In almost all of my photo columns that I write for the National Parks Traveler, I mention, at some point, of really observing your surroundings. I tell my readers to look around them to see if they can find patterns or textures that call out to them for a photo. If it catches their eye, then it's worth at least a single image.
While I was driving the dirt & gravel Howland Hill Road on the way to the Stout Grove parking lot in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, I stopped to photograph one thing, then turned around to see this scene of straight (or almost straight) young tree trunks creating parallel lines in my composition.

The Valley of Rocks is a dry valley that runs parallel to the coast about half a mile west of Lynton. It is noted for its herd of goats, its geology and its stunning views.
The valley is believed to owe its existence to a former extension of the valley of the East Lyn River which now meets the sea at Lynmouth.

I was debating whether to go grab a sunset shot yesterday, since it was so gray out, i decided to just go for it. Very glad i did, the color only lasted 5 min. what a show. This lake is about 20 min away, convenient.

I seem to be entering an abstract phase in blue...move over Picasso.
While exploring the Carmes parking structure (Toulouse, France), I was struck by the purity of the lines unfolding before me. I wanted to transcend the purely functional aspect of this space to reveal its hidden artistic dimension. By adopting a tight framing and playing with black and white, I sought to isolate these elegant curves that seem to dance in space. My intention was to transform this everyday environment into an abstract composition where geometry becomes poetry. The conversion to black and white allowed me to emphasize the contrasts and create a refined, almost graphic image that invites the viewer to rediscover the unexpected beauty of our urban infrastructure. In this quest for minimalism, I wanted to show how functional architecture can become a work of art when we take the time to look at it differently.
