I was utterly amazed at noticing this homestead and farm in Southeast Iceland, being situated right in front of a mighty glacier tongue descending from Breiðamerkurjökull glacier if my map orientation is right. Anyway, to choose such location for your farm speaks of guts and bravery :)
Wonderful light moods, gorgeous landscapes and that unbeatable feeling of freedom which lasted throughout our Iceland "road movie", but got culled the very moment we got back on a plane ...
The vast Siglufjordur fjord in North Iceland and the city of the same name on the opposite shore on a day of Spring.
This guy was frolicking around the buffs and edges of Godafoss and taking selfies in life-threatening manner and this endeavour brought him into the focus of my camera several times to the extent that I was really tempted to use my supernatural powers ... ;) :p
Reine, the cold and distant Lofoten beauty, letting down her veil in the wee hours of this beautiful winter night. Nowadays a well connected tourist destination, it once was so remote and only inhabited by hardy cod fishermen.
Driving into the highly active volcanic area of Myvatn during a relapse into winter made our arrival all the more dramatic. I had to think of a Song of Ice and Fire immediately :)
Stitched panorama of several shots of mine taken at Eggum beach on the Lofoten islands on a merciless day of winter.
I have two reasons for the titel of this photograph.
First it is representing the goodbye from Porto Palafita da Carrasqueira and it's at the same time my favourite photo of the series. And second is this statement applying to a beautiful sunset as well. The real dramatic is often happening after the sun had already set.
As deeper it sinks as more red and purple tones are mixing in the orange and yellow at the sky. And only shortly before the light is fading away the spectacle of the colours is most beautifully.
So it's worth to be patient and to persevere a bit longer.

Of a small settlement to the Ee in the 10th century it developed into an important city, where trade, industry and fishery thrived. By growing prosperity and look to the commonalty of Zierikzee on March 11th 1248 municipal right was granted king. After the medieval flowering period calamity emergency with fires, shipping disasters, epidemics and floods followed.
The 17th century characterised himself by second flowering of the trade and fishery. Then the number of inhabitants stepped very drastic in the course of the 18th century stagnation and decreased. The large industrial developments went to Zierikzee past for the greater part. In contrast to other cities old buildings remained saved. The wealth to monuments is mainly considered as a precious possession and in 1970s has been discovered by the tourists.
Nowadays Zierikzee is, with wide 10,000 inhabitants, the administrative seat of the new and has in this a centre function. In the historical town centre with a lot of shops and sociable pavements it is for both the tourist and inhabitant well stays.
South Iceland and its wild mix of rugged landscapes and farms in between. Just leaving the main road and following one of these gravel roads brings so many new vistas and insights ... a wonderful road movie :)
I liked this Scottish loch in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park a lot, Beautiful mountains as backdrop and an interesting, rocky shoreline, decent weather on a late summer day ... what's not to like?! :)
Dezavu, a house overlooking the daily show of nature, decorated with a beautiful bougainvillea. Olympus village, Karpathos island, Greece.
We had all these lovely night walks while being in Strasbourg. The city has wonderful illumination and a nightly stroll along the river or the canals is definitely a nice treat.

Uttakleiv beach on the Lofoten islands experiencing kind of four seasons in the course of ten minutes ...
boats on the Lofoten islands passing the winter. Fishing boats are being used daily especially in winter, to catch cod, but these leasure boats are waiting for the easier season :)
A very very special moment we experienced while standing on this plane watching this sun dog forming and turning the whole winter landscape into something utterly magical.
Eggum beach (well, the parking lot and fortress) on the Norwegian Lofoten islands in deep winter. It displays a different kind of beauty and moodiness which as a photographer I really love.
Happy Monochrome Monday!
Ullsfjorden fjord near Jaegervatnet after fresh snow fall. Driving these roads with a little car is quite a fun challenge :D
This morning we woke up in Salzburg with absolutely fab winter weather and after a delightful breakfast in one of those historic bakeries/cafes we took a long stroll up the Kapuzinerberg hill and all around gazing down on Salzburg and enjoying very atmospheric views like here onto Hohensalzburg Castle.
Panoramic views of Eggum beach on the Lofoten islands in deep winter and with quite a weather front passing over it. Watching it was very impressive.
The surprising panoramic views that opened to our eyes when looking back on our journey towards Snaefellsjokull volcano. The gaze back offers glorious views over Snaefellsnes Penninsula and its Atlantic shores highlighting the majestic mountain range along the penninsula's backbone.
LE of the sea strait that separates several Lofoten islands on the way towards Reine with one of the Reine bridges in the distance.
Deja vu all over again, a blue-white house... ...Wait! There is also vibrant yellow on the wall, so there is some interest - apart from the "boring" view... Olympus village, Karpathos island, Greece.
Northwest Iceland and its amazing coastline, here as seen from Vatnsnes peninsula. A bit to the left sits Hvitserkur, the beast guarding this coast. But I found this stretch here every bit as interesting as the much photographed Hvitserkur seastack itself.
A beautiful sunset iwas in the making as we approached Skaftafell mountain range on the evening of our road trip's third day.
Extreme shingle beach at Seven Sisters near Newhaven, which makes it really tough to walk, but wonderful to listen for there are those rolling sounds of the Sea which are lulling and invigorating at the same time.
Extending out dramatically over Niagara Gorge, the architectural wonder of the Niagara Falls USA Prospect Point Observation Tower provides unobstructed views of the wild cascades of Niagara Falls, as well as the raging whitewater below.
The tower provides the only panoramic view of all three Niagara Falls. Bird watchers love it because they can spot peregrine falcons, bald eagles and the many different gull species present in the Niagara Gorge.
"Over all of the hills
Peace comes anew,
The woodland stills
All through;
The birds make no sound on the bough.
Wait a while,
Soon now
Peace comes to you."
- Goethe - Wanderer's Nightsong -
Somehow, this nightfall scene from Kirkjufellsfoss in West Iceland made me remember instantly that wonderful poem by Goethe, only that so far I have not found any translation into English that would do it justice. :(

Eyjafjallajokull mountain range in South Iceland looks beautiful in any season and weather and from any point of view, that's for certain. But I enjoyed this view from a secondary road, which offered a different POV, even more. This was immediately before a huge rain front got the better of both mountains and us :)

na stazi po grebenu Biokova od Šćirovca (1619 m) prema Svetom Iliji (1642 m) / on the path along the ridge of Biokovo from Šćirovac (1619 m) to Sveti Ilija (1642 m)
This beautiful bay on the Lofoten islands with its amazing natural textures, rocks and pebbles looks completely transformed in white winter. This is a stitched panorama of six single shots.
A wonderful vista we enjoyed on our journey between Laugar and Siglufjordur when standing on the high road and gazing down towards the mighty fjord. With Spring weather being crisp and clear and a bright sun illuminating the snow-capped mountains my mood was on an absolute high :)
When we got to Jokulsarlon glacier lagoon during our round trip around Iceland this year in May, the whole place was teaming with beautiful Eider ducks which had returned from their hibernating grounds in less Northern regions. These birds appeared to be so very much in their natural element while we were still shivering of cold :)

evening mood on the isle of Harris, Outer Hebrides, where the light showcases the peculiar landscape of those raggedly beautiful islands.
Eggum beach on the Norwegian Lofoten islands on a winter day as moody as they come. I can't explain why I feel so attracted to these places and that kind of mood, but it feels like dwelling in a special place where few follow and nobody disturbs ...
Belvedere Pfingstberg is a beautiful palace located in Potsdam, Germany. Built in the 19th century, it features stunning architecture and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.
