I came across this solitary female lion as she was staking out a hiding place in the Selous National Park, Tanzania. Perfectly camouflaged in the tall grasses, she was lying in wait for a herd of zebras who would eventually have to pass near her ambush site in order to reach the watering hole. She alternated between a state of intense focus on the zebras (see next photo) and a state of sleepy lolling about in the hot afternoon sun (as seen here, yawning).
She was approximately two months pregnant, due to give birth in a month. Females must give birth away from males, who eat the cubs.

Not perfectly in focus on the eye, but I like this image overall.

Taking advantage of a perfectly clear evening I drove up to the Portland area after work hoping to get a couple shots. First up was POED in Scarborough then I headed to South Portland to wait for RUPO to arrive. Unfortunately the dreaded MEC 383 (patched GATX paint) was the middle unit which necessitated setting up for a straight on telephoto. The train has just hit land on the South Portland side of the Fore River and is passing CPF 198, affectionately known as the "oil plant". In roughly a mile the train will be at Tower PT at the east end of Rigby Yard.

Elias strolled down Greywater Street, his breath curling in the thick morning fog. He passed an umbrella, black, sturdy, perfectly motionless, suspended upright in the middle of the road. He stepped around it without a second glance.
Further along, another umbrella stood just outside the bakery. A third lingered near the post office. As he reached the tram stop, he found a woman adjusting the angle of a red umbrella, hanging just beside the bench. She tugged at its curved handle, then stepped back to inspect it.
“Excuse me,” Elias said, nodding at the umbrella. “Having problems?”
She glanced at him, then back at the umbrella. “Oh no, not at all. It was slightly off-centre, so I fixed it.”
Elias nodded approvingly. He hated it when they hung unevenly. He looked down the street. The umbrellas dotted the road at their usual intervals, none crowding doorways, none interfering with foot traffic.
Elias checked his watch. He had just enough time to grab a coffee before work. He passed another umbrella. It hadn't been there yesterday. New arrival, he thought. It was straight, well-balanced. No need to fuss with it.
At the café, the barista handed him his coffee. “How are things?” she asked.
“Fine,” Elias said. He took a sip. “Quite a few brollies out today.”
She smiled. “Yes. It’s the weather. We’re expecting rain soon.”

Well here goes nothing! I am finally sharing my favourite shot of 2015. A sprawling panorama of the Milkyway arching over a setting moon. This type of shot needs to be timed perfectly as there are very few nights of the year that it would be possible and I was so proud of myself when I managed to capture it! I really hope you enjoy it and it would make me so happy if this was shared, liked and commented on and even more so if a print was purchased! I personally think it would look AMAZING! nikon D750 and sigma 24-70mm 2.8

I stole this idea from dollie-mama when I saw this picture www.flickr.com/photos/28787424@N05/15487301032/in/faves-2... I loved her little bottles, so I decided to make some for myself. The size works perfectly with Re-ment & they fit very nicely on the spice rack from the Asian Market set.
A perfectly timed Nashotah meet arranged by the Canadian Pacific dispatcher between a westbound UP powered 583 train and eastbound 286 had to be appreciated by the crews of both trains as I don’t think that 286 ever came to a complete stop here on this February 22nd, 2020. ~~ A Jeff Hampton Photograph ©
The sky overhead was perfectly clear. In fact, we were experiencing a sunny high pressure system that brought cold arctic air to our area. The temperature this morning was -25C (with a light breeze the wind chill was -30C). Under these condition water evaporates readily to form steam but almost immediately condenses as frost on surrounding structures, or forms tinny ice crystals in the air. A cloud is born.
