COAST SALISH TERRITORIES (Vancouver) – The Second Annual Vancouver Indigenous Media Arts Festival (VIMAF) will be showcasing the best of cutting-edge Indigitized artists and their works November 8-11 at a handful of venues on Coast Salish Territories. VIMAF brings together special guests from across Turtle Island, including Alanis Obomsawin, who will be presented with VIMAF’s Lifetime Achievement Award. She will be joined by directors and producers from Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg and BC. Their works will be shown at the West Coast’s only Native media arts festival, including a variety of mediums such as short films, music videos, documentaries, video art, animation, feature length films, interactive media, video projection, and broadcasting.
Programming at the weekend festival will celebrate a number of trailblazing artists from around Turtle Island with Gala and Conference events, interactive installations, National Film Board (NFB) feature film premieres, and evening musical programs, all meshing traditional and contemporary experiences of Indigenous Peoples. A number of prominent featured installations and films will be making their west coast debut at VIMAF, including NFB/imagineNATIVE partnership De Nort, an online interactive journey and onsite installation from the Winnipeg/Montreal ITWĒ Collective exploring life and experiences on a northern Manitoba reserve and how through forced reservation traditional memories and knowledge are being replaced.
“Presenting web-based work alongside radio, television, and cinema really show the multi-platform storytelling strategies being used to tell our stories,” said Ronnie Harris, member, VIMAF Coordinating Committee. “Using digital tools is a popular strategies for Indigenous storytellers on the West Coast.”
NFB Film premieres include Director Alanis Obomsawin’s The People of the Kattawapiskak River, returning Residential School lens We Were Children, West Coast Smokin’Fish, Every Emotion Costs, and others. VIMAF and W2 Community Media Arts Society resident media artist, Bracken Hanuse Corlett (Wuikinuxv-Klahoose), will also be projecting, Wuulhu – To Fuse Together, a series of digital installations throughout Festival home venue, W2, for the weekend. Musical offerings fuse traditional sounds with cutting edge electronic-influenced sets provided by the East Coasts’ A Tribe Called Red who are playing at Fortune Sound Club, and locals Skookum Sound System, as well as DJ’s Annashay, Vancouver DMC Finalist DJ Krisp playing VIMAF’s Indigenous Afterdark: Around The Sun.
The 2012 Festival will be headquartered at W2, with other events taking place at SFU Woodward’s Cinema, National Film Board – Pacific Region, and Fortune Sound Club. “Anchoring the Festival in Vancouver’s original settlement is fitting,” says Harris, “we are using the Woodward’s media hub which is made up of W2, SFU and the NFB, to bring a focal point for understanding what is Indigenous culture today in the centre of the city.”
VIMAF is a media arts organization founded in 2011 to re-affirm the presence of Indigenous digital production in Coast Salish Territory. VIMAF holds space for Indigenous media artists to show their works in an environment that fosters cultural discourse, critical awareness and interactivity through the independent production, stimulation, examination and illumination of Indigenous socio-political histories and current realities.
VIMAF gratefully acknowledges the support of W2 Community Media Arts Society, First People’s Cultural Council, Hastings Crossing BIA, National Film Board – Interactive Studio, and a dozen Indigenous organizations.

Thought it would look good to make a cross out of Easter eggs, I thought it kind of shows the evolution of the story about Jesus to what people associate Easter with now; chocolate eggs :)

Perception does not always equal reality. At first glance, the reality of this image is unseen. You have to look deeper to understand it is a muddy reflection in a puddle. I have always been fascinated with this idea of tricking the mind. The way we perceive something is not always the way it is... in art, and in life.

And yeah, It's a Rainy day... :)
A Rainy Song for all of You!
I took advantage of the fact that it was raining in my office... I created a conceptual art piece called Perception Precipitation, consisting of paper towels, a leaking roof, the random pattern of rain on the paper and the sound of the water hitting said paper.
This piece, though simple looking, is fraught with meaning, commenting of the random interactions of the world outside of the workplace and how it lands on the desks of minions making their lives miserable, on how Nature overcomes Man's best efforts to order his world, and on how mutability (represented by water) inserts itself randomly on the orderly lives below (represented by the careful grid of paper towels) punishing them and affecting them randomly, changing them, and slowly destroying and wearing away their carefully pressed facades that they use to face the world and hide their inner selves.
Bids for this installation start at $400,000 (Daddy needs to pay fer a brand new house!).

With a faster Sense, how different would the World look for us?
Gedankenexperiment:
What if from another Point of View Everything is stillstanding - just on another Point of the Timeline? Perhaps Time and Space are one and the same..?
The Ventilator on the Left is exaktly the same as on the Right (same Speed), but it´s taken with Flash and the sekond One is without...

This is one of the latest nonsensical catch-phrases being taught by repeatedly invoking it as fact in the new "woke" world being forced on Society.
Sometimes the phrase is quoted as “Perception is their reality”, which is closer to the truth, but it still doesn’t make someone’s perception necessarily the truth.
This phrase “Perception is reality” was used most recently on Survivor where a group of young women decided they were ‘uncomfortable’ with one of the guys who was touching them ‘inappropriately’. It was used repeatedly in the discussion at Tribal Council, where one very “woke” man said regardless of how the touching was intended, no matter how incidental, if the woman perceived it as inappropriate, then it was inappropriate because “perception is reality” and “her perception is her truth”.
Then they voted her off the island.. Why? Was it because the truth is, no one could afford to take the chance that she might turn her "perception" against them next and ruin them in real life? Or maybe because *their* perception was that she might use her status as a helpless victim to make herself invincible in the game.
“HER perception is HER truth”. Which is another way of saying we can't contradict her. It's also a way of saying each of us gets to decide what is and isn’t real (to us..), what is and isn’t inappropriate, what is and isn’t fair. We get to decide what is and isn’t the color blue, who did and didn’t break the law, and what is and isn’t “Constitutional”.
Which would explain why Nancy Pelosi, Adam Schiff et al continually claim Donald Trump is a lawless tyrant, who must be brought down by any means necessary! It's their perception and must be respected as one version of the truth. After all, there is no absolute truth. There is only the truth that we perceive. And that, my friends, is the definition of chaos.
They are living in their own reality, where whatever they perceive to be the truth, IS the truth. Well.. THEIR truth, anyway..
We have a name for people who live in their own reality. And we don’t allow them to buy guns, work in nuclear power plants, or join the military, the police or fire departments. But they seem to do very well in the fields of journalism, teaching, and politics!

