto Apoyo al Abastecimiento Responsable en México —de la Compañía Kellogg y el Centro Internacional de Mejoramiento de Maíz y Trigo (CIMMYT)— es una iniciativa para mitigar y favorecer la adaptación a los efectos del cambio climático en el campo, así como para brindar mayores oportunidades a productores mexicanos que demuestran competitividad global y calidad de su producción.
Este proyecto —que actualmente opera en Guanajuato y Sinaloa— fomenta el desarrollo de sistemas agroalimentarios no solamente enfocados en el volumen, sino también en la calidad y la nutrición. Como consecuencia de la implementación de prácticas agrícolas sustentables, el proyecto también contribuye a la salud del medioambiente.
En el ciclo agrícola otoño-invierno 2018-19, por ejemplo, los productores del proyecto Apoyo al Abastecimiento Responsable en México eliminaron por completo el uso de agroquímicos de uso restringido. Adicionalmente, el número de aplicaciones y la cantidad de productos admitidos también se redujeron considerablemente (aproximadamente dos terceras partes). Esto incide directamente en la calidad e inocuidad de los alimentos y confirma que, con una Agricultura Sustentable, es posible mejorar la nutrición y la salud no sólo de los consumidores, sino también de los operadores agrícolas.
Una producción sustentable requiere verificar que los agricultores realicen cambios que no sólo beneficien al medioambiente, sino también a sus utilidades, y que esto suceda de forma sostenida en el tiempo. Tras dos ciclos de operación, este proyecto ha demostrado que, si bien los ingresos totales pueden ser similares a los que se obtienen mediante la producción convencional, las prácticas de sustentabilidad suponen ahorros importantes en los costos productivos, lo cual se traduce en utilidades al menos 10% mayores para el productor.
Trabajar por una alimentación más sana, nutritiva y suficiente mediante la producción sustentable es también promover el cuidado de los ecosistemas. El proyecto Apoyo al Abastecimiento Responsable en México es un ejemplo de cómo la ciencia y la responsabilidad social pueden ofrecer soluciones clave para la humanidad.

Declaración de EAJ-PNV con motivo del Día Internacional de las Mujeres.
La igualdad es un Derecho Humano que toda sociedad que se denomine o considere democrática debe respetar, ejercer e impulsar. La igualdad permite que tanto mujeres como hombres puedan desarrollar todas sus capacidades y tomar sus decisiones sin limitaciones impuestas por estereotipos de género. En consecuencia, la desigualdad de género representa una de las principales amenazas que, como sociedad avanzada, debemos afrontar y erradicar.
Avanzada ya la segunda década del siglo XXI, debemos volcar todos los esfuerzos, recursos e instrumentos a nuestra mano en la urgentísima tarea de poner fin a la violencia machista. Debemos, para ello, redoblar e intensificar la labor de concienciación social con el rechazo a la violencia contra las mujeres, especialmente entre las generaciones más jóvenes y entre el colectivo de los hombres, haciendo un especial hincapié en el origen de esta barbarie: la desigualdad entre hombres y mujeres.
La participación equilibrada de mujeres y hombres en la toma de decisiones es un requisito previo en cualquier sociedad democrática avanzada. Así se afirma en la Carta Europea para la Igualdad de mujeres y hombres en la vida local. En ella se insta a que los Gobiernos tomen las medidas y adopten las estrategias necesarias para promover una representación y una participación equilibradas de mujeres y hombres en todos los ámbitos de decisión.
En EAJ-PNV creemos que el desarrollo de Euskadi solo se puede construir sobre la igualdad de oportunidades, y de un modo especial desde la equiparación de oportunidades y condiciones laborales entre hombres y mujeres. Por ello, todos nuestros esfuerzos han de encaminarse a garantizar la igualdad de oportunidades reales entre todas las personas. El compromiso de EAJ-PNV es impulsar la igualdad y la identidad como principales elementos sobre los que edificar un proyecto sólido de convivencia. Nuestra apuesta es decidida en favor de la igualdad de oportunidades, del empoderamiento de las mujeres y del respeto a la diversidad como motor del equilibrio social y de solidaridad.
En EAJ-PNV sabemos muy bien de qué hablamos cuando reivindicamos la labor que las mujeres pueden y deben desempeñar en la construcción de un futuro más humano, más justo, más habitable. No en vano, las mujeres han tenido un papel fundamental en la historia de este pueblo, Euskadi, y en la trayectoria de este partido, fundado en 1895. Antes, durante y después de la Guerra Civil, en la clandestinidad y en la democracia, las afiliadas y las simpatizantes de EAJ-PNV han hecho un trabajo ingente, impagable, casi siempre a la sombra y pocas veces reconocido en su justa medida. Hoy afirmamos con convicción y solemnidad que nuestro partido no se entendería hoy sin el esfuerzo y el trabajo de las mujeres que lo han integrado en el pasado y de las que lo integran en el presente. Por ello, el pasado sábado rendimos en Sabin Etxea un emotivo homenaje y un merecido reconocimiento a todas estas mujeres, a las que ayer fueron, a los que hoy son y a las que, gracias a todas ellas, mañana serán.
Por todo ello, las mujeres y los hombres que integramos EAJ-PNV queremos hoy, 8 de marzo de 2017, renovar estos nuestros compromisos:
Seguir dando pasos firmes hacia la consecución de una igualdad real y efectiva entre mujeres y hombres, fomentando el cambio de valores que nos permita avanzar en este sentido.
Concienciar a la ciudadanía del valor social de la igualdad y sus implicaciones de cara a conseguir una sociedad avanzada.
Formar en materia de Igualdad a las personas de EAJ-PNV que desempeñen tanto cargos públicos como internos.
Declarar la guerra a la violencia machista, cualquiera que sea su naturaleza, física o psicológica, presencial o virtual.
Para hacer visibles estos compromisos y para reivindicar una sociedad basada en la igualdad de derechos, las mujeres y los hombres que trabajamos en Sabin Etxea protagonizaremos esta mañana, a partir de las 11:30 horas, un parón diez minutos frente a la sede del Euzkadi Buru Batzar.
La práctica de actividades deportivas, permite mejorar la salud de la población, y entre otros elementos, avanzar en el reto que representa el combate a la obesidad infantil. El Gobernador Rafael Moreno Valle manifestó lo anterior al poner en operación oficialmente el Polideportivo Parque Ecológico, que se erigió con una inversión a 74 millones de pesos, en beneficio de un millón 754 mil habitantes y representa la segunda obra deportiva más importante en lo que va de su gestión Acompañado de los secretarios de Infraestructura y Contraloría, José Antonio Gali Fayad y Patricia Leal Islas, respectivamente, Moreno Valle subrayó que la ampliación de la infraestructura deportiva de Puebla capital, con obras como el Polideportivo y el estadio Universitario, aunadas a la realización de la Olimpiada Nacional, la eliminatoria Sub20 y el próximo mundial de Taekwondo, son muestra del compromiso asumido por la administración estatal para colocar a la entidad en el mapa deportivo. Moreno Valle reiteró su compromiso de fomentar el deporte entre la niñez y la juventud, a fin de alejarlos de la ociosidad, las adicciones y la delincuencia, para que crezcan personal y profesionalmente de una manera adecuada. De igual forma, permitirá consolidar a Puebla como uno de los estados más seguros del país, mediante el combate no sólo a los efectos de la delincuencia sino a sus causas y a fortalecer el tejido social generando opciones de sano desarrollo para las nuevas generaciones. Reconoció el trabajo del secretario de Infraestructura para construir este complejo deportivo en un tiempo récord de 8 meses, sin descuidar su calidad.

