The Knapp and Papermill Nature Reserve

Target #1222 2769 Papermill Rd Wyomissing, PA

Bluebells and Yellow Archangel, what a combination. These last few days of mild weather have worked wonders with the Wild flowers here at The Knapp & Papermill nature reserve in Worcestershire.

This is about the only picture I took at Papermill Falls with any color, however faint.

In another month the falls will be completely in shadow at this (mid-afternoon) time of day.

Plenty of water, but nothing like the last time I was here in June......see below

It was dark and stormy late this afternoon when I stopped to sketch this. The mill closed a few years ago after more than a hundred years and is being taken apart bit by bit.

A very mellow September day at the Knapp & Papermill, with Devil's-bit Scabious growing in profusion in the foreground.

From memory, it was a Fordson but I'm open to correction here. A large slab of steel was attached to the front to act as a buffing plate whilst a slightly smaller plate was on the rear.

The tractor collected loaded timber wagons from the South Burnie weighbridge siding and led them down the bank to this yard. They would then be pushed through one of two unloaders (see the corrugated iron shed with conveyor emerging) and eventually pushed back up the bank to the TGR siding.

APPM bought a number of redundant TGR wagons of 'FF/FFS' classes (one is visible in the middle of the foreground rake) on which to store cordwood billetts brought in by road contractors - this was used to keep the chipper active if there weren't enough wagons being delivered by rail.

The last wagons bought were six KKD wagons which had a yellow panel painted over the TGR numbers and on which the APPM code was painted. The tractor is pushing 'APPM 5' which used to be KKD67.

A view of Papermill Farm nestling on a Cotswold hillside. The bare trees show that spring is yet to arrive, despite the sun highlighting the farm buildings.

The buildings are Grade ll listed.

Every time I visit my favourite nature reserve I can't resist taking

I'm glad I had a hat. The low sun was squarely in my face up in on the embankment where, in spite of the ever-growing branches, you can see 3 of the 4 parts of this amazing waterfall. The part you can't see is on the left - up from the falls over there.

While being loaded before literally going within a train length to have it unloaded again, created the base layer if ballast.

Taken with the phone on a evening walk around The Knapp & Papermill nature reserve in the heart of leafy Worcestershire.

In the canteen stores.

After a bit of a jaunt around the site I ended up back at the partial remains of one of the buildings. There I left the Skulferatu that had accompanied me on my walk, in a pipe hole in the wall of the building. As I walked away, the glass from the thousands of smashed beer bottles covering the ground nearby, glittered and sparkled in the early afternoon sunlight.

These are some of the way awesome antique typewriters you'll be able to use to craft your sweet nothings.

I first visited the former Fletchers Paper Mill at Greenfield in 2008. Returning this year i half expected it to be all said and done but never the less i had an inkling there would be more to see.. Things went well!

Big Meadow full of Rough Hawkbit.

Built on the site of an old whiskey distillery in 1874, this old papermill near St Andrews was one of the biggest local employers for 130 years or so. In 2008 the mill went into receivership, and was closed. Plans are afoot for St Andrews University to turn the old mill into a green energy biomass centre. Oh, there's also a rather cool little brewery that's sprung up in one of the buildings. It sits in an incredible location near the mouth of the Eden estuary.
