SY 1581 arrives with the afternoon slag train full of hot metal as we rushed alongside on foot to catch it, not knowing where it would stop.
You can see electric motors at the front of the cars under the movable shield which are plugged in on-site when the train stops - you might note a cable snaking across the ground in the next (previous) pic.

It is fair to say I am exceptionally pleased with this shot!
The rain had left a very large puddle and the light was superb. We had paused for a morning snack...and where passed by a group of 6 walkers that we had seen getting reading in car park. We were to play leap frog with them....

Visited the Cat Museum in North Bridge Road. Had a nice time playing with these little furries, tho' of course my own pussy cats are still the best!
"Cat Museum" is a bit of a misnomer as it is just a place to play with cats. But I have no real problem with that.
The cats have lots of fun names, like "Jennifer Aniston", "Prince Harry", "Charlie Brown".... you get the picture. But I can't remember who's who. They also had a few kittens - rescued from a car boot. Great fun to play with!

Clearly not the most technically perfect shot I have ever done, but it always makes me smile as it reminds me of a gymnast sticking a landing. My youngest daughter was a competitive gymnast, excelling in floor exercise and balance beam, and this is such a similar pose to her dismount from the beam that I just grin. Such an ungainly-looking fellow just stickin' it!? What's not to love?? :-)

Using my Canon 430EX II Speedlite, I attempted to capture drops of water frozen in time. It's a technique that I'm working on perfecting. I'm working with only one strobe instead of multiples, but I believe that given time I will learn how to make my one work very well.
I love the different hues of green I ended up with here. The shot was made up of a old plastic green bowl from out of my grandmother's cabinet. I just filled it with water and put in under the sink. Turned the faucet on until I had a steady drip, but not too much. I really had no idea what to expect. I took many many shots before I got one that I was pleased enough with to post. I was given some helpful tips by some friendly flickr folks(say that 3 times fast) within the www.flickr.com/groups/strobist/discuss/72157611628500109/ group's discussion board. Great place for anyone who would like to explore techniques using speedlites.
