Far too many people fail to realize how much fun it can be to shop for furniture. In many cases, this is because they simply lack some fundamental information about how to do it skillfully and in a cost-effective way. By reading the article below, it is possible for everyone to conquer their fear of furniture buying and snag some real deals.
When you arrange your furniture, make sure that you do not place it too close to any heat sources. This can damage the material and shorten the life of these items. You should avoid placing furniture near air conditioning units as well, because the extreme cold can have a damaging effect on the material.
Keep the future location of any piece of furniture in mind when shopping. This factor should affect the fabric colors you choose. Light color fabrics are ideal for bedrooms, foyers and even formal living rooms. On the other hand, any piece of furniture likely to be used frequently is better served with darker colors.
Consider your pet situation when shopping for furniture. A home without free-roaming pets that is going to stay that way is safer for a lot more furniture. If you do have uncaged pets or think you might in the future, be a lot more picky in what pieces of furniture you buy.
Watch out for furniture that is poorly made. To ensure that you are purchasing a sofa that will withstand the punishment your family can do to your sofa turn the sofa upside down and look at the structure of the sofa. Poorly made furniture will be made using 1x1's instead of 2x2.
Always check the springs of the furniture you want to buy. It is important to choose a chair or a sofa that feels comfortable to you. If you like firm chairs and sofas, make sure the springs are coiled properly and do not hesitate to replace them regularly to keep your furniture comfortable.
Before buying any furniture online, make sure that you read the reviews of the retailer online. There are many people out there that are more than willing to leave reviews after having good or bad experiences. Use this to your advantage when you are looking for a place to buy furniture from.
When determining your budget for furniture, consider the expected lifespan of the piece. Light aluminum frames or particleboard pieces are likely far lower in price, but also lower in life expectancy. Heavy wood, solid furniture lasts a lot longer, albeit at a higher initial investment. How long you plan to be in a home can factor in too.
Size needs to be an important factor when it comes to figuring out which furniture to purchase. You can see the most beautiful sofa or table, but if it does not fit in your home, it may not be wise to get it. You may want to measure the area where you plan to put the furniture prior to heading to the store.
If you need to purchase furniture for your entire house, ask to see if your furniture store offers a multi purchase discount plan. One benefit to shopping at one store for all of your furniture is that you can mix and match and see if the furniture looks good together.
When you shop for upholstery and fabric furniture, there are various types and textures to consider. Most fall into three popular groups: synthetic, organic, and blended fibers. Synthetic fibers includes microfiber and acrylic, organic fibers includes cotton duck, silk and wool, and blended fibers combine both synthetic and organic fibers.
The problem many people have with shopping for furniture is just a simple lack of knowledge about how it can be done well and without a lot of hassle. Fortunately, the article above has provided some great information to help demystify the concept. Review the tips as necessary and have a blast furnishing your home to suit your unique tastes. packingandunpackingsydney.com.au/moving-box/
Yesterday I read about a program that uses isight cameras to create time lapse videos called Gawker. I set my macbook up to make a video of some packing we did today. I plan on setting it up on Friday, when we move everything into the truck.
My packing schedule for the day:
11:30am - wake up
11:45am - watch Jonathan Ross on demand
13:00pm - pack two more boxes, run out of parcel tape and realise only one box left
13:30pm - drink tea, go on a box begging hunt around the village (remarkably successful - car full of empty boxes!)
14:30 - get home, decide to make lunch and drink more tea.
All I can currently think about is what an epic fort I could make out of all those boxes!

The tree is bare, the lights are rolled up, the ornaments are going into their packing boxes for their hibernation until next December. It was a fantastic holiday season.

Packing my main camera and lens off to be dealt with by Fixation in Vauxhall. Haven't really been using my SLR for about a month now. It took some really heavy use before I stopped using it (shooting a wedding in a torrential downpour with no real protection as I had to forgo trying to hold an umbrella whilst shooting) and this is due a service. My reliable workhorse of a prime lens however (EF35mm f/1.4L USM) suffered whilst out at the previously mentioned wedding, having unfortunately succumbed to the dance floor during a lens change. Only this last drop was worse than the first time round a few years back as it wasn't on carpet; cue my horror as the focusing switch comes clean off, held to the lens only by means of soldered wires, and severe chromatic aberration has become the norm as a direct consequence!
This was our xmas card the year we moved from Richmond to Charlottesville during the holidays.
Max has a non-retracting inner eyelid condition that makes her eyes red like you see here. It doesn't hurt her, but it does look odd.

We went to Sumner late in the afternoon it had been a lovely hot sunny day but things changed fast a strong wind picked up and the sand was blowing along the beach with force.. it really hurt and you had to put your back to it! January 5,2014 Sumner Christchurch New Zealand.
Sumner was badly affected by the earthquakes. www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOE6NSc4rOo
Sumner is nestled in a coastal valley separated from the adjacent city suburbs by rugged volcanic hill ridges that end in cliffs that descend to the sea shore in places. Sumner Bay is the first bay on the northern side of Banks Peninsula and faces Pegasus Bay and the Pacific Ocean.
Because of its ocean exposure, a high surf can form in some swell conditions. The beach is gently sloping, with fine grey sand. It is a popular surf beach for these reasons.
Sand dunes have filled the river valley behind the beach. This has made housing construction relatively easy, although flooding at the head of the valley has been a problem in the past due to the reverse slope caused by the sand dunes filling the front of the valley. This has been addressed by a flood drain.
The rocky volcanic outcrop of Cave Rock dominates the beach. Until the mid-1860s, the feature was known as Cass Rock, after the surveyor Thomas Cass.[9] There are other rocky outcrops in the area and the volcanic nature of the geology is readily apparent from several of the exposed cliffs around the valley.
A sea wall and wide esplanade have been built along the length of the beach to prevent coastal erosion.

