Stay cables of Newport Transporter Bridge, which spans the river Usk at Newport, south Wales. The bridge is illuminated at night.

Further pursuing simple shots experimenting with negative spacing at the same time.

This was taken against a white background (used for taking some previous shots as well). Post processed into a grey-ish background to have the focus turned on to the main subject (the pencil end). And red could be quite intimidating sometimes.

“If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.”

― C.S. Lewis

“Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on; you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently He starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make any sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of – throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were being made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself.”

― C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity

(François Cheng, «Vide et plein», Éditions du Seuil, 1979, p. 52)

“A text [or the surface of a rock] can be not only analyzed, but ‘dislocated’ by a reader. Derrida calls ‘deconstruction’ this reading that seeks out, isolates elements, fragments, underlying realities, inscribed in a text from beneath appearances. A text [or the surface of a rock] has a main meaning and underlying currents. A text contains a pre-existing ‘latent text’.”

If I'm going to shoot in the day it's always nice to have an overcast moody sky. This is a blend of two bracketed exposures.

Female Northern Harrier checking me out as she flies parallel to my observation point in the coastal wetland. She is actually flying a bit below me but about 300 feet away. I put my glass on her several seconds before this. Then I saw her come into focus and I took the shot.

The 38th parallel north runs right past this tree in China Camp State Park and across San Pablo Bay. Traveling east along this line you’ll pass through Stockton, CA, Lexington, KY, then Murcia in Spain, Athens in Greece, Ozodii-Shark in Tajikistan, Shijiazhuang in China and Yamamoto in Japan. After a trip of some 19600 miles you’ll arrive at the Public Storage at 380 Merrydale Road in San Rafael, CA. Continue for another four miles or so, and you are back at this tree.
