Pristimantis sp - Mindo, Ecuador
Whats by far the biggest annoyance in the field? Could it be stinging and biting insects, maybe poisonous or scratchy plants, or perhaps unpleasant weather? For me all of these pale in comparison the gravest annoyance of them all.... malfunctioning camera equipment! So when my macro lens stopped working saying I was frustrated is an understatement, especially considering my lighting system was already on the fritz. Initially I wasn't sure how to photograph little critters like this frog with what i had, so I took a more creative approach. I photographed this little Pristimantis in-situ, as I liked the strong horizontal parallel lines of the palm it was sitting on. Overall now that my camera equipment is fixed looking back I think its probably a good thing as it made me take a different type of shot than I normally do.

There was a steepness in the darkness
I wanted to cut it like a comet crash
Hit the city, where you had echoed from a flash
Made it all seem not so bad
'Cause we were parallel lines running through the whole sky
And even in the low light, we were aligned
'Cause we were parallel lines, separate the whole time
But even in the divide, you and I
Don't dare repeat this
But when I lay alone that night
I let the city see me cry
And in my weakness
I wish you hadn't closed your eyes
Crossed the city, open mine
'Cause we were parallel lines, running through the whole sky
And even in the low light, we were aligned
'Cause we were parallel lines, separate the whole time
But even in the divide, you and I
I watched you comb your hands through the light
Every detail spilled from your outline
All at once you filled my eyes
And I could see it all for the first time
'Cause we were parallel lines running through the whole sky
(The whole sky)
And even in the low light, we were aligned
(We were aligned)
'Cause we were parallel lines, separate the whole time
(Whole time)
And even in the divide, you and I

Parallel Motors mural.
Built during the 1880’s it originally served the needs of the local rural area as a Farmers & Graziers Co-op Agency, Stock & Station agency before it eventually became a Chrysler car sales outlet which offered fuel and mechanical services.
Today it still provides the local community with a huge range of services.
In the course of its life the building has witnessed the dawning of the 20th and 21st century, two world wars, the Great Depression and so many great and historical world events.
It survived the floods of 1928, 1950’s, 1990 and it took a battering on 14th November 2022 but it still survives.
Of all these events it was the catastrophic flood sometimes referred to as the inland tsunami of 2022 that almost proved to be its demise.
Yet through sheer gut busting work and effort Parallel Motors of Eugowra still stands as if in sheer defiance.
It was evident that as the flood waters began to recede that not one of the towns 700 population has escaped the devastation.
As rural communities do they all banded together to assist each other and this process is still continuing today.
In 2012 a committee was formed to establish a means of attracting tourism to the town and so it was decided to create murals that would depict local history and events.
Enter a group of dedicated and talented artists who set their skill sets to work over an 11 year time frame to create the stunning murals.
Eugowra became known as the Village of Murals.
In May 2023 an estimated 20 artists and sign writers converged on the village to restore at least three of the damages murals including the mural that adorns Parallel Motors entitled ‘Cars of Yesteryear’.
All the works are undertaken on a voluntary basis and at no cost to the community.
Slowly but surely Eugowra is coming back from the destruction and now with a number of murals already being repaired and restored the visitors are also returning.
Eugowra is situated just 36 kilometres from Forbes on The Escort Way (scene of Australia’s largest ever holdup on 16 June, 1862 Frank Gardiner and his gang of bushrangers held up an armed gold escort and stole 2,719 ounces of gold (84.56 kg) and £3,700 in cash) with a distance to Sydney being 330 kilometres .

Every person has parallel tracks. You have your personal life or your life as an artist, or whatever it is you do.

It was a beautiful day here on Bluebird Estates and the sky was so blue as you can see in this water reflection.
Parallel lines as a 10 stop filter was used and I just like how the lines flow with the bridge

In almost all of my photo columns that I write for the National Parks Traveler, I mention, at some point, of really observing your surroundings. I tell my readers to look around them to see if they can find patterns or textures that call out to them for a photo. If it catches their eye, then it's worth at least a single image.
While I was driving the dirt & gravel Howland Hill Road on the way to the Stout Grove parking lot in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, I stopped to photograph one thing, then turned around to see this scene of straight (or almost straight) young tree trunks creating parallel lines in my composition.
