If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear to man as it is, infinite.

Challenge the viewers perception of 3-D form by controlling point of view

Goli Otok (Barren Island). Also known as the 'Croatian Alcatraz' for its use as a prison and labor camp for political prisoners. Estimates say over 4000 died on the island due to the harsh weather conditions and severe punishments.

The prison closed in December 1988 and was left to ruin. Those who survived call it "living hell".

Day six. A painting by one of my incredibly gifted roommates. I noticed a detail about it for the first time the other day when I looked at it up close. Today, after glancing at the thumbnail of it, I saw something new altogether.

This is part of a project I am doing with some friends called the 30 Day Blogrimage. It's a challenge to take something on for a month, be it a daily activity, a change in our way of life, learning something new or a challenge to overcome. Each day, we'll be blogging about it and following along with each other.

Medium: Acrylic on Canvas

Date : 18/06/13

Size: 95 x 45cm

The painting is a response piece to society as it depicts the concerns about self-image and expectations to have attractive teeth. In the 21st century due to our perception of beauty, it is continuously distorted because of our expectations to how we are supposed to look.

The lines and traces are used to create a movement and patterns are creating an organic form of subject matter. The arrangements of this piece allow the viewer to have an abstracted interpretation of the concept. The simple colour palette and texture allows the viewer to dive more in depth with their contribution to this concern.

I take the bus stop as a negative place for learning. The seats that are found at the place are not comfortable; and there are no tables or desks to lean on while studying. Again, the place is characterised by a lot of uncontrolled movement of people who are always making some noise. The place is also just open to all forms of distractions. In the light of this , the bus stop becomes a negative place for learning.

This program was done in cooperation with the Indianapolis Art Center. Students from junior hi to high school would create an artwork about what they thought homelessness was, then they would spend some time with our guys, then do a new piece.