The art and other symbols on the walls may have been records kept by a scribe, Saturno theorizes. Saturno’s excavation and documentation of the house were supported by the National Geographic Society.

O Palácio é do século XV, pertencia a Francesco Abatellis, após sua morte e de sua esposa, transforma-se num Mosteiro. Atualmente, é a Galleria Regionale di Sicília.
Antonello di Messina (1430-1479), foi um dos maiores pintores do Renascimento italiano. Nativo da Sicília, trabalhou para os Sforza em Milão, foi contratado em Veneza, onde realiza uma das suas obras-primas: o “Retábulo de São Cassiano”, em 1476. Sentindo-se doente volta a Messina, sua terra natal, onde morre dias depois. Da sua obra não é exagero dizer, que a “Virgem da Anunciação” (1473), tem os mesmos créditos e admiração dados à “Mona Lisa” (1503) de Leonardo da Vinci.
No ano de 734 a.C., os Fenícios vindos de Tiro (cidade fenícia do Líbano), criaram no local uma Comunidade. Entre os séculos VIII e VI a.C., os gregos colonizaram a ilha e deram o nome de PANORMOS. Em 264-241 a.C., os romanos a conquistaram. Devido à sua posição geográfica, Sicília sempre teve um papel de importância nos eventos históricos que tiveram como protagonista os povos do Mediterrâneo. A vizinhança de múltiplas civilizações enriqueceu a Sicília de assentamentos urbanos, de monumentos, templos... Assim como Roma, Sicília é um Museu a céu aberto. Não é exagero dizer que há mais construções gregas na Sicília, do que em Atenas. Nos séculos 6º e 5º a.C., não havia muita diferença entre Atenas e as cidades gregas da Sicília, e ainda hoje, o grego é falado em alguns vilarejos da ilha. Há quem diga que há menos sangue italiano nas veias dos sicilianos do que fenício, grego, árabe, normando, espanhol ou francês. Essa mistura, exótica, provocante e altamente inflamável, criou uma nação à parte no pé da Itália. Estudiosos costumam dizer que para se entender a Itália, os italianos... precisa-se conhecer Sicília.
