Philadelphia Water joined other City partners and Philadelphia Eagles linebacker Connor Barwin in breaking ground on a Smith Recreation Center makeover that includes extensive green stormwater infrastructure (GSI). Green City, Clean Waters investments are being paired with green stormwater tools paid for by the non-profit Urban Roots and Barwin’s Make the World Better foundation. Together, natural stormwater systems, including two rain gardens, will manage up to 160,000 gallons of water during storms, keeping the equivalent of 3,000 rain barrels of polluted water out of the Schuylkill River.
The project is a partnership between the Office of Councilman Kenyatta Johnson, Connor Barwin’s Make the World Better foundation, Urban Roots, Philadelphia Water and the Philadelphia Parks and Recreation.
Occurring in three phases, the $2.5 million project will transform the aging recreation center and 7.5-acre site into a state-of-the art facility. In addition to the green stormwater tools detailed above, the site will include a newly renovated recreation center, basketball courts, playground, fitness trail, and a multi-purpose field surfaced with all new turf.
Smith is located at 24th and Jackson streets in South. Philadelphia. See our blog for more on the Green City, Clean Waters components: bit.ly/PWMtwb15

A lighting scheme designed by Pinniger & Partners for the three different first class club lounges at Terminal 5. We spent the whole night in here 'focusing' the whole scheme, which means changing lamps, moving furniture, aiming lights in the correct direction etc.
Worth it though as we won the Low Carbon Award at the Lighting Design Awards 2009

The women were joined by their mentors and others partners from their organizations. The Action Plans ranged from new foundations to physical fitness and disability sport programs to community-centered initiatives. Afterwards, the Emerging Leaders relaxed at Cosmic, a restaurant with pizza and pingpong.
