Beautiful Spring views over a Welsh valley within Snowdonia, overlooking rolling verdant hills and small villages.

Taken in Halton Conservation Area.

We absolutely did not expect to witness any Northern Lights when travelling to Iceland last Saturday, so all the greater was our surprise when we stepped out of the camper and saw this awesome aurora display over Akureyri and its beautiful fjord in North Iceland

Actually, I'm not a big fan of panoramas. Somehow they only seem right when they are printed in large format and hanging on the wall (maybe that will give someone an idea :-)) But when I watched the sunset here in front of the church of St. Coloman in the Allgäu alps, I couldn't resist. First, as I mentioned elsewhere, the sunset wasn't in the "right" spot, and second, I didn't want just one or two of the peaks in the background, I wanted to show as much of the mountain range as possible. This is the result. And even though the sun stubbornly stayed hidden behind the band of clouds, I'm quite happy with the end result.

Of course, there is also a classic shot from the familiar perspective, but I'll save that for a later point in time.

This is another impression from our journey criss-crossing Iceland's Westfjords, this image showing the "root" of a fjord where the road turns around. Every fjord has got its own style of mountain range and I guess that locals could recognise which fjord they are in just from having a look at thos emountains.

Getting away from the ocean to the mountains, the Blue Mountains in particular, with this pic. Bit of trivia for you, I used to live up the Blue Mountains, and belong to the local bush fire brigade, way back in the early 80's, a little place named Warrimoo.

The Blue Mountains cover around 11,400 square kms west of Sydney with elevations up to 1,100m. They are a vast sandstone plateau carved by deep valleys and dramatic cliffs, covered in eucalypt forests that give the region its signature blue haze & name. They boast waterfalls, slot canyons, rainforests & heathlands. It is a paradise for bushwalkers boasting 250 trails ranging from short easy walks to tough multi-day hikes. A mate & I did the Lockleys Pilon hike a couple of years back and the views of the Grose Valley, Mount Hay and Eucalypt rainforests were so inspiring. Might have to dig some of those pics out.

This view here is from Boars Head looking out across Narrow Neck and the Megalong Valley.

Now that's sorted it's time to go workout. Does anyone know how many calories you need to burn off to compensate for 2 large dark cholate eggs & 1 large honeycomb choc bunny.

Speaking of which ..... what type of easter bunny eater are you? I'm an Ear Assassin.

An Ear Assassin - eats the ears first without mercy, no bunny will hear you coming.

The Smasher - whacks the entire bunny to bits and eats it in blissful chocolate chaos.

The Slow Dismantler - nibbles the limbs and features one by one with surgical chaos. The eyes would have to be last I reckon.

The Existential Licker - softens the bunny up by licking it first to gain its trust before biting.

Or is there another secret way of devouring them?

Thanks kindly for any likes/comments, they are always appreciated.

Storvatnet on the Lofoten islands in deep winter. I found those strangely folded fresh ice textures in the foreground to be most peculiar and interesting. One could almost watch the formation of the ice sheet.

This is a low tide fjord scenario from Iceland's Westfjords. I found it absolutely fascinating how the power lines were traced to cross the landscape using all kinds of gimmicks to get the ppwer poles across the water and beyond.

Another photo from the series "The other Liguria". Because Liguria is not only the one with the sea, beaches and umbrellas. The interesting thing is that sea, beaches and umbrellas are only 13 kilometers from where I took the picture.

Un'altra foto della serie "The other Liguria". Perché la Liguria non è solo quella con il mare, le spiagge e gli ombrelloni. La cosa interessante è che mare, spiagge e ombrelloni sono solo a 13 chilometri da dove ho scattato la foto.

"Controlled burns" are done to remove diseased plants, excessive dry brush that might be tinder for a wildfire, invasive species, or for other control reasons.

Sometimes, they lose "control". A horrible example is a controlled burn in Michigan several years ago, which was done to promote the growth of Jack Pine trees, a necessity to encourage the nesting of endangered Kirtland Warblers. A windstorm spread the fire to the devastation of almost an entire county of Michigan.

This picture shows the product of a controlled burn at Merritt Island NWR. New growth was evident throughout the area, which was probably the desired result, but a very large area was burned off. No one could say if that was the intent.

Angels Landing, is a 454 m tall rock formation in Zion National Park in southwestern Utah, United States. A renowned trail cut into solid rock in 1926 leads to the top of Angels Landing and provides panoramic views of Zion Canyon. The trail to Angels Landing is 4.0 km long with an approximate 460 m elevation gain. The last half-mile of the trail is strenuous and lined with numerous sharp drop-offs and narrow paths. Chains to grip are provided for portions of the last half-mile to the top at 1760 m.

As of 2024, 18 deaths have been confirmed at or near Angels Landing. Since 2022 a permit is needed to climb it up.

Quando sono stato qui, avevo già il presentimento che sarebbe stato l'ultimo giro in montagna per un pò di tempo.

Ne è valsa la pena, un pieno di bellezza prima di un periodo di ricordi e fotografie passate.

An exaggerated day

When I was here, I already had the feeling that it was going to be the last hike in the mountains for some time.

It was worth it, full of beauty before more weeks full only of past memories and photographs.
