I'm glad I had a hat. The low sun was squarely in my face up in on the embankment where, in spite of the ever-growing branches, you can see 3 of the 4 parts of this amazing waterfall. The part you can't see is on the left - up from the falls over there.

While being loaded before literally going within a train length to have it unloaded again, created the base layer if ballast.

In the canteen stores.

After a bit of a jaunt around the site I ended up back at the partial remains of one of the buildings. There I left the Skulferatu that had accompanied me on my walk, in a pipe hole in the wall of the building. As I walked away, the glass from the thousands of smashed beer bottles covering the ground nearby, glittered and sparkled in the early afternoon sunlight.

I first visited the former Fletchers Paper Mill at Greenfield in 2008. Returning this year i half expected it to be all said and done but never the less i had an inkling there would be more to see.. Things went well!

Big Meadow full of Rough Hawkbit.

Built on the site of an old whiskey distillery in 1874, this old papermill near St Andrews was one of the biggest local employers for 130 years or so. In 2008 the mill went into receivership, and was closed. Plans are afoot for St Andrews University to turn the old mill into a green energy biomass centre. Oh, there's also a rather cool little brewery that's sprung up in one of the buildings. It sits in an incredible location near the mouth of the Eden estuary.

The Windflowers in the ancient woodland at The Knapp & Papermill nature reserve. If you find a scene like this you can be sure your standing in some woods that haven't been disturbed much for about four hundred years or so. The spread of this wild flower is around two metres every one hundred years.

This paper mill opened up in the mid of the 19th century but was first in use for producing textiles. It took until WW I when production changed to paper. After WW II the factory produced more expensive types of paper like bitumen, laminated paper, glass paper and so on. The large machines inside produced upto 1200 meters of paper per hour! Strangely, the biggest profit was made by producing cement and coal bags. They operated international, delivering to countries like Spain, Korea and other foreign nations. The factory was surrounded by houses where the workmen lived with their families.

In the 1960's, woodpulp got scarse and this needed to be imported from Scandinavia. The company opened up other factories in big cities with waterconnections, to receive the barges arriving out of Scandinavia. This meant the end of the Paper Mill W.

In the 1970's the factory closed it's doors, leaving up to 1000 people unemployed. Since then the factory has been left to nature, and it shows....

My favourite nature reserve - The Knapp & Papermill looking splendid in its autumn clothes. Five minutes before I took this shot I was watching Roe Deer in the dappled shade amongst the trees while listening to Buzzards overhead.

The Turquoise Line 19 has been increased from every 15 to 12 minutes and also rerouted via Papermill.

Papermill is a new housing development on the site of the old Donside Papermill. Had First got its way many year ago this would have been the site of its global HQ and depot but opposition from nearby Tilydrone residents halted plans.

The new Papermill service goes very close to Balgownie Drive (the flats evident in the trees behind). Balgownie Drive residents have repeatedly called for a bus service to be restored after First withdrew services in 2006 but have so far fallen on deaf ears. Although the 19 goes so close to Balgownie Drive there is the small matter of the a River Don that gets in the way.

Notably although the 19 now runs via Papermill there are no bus stops on the new stretch for it to stop.

The fine paper mill "Nordic Paper" in the background.

My favourite of all the nature reserves in Worcestershire.

This is Papermill meadow and there's no sound of traffic, if it's possible to find a remote place in this county it's here, no roads just footpaths, you have to put in the effort to get here, it's surrounded by woodlands, the only man made noise I here sometimes is a chainsaw. This is the place I go to recharge and clear the mind.

Design Principle: The paper mill I work at is well over 100 years old and is a mismatch of buildings built over the years. I thought this setting would give a kind of dark and grity feeling to my B&W photo that I wanted. I took this picture early in the morning as the sun was rising above the river that this mill sits on. I wanted to play with all the different lines such as in the siding, roof angles, smoke stacks, etc... Since there is no color, I emphasized the contrast between the different structures, shadows, steam, and the sky.

Camara Settings: Canon PowerShot SX510 HS

Editing: B&W, Sepia and cropping. I also adjusted the Highlights and Shadows to give some texture to the steam and the sides of the buildings.

An edible plant in the Carrot family which has tubers that are as famous for the effort in harvesting them as the taste.

This plant has thrived in Papermill meadow over the last few weeks with ideal conditions.

This spot is one of my favourite places to visit being way off grid.

Its surrounded by tree covered hills which are part of the Suckley Hills AONB. Sometimes you hear a chain saw or tractor and the occasional dog barking, otherwise it's bird song or the wind rustling in the trees