We hold these perceptions to be self evident, that not all that fly are created equal......
In this exceptional amalgamation of photography, ai, and painting, Duncan Rawlinson's work claims the spotlight. Strikingly rich hues pirouette across the intricate representation of an eye, composing a vibrant symphony that rivets the observer. Each precise brush stroke, imbued with influences from both photorealism and hyperrealism, crafts an enthralling fusion of styles. The piece stands as a testament to the power of creative vision, striking a perfect balance between art and the human gaze, enticing viewers into a realm that resonates with personal depth and universal appeal. Ultimately, this creation by Rawlinson isn't merely an image of an eye—it serves as a portal into the artist's soul.
The TV image looked small and lost within the model - This is an experiment I did to see if it's possible to create an illusion and make the image look larger, and connected with it's surrounding. The text block in both images are identical in size and content. This result led to the red peripheral border hovering around the outside of the image window.
The bloody ivory damask underbust corset features 18 steel bones encased within a beautiful 14-panel silk damask shell, hand-flossed with gold thread. The corset also features a historically spaced split-front busk, "rabbit ear" lacing, floating modesty panel, and silver grommets and aglets. And blood, lots of blood!

“The Duet Filter Kit 1Peak
Our entry-level Duet Filter Kit includes a UV Filter to protect your lens and sharpen your photos, and a Polarizing Filter to cut glare and boost colours.”
uk.mygobe.com/collections/lens-filters/products/the-duet-...
The GOBE Duet Filter Kit 1Peak is listed as having the following Ingredients, Optical Glass, Aluminium, Magnalium, cotton, microfibre and paper.
The metal front and rear caps to the glass and metal filter set come with a microfibre cleaning cloth, a cotton bag and a desiccant envelope all contained in cardboard tube.
The Filters with front and end caps look work superbly well. The Microfibre Lens Cloth and the
Cotton Drawstring Bag are excellent bonus items. There are 3 levels of quality with corresponding prices. Photography involves costs and photographers expect value and performance. I went for the cheapest as I cannot afford the more expensive ones especially if my increasing clumsy digits drop and scratch the filters. There is debate about how much a filter can detract from the quality of a photograph. The simple answer is to try for yourself. For me I am desperate to protect the lens from myself and I am overjoyed to have a screw on glass protector. More debate still on the Circular Polarizing filter. The Ultra Violet filter has no visible effect on photographs taken with it, though it does reduce the amount of light entering the lens. Overall Ultra Violet filters reduce light by around one third of a stop an ʄ stop. Circular Polarizing filters are said to reduce the amount of light by anywhere 1 and 2 ʄ stops. Above the issue of loss of light Circular Polarizing filters change the image produced through the filter. Circular Polarizing filters are renowned for reducing ad even removing reflection. They also take away highlights and so reduce the brightness of reflection whilst at the same time offer some more, or deeper shadow renditions. The deep blue of polarized skies gives a signature look to the filters when used outside. With care and attention Circular Polarizing filters can bring qualities to pictures. To some perception and on certain images Circular Polarizing filters are seen as detracting from the image this includes on certain lenses such as extreme wide angles outside as the sky scenes captured can include too much difference for the Circular Polarizing filter to give the required effect. The easiest way is to try a Circular Polarizing filters and to judge the results yourself. If you remember to take some pictures with Circular Polarizing filter on and some without of people and scenes then you will always have the comparison available. The effects of a Circular Polarizing filters cannot be easily if at all created in post production. Whether to use filters and whether, or not to use a Circular Polarizing filter is great debate. If you can buy some filters and join the debate using your images and perceptions to as a great lifelong work in progress towards some excellent productions.
This is part of a series of films that I have made to record my decline in mind and body. I am fighting physical and mental challenges that are taking over me in many ways. As a user and fan of technology I am thrilled when some of the medications and therapies I am working with have virtual and online features. I have decided to record some films for me and I happy to share them with others. My aim is to see if there is anything useful to me, or to others in the recordings as they progress. My life outlook is changes day to day and through the climatic conditions of the seasons. My decline and decrepitude in Winter is longer and harder each year. Something in these records might give me hope, insight, a nudge along a path towards a better life. Currently I am failing terribly to make good life choices and to care for my worsening condition as I am not able to monitor, or to realise them.
This film was made on a good day. It was edited over several good days. The out cuts include many mistakes. On bad days filming and editing are not possible. I am very happy to share my perceptions with anyone else battling dementia, arthritis, diabetes, glandular fever, Central Nervous System Diseases & Nerve Disorders, immune deficiency and all the lovely and less than lovely allied complications. Please do send any suggestions you have to further this project. Hopefully this series of films will bring forth some good.
I am very happy to further clarify anything mentioned in this production. The information given here is the best that I can offer at the time of filming. I am always happy to receive questions, corrections, extensions and to include extra information in the comments section. Thank you in advance for any interactions you have with any of my productions.
This is a cut down, shorter and less quality than the longer 4K video on YouTube.
I wanted to share the video with Flickr users and so I cut down the original.