Project 365: Day 176 (July 26, 2010)
I am terrible at packing light. Really, 3 pairs of a shoes for a conference? Yes, I need that. But actually, it was a Gordon Conference, which was more like Tribology Summer Camp than a conference. I ended up hitting up an Old Navy on day 3 and scoring 2 pairs of jeans to wear with flip flops for the rest of the week. Unfortunately, since all the work presented a Gordon Conference is unpublished, they are anti-photography, which is why I missed two days (lack of time and opportunity). This was especially the case at poster sessions which was unfortunately since I would have liked to have gotten a picture of the theoretical physicist from Italy I was trying to flirt with on the last night at the poster session. He had a girlfriend, but I know he was still checking me out in my new Old Navy jeans (which was located at 10 Stephen King Drive in Augusta, ME by the way...awesome!)
Here are a few tips and tricks to make your moving endeavors a breeze!
PACKING
Heavy and Light: Think opposites are alike, heavy goes with light! Pack those heavier items into your smaller boxes and light items into your bigger boxes. No wasted weight!
Plates and Records: Don't make the mistake of #packing your precious plates and records flat and helpless. Instead, pack the on edge, vertically.
Most Important Amongst Shipping Supplies: Anything that is valuable, sentimental, or worthy enough to shed a tear if lost, stolen, or damaged, keep those bad boys right next to you in your vehicle. If they do happen to ride along with the other moving items, just make sure to put some extra cushion, like a blanket or sheets, in between.
No Screwed Bulbs: Prior to packing any lamps, make sure those bulbs are unscrewed and carefully packed separately.
Don't Let that Fridge Go Sour!: After thoroughly cleaning out and wiping down the refrigerated, keep the inside smelling nice and fresh by adding a handful of fresh coffee, baking soda, or charcoal into nylon stockings or socks. Place this deodorizer in the interior of the fridge for lasting freshness.
Protect your Plants: Take care of your plants during the move by keeping the foliage away from the windows, as this can scorch the leaves as they rest there.
TRACKING YOUR MOVE
Note Taking: Jot down your shipment registration number and keep it handy in the instance that you may need to call your mover over shipment inquiries.
Don't Toss that Phone Book: Keep your #phonebook as you may need to call residents and businesses from your former area of residents.
PREP THE FAMILY FOR THE BIG MOVE
Get the Kids Involved: In their rooms, the children can write the names and new address on cartons. This will familiarize them with their new street and city.
Relax the Pets: Have a trusted associate watch your pets during moving day. There's no need to have them around all of the hoopla.
MOVING DAY ADVICE
Let's have a great moving day by checking off these essentials!
Prepare the Bed: Place sheets and towels in a dresser draw to avoid frantically searching for them on your first night.
Give Your Number Out: Don't let the van foreman depart without giving your contact to him, along with an alternate phone number in case you are unable to be reached.
Basic Necessities: At your new home, you will most likely need a few basic items like toilet paper and other toiletries, telephone, snacks, coffee (and pot), soap, flashlight, screwdriver, pliers, can opener, paper plates, cups, utensils, a few pans, paper towels, and cleaning supplies. Box these items together. Ask your foreman to pack the items last for easy locating and access of them upon arrival.
Give the Computer a Rest: Let your computer get used to the "climate" of your new home before plugging it in.
Take Delight: Let the professionals do what they do best and as you relax. #Moving is associated with new adventures and friends along the way. Get some good shut-eye before the pickup and delivery days!
Pallets of USDA Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) commodities wait on the Houston Food Bank commodity warehouse shelves for movement to packing lines or delivery to food pantries; pallets in the aisles are loaded with disaster assistance packages (those with orange wrapping have USDA Foods in them), and are ready for delivery or distribution to those in need, in Houston, TX, on September 22, 2017.
Houston Food Bank Operations Associate Director Marly Maskill provided the following information; in general, the food bank usually receives approximately 10 trucks per day and distributes approximately 230,000 meals per day; in response to Hurricane Harvey, the food bank has been receiving approximately 30 trucks per day and distributing approximately 500,000 meals per day.
Maskill continues, “FY17 we received over 23.7M lbs of USDA Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) commodities. Their products are mostly shelf stable commodity items, but also frozen meat, produce, eggs & cheese. We distribute this product to our agencies directly & in our backpacks & share your holiday boxes. In response to Harvey, the USDA allowed us to use the TEFAP product we already had in inventory to support disaster relief. Any client who is not on disaster SNAP is eligible to receive this product. The USDA has been actively communicating & working with us to make sure our needs have been met. They've also committed to replenishing the product that is distributed for disaster response so our clients who generally receive this product don't have to go without.”
USDA Foods include The FNS Food Distribution Programs' mission is to strengthen the Nation's nutrition safety net by providing food and nutrition assistance to school children and families and emergency food assistance programs; and support American agriculture by distributing high quality, 100% American-grown USDA Foods.
The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) is a Federal program that helps supplement the diets of low-income Americans, including elderly people, by providing them with emergency food and nutrition assistance at no cost.
