"Catching eel is just my part time job." said by the man in the photo. Every winter, at Hualien county, Taiwan. Glass eel will migrate to the estuary of Hualien river, the price can up to $4 USD for one larvae . Fisherman will build chalet at the coastline, waiting until dark. With headlight ,waders and a special net, these man who want to make a fortune start to "gambling" with mother nature. Some of them will make a big fortune, some of them lost his life.
The story goes that my Grandfather was an enlisted man in the US Navy in the early 1930s, stationed in San Diego. He had a part time job working at the officer's club where he noticed a pretty young woman dining with her Officer Aunt & Uncle. He asked her out but they thought he was beneath her. Eventually they did go out and fell in love. Because the family didn't approve, they "eloped" to Yuma Arizona to be married. My grandmother recalled the night driving on a corduroy road (made of wood laid across the sand dunes outside Yuma) across the desert to Yuma and how cold it was that night. Most of their children, including my Father, were born in California, and they spent most of their adult lives moving back and forth between California & Alabama. They finally settled down and lived out the rest of their years in Huntsville where two of their sons settled and lived out their lives. The other two children remained in California.

Last night was water volleyball, so today my body is in recovery. Wednesday is always sore and achey for me.
I also met Mom, Mike and Stacey for a drink in Dad's honor last night, before heading over to water volleyball.
I got a phone message I was waiting for when I got to work today. Though you see me as the mild-mannered office worker before you, in a past life I was a waitress. I still think I would be happier just waitressing part time and doing the vintage shop/artsy stuff on the side. I'm trying to figure out a way to do that eventually. But I digress. Last fall, while saving up money for our wedding, I had two part time jobs. One waitressing on the weekends, and one working as a server in the private boxes at UT Football games! I love that job- it's decent money, easy and can be a lot of fun. Sometimes I got to bring home leftover food, too.
Anyway, I got the call that they want me to come back this year!! Woohoo!

A part time job assignment, patrolling a border construction site, put me in real danger every night from the Coyotes & Pollos smuggling drugs and people right through this specific area, "Smuggler's Gulch," and you can believe it got real scary at times--lucky I had my trusty hog to get me out of there fast!!!

While attending college I had a part-time job as a cake decorator. I applied some of these skills in my metalsmithing class during college and came up with some unique items. I also remember helping a friend of mine making some flowers with some decorating tools and clay in a ceramics class. It was so much fun, although I am not sure the professor liked that I helped her with her project. I had forgotten all about those moments until I started working as a part-time decorator again. I mixed some clay the consistency of frosting the best I could, then used it just as I would on a cake. Making a wonderful ruffle affect. After using the raku process, the results were fantastic! The colors are even more beautiful in person. Wonderful golds and iridescent colors. Use it as a bud vase or a pencil holder. Not meant for any kind of food.
