There is something magical about Miyajima Island in Japan. The wild deer sit calmy right next to you as you photograph the amazing Floating Torii at this UNESCO World Heritage.
Nigella damascena (Love in the Mist)
Love in the Mist belongs to Ranunculales, the same plant family as the ‘Buttercup’. The flowers bloom in a variety of colours including white, pink and purple but it mainly blooms in different shades of blue. The plant produces seeds after the flowers bloom at the end of summer. If any of the plant is ingested, it can cause serious illness and may even cause death.
i went skydiving sunday afternoon.
the experience was intense.
really intense. great sex intense. wedding day intense. a powerful physical rush and a real life/death committment.
11000 feet. small single engine plane. four lane highways are only thick as yarn, large coastal islands off of Southport are the size of your fist, the runaway you lifted off from is about an inch long. the instructor yells CUT!! and the pilot turns off the engine. silence except for the inertia of wind on the wings at 80 mph. the door pops open, the wind roars at you as you step onto a foot long metal plate over the landing wheel outside the plane. 100 million years of good hardy reliable survival memes are also roaring at you to get back in the g'damn plane and live another day, but they cant compete with the wicked charm of a great new experience pulling you out on the that plate to see what the world looks like from a new vantage. the instructor rocks you forward and back...here it comes! and OUT!
imagine.
from 0 to 129 mph in scant seconds. falling nearly a mile downwards in a moment. the screaming rush of air pressure past you is deafening and powerful and godlike. its not the nightmarish vertigo of falling - where you are being pulled downwards with nothing underneath, flailing, falling end over end. its more like fighting your way victoriously through an enemy host - resolute but clashing.
then the rip cord is pulled. you slow a bit as the chute unfulrs - but then it deploys fully, catching the air, and it feels like you rocket upwards for 20 stories in 5 seconds. its a hella powerful rush. your body is coursing adrenaline, every sense receptor is fully processing every signal input. you are definitely alive, and completely intense.
then the slow dangling twirling lazy descent back onto terra firma...
66568 leads 4L87 09.31 Tees Dock - Felixstowe North across the flooded Welney Washes (between Manea and Ely). 66557 was on the rear, but out of sight in this picture.
This was the first outing for my new camera, named as though it were the mark 3 version of what I'd been using for almost the last eight years (the mark 2 version), but in reality a new camera as it has been upgraded in so many ways. I'd been working in Ely, so took my camera with me in anticipation of a session here at sunset. The sun was still some way above the horizon when this appeared, not long before 4pm, but it had dropped into the cloud on the horizon by the time the usual train for sunsets appeared (4E20 from Felixstowe, over twenty minutes later) and the sky had lost its colour.
Unfortunately, for some reason the battery had run down on my monitor and, although I managed to set up the pole and take a couple of test shots, the monitor kept switching off. So I decided to do the shots from ground level, something I rarely do here now. I photographed both front and rear locos, changing the angle for the latter to include the girder bridge but not the trees on the right. However, with no containers right at the front (there were plenty everywhere else, including at the back) and the loco fitting perfectly between the sun and the small tree, I much prefer this one - and it's slightly different from others I've uploaded.
Manipulation notes: none at all - not even any straightening, cropping, lightening or darkening, increasing (or decreasing) the contrast, or enhancing the colours: it's straight off the camera! I had, however, set the camera to under expose by 1.3 stops based on the meter reading.

reposted with Irith's cropping : ) thanks -- I couldn't resist shooting these again - the drip of ice is from the rain yesterday morning (its not warm anymore - yeah).
A frosty morning walk to the local farm shop, and I spotted the horse grazing in the field, I took another two steps to align him perfectly between the trees!
This is a beautiful phrase that I read when I was painting wood crafts, I think it is beautiful and perfectly represents what a teacher should do...
Again, I'm not proud of my writing, I don't like to work in a hurry.
It has been Photoshopped (well, there were 8 shots to stitch together), but there has been no air brushing...!!
A 3-4 metre Saltwater Crocodile sunning itself in the Daintree River. Perfectly deadly and prehistorically rady for action when warmed up!
There were fewer crocodiles than I expected but then again they are masters of stealth and movement in and under the water. So travellers beware!

I'm participating in Summer Japonica! This year, I'm wearing a yukata for the first time in two years.
The obi, hegoobi, and obijime are removable. The mesh has been fine-tuned so it may not fit perfectly, but you can also use the obi from the yukata we sold in the Gacha before 😀 You can change the color of the hegoobi and obijime.
Please enjoy your summer yukata life by combining the obi, hegoobi and obijime to your liking (●´Å)
The DEMO is a HUD. Please put it on and receive the pattern you want to DEMO by touch.

Perfectly safe I heard, well it doesn't appear that way from this viewpoint. Breakers rolling off the Pacific in California.
Doesn't this little Eastern Screech-Owl look like she just came from the salon; styled to the max. One of my favorite sounds is the trill of this diminutive owl coming from the trees at night.
Taken at the Stillman Nature Center.
Being tucked away just out of decent photo range, I'd never found a reason to shoot the SLRG 520, an ex-BN commuter locomotive. Today a BN geep was spotted just perfectly for a nose to nose meeting of these classic cascades.
A perfectly shaped yellow banana neatly stuck to a wall with a precision cut piece of duck tape neatly anchoring the banana at opposing 45 degree angles, this is art. Ok my narrative was embellished some what but this so called piece of art sold for £4.9 million! This world is plagued with poverty, suffering, homelessness and starvation and somebody is spending £4.9 million on a fecking piece of comically shaped fruit. It’s all quiet apt given that the buyer made is fortune on crypto currency that would disappear into nothing with the demise of the internet, of course thats not going happen, right! I can’t shake the feeling that this world is plunging into darkness, as is this stream recently captured in Buttermere.

Candid street portrait, with some lovely eye contact, taken in Glasgow, Scotland. I was just hoping that a suitably interesting character would step into the gorgeous sliver of sunlight as I slowly hobbled along Argyle Street. When I saw this man I just had to time the shot for that light, I loved the perfectly trimmed curve of his beard that frames his face so well in the light.
