A shelf of journals, in Howard-Tilton. Color adjusted for indoor/incandescent light on film.

What a trip to have an ancient blog post photo go viral on Pinterest ten years after the fact! This beauty was included in a 2009 feature I wrote about Rag & Bone Bindery’s handmade albums and journals, AND owner Jason Thompson’s then not yet released paper craft book, Playing with Books. The woven paper basket is one of the projects and it was photographed by Karen Philippi. The hardcover book, I might add, is still available and doing well... no wonder as the other projects are equally gorgeous and besides, paper crafts are timeless! A short stress relieving activity that buggered up magnificently and did the opposite.

Hard to collapse, easy to mold the final result.

Second model of second chapter of Jun Maekawa's Genuine Origami. The model itself is not as easy as I though at first. I mean that folds are easy but it is difficult to get sharp and clear folds. The plane doesn't fly or if it does does not fly very well... as the author correctly writes. It is an exercise in box pleating and also in simmetry folding (repeat n the other side). To be honest I did not fall in love with this airplane but it really was a good exercise.

Paper: 15x15 shiny glossy origami duo paper

As you can see the patterns are just bits of paper and this is only a tiny portion of them!

The BBC was the Borrowing Book Club, a club started by me, the President was me, the rules were made and enforced by me. I was a budding dictator. The club disbanded when my club members informed me that they wanted new elections and someone else to have a turn as President. Well!! I am chagrined whenever I remember that.

Anyway, here was my 5th grade newsletter. And I don't recall either the Pink or the Red jacket.

"For heads that are disposed unto Schism and complexionally propense to innovation, are naturally indisposed for a community, nor will be ever confined unto the order or economy of one body; and therefore, when they separate from others, they knit but loosely among themselves; nor contented with a general break or dichotemy with their Church do subdivide and mince themselves almost into Atoms."

"Writing sentences is difficult whatever their subject. It is not less difficult to write sentences in a recipe than sentences in Moby-Dick. So you might as well write Moby-Dick."

Just one page out of a four page packet

Also designed for The Life of Paper, this is a six unit version of the Enigma Cube. This is the inside view of the completed unit.

Update: I've been informed by David Mitchell that he had previously designed this 6 unit Enigma Cube. I do have a different design for a 6 unit Enigma Cube unit that is folded on the diagonal, but it's less elegant than this one. I'll post that soon.

Update #2: To be clear, this 6 unit Enigma Cube is the original design of David Mitchell and is published in his book, Paper Crystals. I had planned to come up with something different for use in the play, but David has graciously given his permission for this design to be included.
