underneath a bridge

The hotel at Paranal Observatory has two parallel entrance corridors that (almost) line up with the Milky Way when it’s at its maximum elevation. This makes it possible to take gorgeous shots of the Milky Way framed by the walls of the corridors.

A few years ago I took an image like that, which you can check out at the bottom of my Flickr page. While it’s an ok image, I was never 100% happy with it, as I couldn’t quite capture the very subtle glow of the starry sky reflected on the floor of the corridor.

So a few weeks ago I tried the same shot again from the other corridor, which is not as deep as the first one (I forgot to mention that the hotel is buried underground!). I very much prefer this image over the older one. What do you think?

"It was hard to tell which was reality and which was reflection..."

Creating this photo came about intuitively, albeit, several steps and debate. The artistic process with self conceptual or expression can drown me for days before I resurfacing feeling like a jigsaw puzzle placed back together.

It began with myself, standing on a fallen tree gazing through a multitude of greens, but quickly grew into the idea of an alternate reality, a parallel universe, where I find myself now standing across from my 'other' self.

The idea and or theory of a parallel universe (or more!), and there being another carbon copy of myself, is a wild and somewhat obsessive concept. Working through concepts with my art is a gratifying and exciting process that helps with my insatiable curiosities.

I discover, there within the forest, we are no different. We exist on different dimensions and yet we walk the same path and explore the same mysteries. We feel and sense in the same manner. We find ourselves when we lose ourselves, in the silence of nature. Perhaps, we have always found each other, (our other self), there, just beyond our physical senses.

There is another presence...the air parts like a tiny ripple. The trees stir just the slightest, a whisper, a breath, the leaves quiver. She appears like a ghost in the night. Feathers graze the space that surrounds her pushing her forward with such grace.

She is our messenger. She is our guide through realms and shadows. She who flies silent and stealthy, she who sees all, she who appears again and again in all forms. She who we search for, together, there in-between worlds. She is our link, our connection. She is who transports us through time and space, dreams and multiverses. She is who binds us together.

I began to wonder are we not the same? The owl, myself and my other? Our skin just a veil we slip through like the parting of a curtain. We are parallel and yet forever intersected.

It’s Friday morning, as photographer Ivan Locksmith and Barry Bullhead watch the new Bath service from Frome via Chilcompton pass through. Don’t as too many questions, the service is all rather complex and convoluted, and personally I doubt it will be a success - but what do I know as a simple creator of miniature nonsense? But I’m sure some of you will have it all worked out, so feel free to discuss. But do remember that Polbrook Gurney Colliery and The Pedant & Armchair don’t feature on any maps, either contemporary or historic. But in that rose tinted parallel universe they might, appear, but I cannot tell you which one, there being billions.

I’m sure the more observant of you will ask why Ivan doesn’t have a camera. In fact he does, this photo was taken on his tripod mounted camera by mouth operated remote control and a very fine electric cable to allow he and Barry to feature in this steam era ‘selfie’. It will never catch on of course. You’ll need to see the original high res photo to spot the cable by the way, the resolution here being too low to see, the cable being only 1/32th of an inch gauge.

And finally, over by the pub, love hearts Deidre & George wait for the pub to open after a good run on George’s throbbing tractor.

Light has something so amazing in this capture... It reminds me of Sci-fi movie... Have a nice day!

I set out to capture some buds on the side of our driveway as the rain started to fall, and this scene sort of materialised in the viewfinder and the shutter clicked...!

And in case you're wondering what it is, this is New Zealand Flax; I'll tell you about it one day!

Keep smiling, thanks for visiting my Site, and thanks for taking the time and trouble to leave such kind Comments. It's always nice to hear from you...!
